Blaithwaite House: Campfield

General

  • Family-friendly site with stunning views across Solway Firth
  • A 10-minute drive from the Lake District and 20 from the coast
  • Shops and restaurants five miles away in Wigton

Rural rambles without having to leave base – bag a berth at Blaithwaite House, 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Wigton, for a taste of life on a Cumbria country estate.

And not just any old country estate – this one stretches for a generous 200 acres, bringing with it 50 acres of woodland to frolic in, and a walking trail that covers over two miles (Yes, it’s a big place, so best be picking up a map before striding forth.) Enjoyed that warm up? More walks, bike rides and other outdoorsy pursuits are 10 minutes’ drive away in the Lake District National Park or 20 minutes away on the Solway coast.

Time to catch your breath? Settle in on site for splendid views over the Solway Firth or to cook up something tasty at the barbecue and firepit area (shop ahead and you can stash your supplies in the site’s fridges and freezer). If cooking doesn’t appeal, decamp to a local pub – two such establishments an easy five-minute drive away serve up homemade food.

Still got energy to burn? Play areas, a football field and a playing field offer plenty of space to let off steam. If you’ve got a gaggle of buddies on hand, book ahead to mercilessly hunt them down with a game of laser tag… but whatever you get up to, don’t forget to give a cheery wave to Snowy the goat and her chicken pals.

The site may be sizeable, but facilities aren’t far-flung – washing-up areas and individual toilets and showers are in the pitches field and supplied with hot water from the eco-friendly biomass boilers.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings must not be for more than 21 consecutive nights.

The site is also a wedding venue: the rose garden, summerhouse and miniature golf are not available to camping guests when a wedding is held.

We had such a lovely stay at blaithwaite House, the staff were lovely and very welcoming. Food in the cafe was lovely and they have a little shop (inside cafe) with little essentials that was good so we didn't have to drive 20 mins for toothpaste (we lost ours lol). The kids loved the play parks one of them was right next to our tent so they could just run off and play. We met the goat and the chickens and walked around the grounds which is lovely. We enjoyed playing crazy gold and chess! The toilets and showers are very clean and with toilet roll incase your unsure about needing your own. They have fridges next to the shower blocks for any food that needs it. There is plenty of space to park which was good. Overall we had a really good time we going to return next year. Thank you blaithwate house 😊

Lovely big open spaces. The lady on reception came out and walked us to our pitch, showing us things on the way. Liked the gravel car routes and the fact we could park our car(s) next to our tent.

I thought the 11 pm 'lights out' time was good. Very peaceful site.

Loved that we could take our own little firepit/barbeques (as long as they were on legs).

    Had a very happy week.

    Disliked:

Not really a 'dislike' as such, but we felt that there could have been shower blocks in the field we were in, more shower blocks needed during high season.
But that's all. We would definitely go back again.
