Pitches with countryside views

General

  • Family-friendly site with stunning views across Solway Firth
  • A 10-minute drive from the Lake District and 20 from the coast
  • Shops and restaurants five miles away in Wigton

Rural rambles without having to leave base – bag a berth at Blaithwaite House, 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Wigton, for a taste of life on a Cumbria country estate.

And not just any old country estate – this one stretches for a generous 200 acres, bringing with it 50 acres of woodland to frolic in, and a walking trail that covers over two miles (Yes, it’s a big place, so best be picking up a map before striding forth.) Enjoyed that warm up? More walks, bike rides and other outdoorsy pursuits are 10 minutes’ drive away in the Lake District National Park or 20 minutes away on the Solway coast.

Time to catch your breath? Settle in on site for splendid views over the Solway Firth or to cook up something tasty at the barbecue and firepit area (shop ahead and you can stash your supplies in the site’s fridges and freezer). If cooking doesn’t appeal, decamp to a local pub – two such establishments an easy five-minute drive away serve up homemade food.

Still got energy to burn? Play areas, a football field and a playing field offer plenty of space to let off steam. If you’ve got a gaggle of buddies on hand, book ahead to mercilessly hunt them down with a game of laser tag… but whatever you get up to, don’t forget to give a cheery wave to Snowy the goat and her chicken pals.

The site may be sizeable, but facilities aren’t far-flung – washing-up areas and individual toilets and showers are in the pitches field and supplied with hot water from the eco-friendly biomass boilers.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings must not be for more than 21 consecutive nights.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site is also a wedding venue: the rose garden, summerhouse and miniature golf are not available to camping guests when a wedding is held.

Heated toilet facilities. Beautiful grounds. Kids enjoyed the mini-golf. Gorgeous bistro restaurant available as no weddings taking place. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Motorhome pitch allocated to us had no pebbles on the car area next to it, so a bit muddy to walk between the car and the motor home.

    Super friendly and helpful staff.
Fire pits and logs for rent/sale, you can bring your own which is much cheaper. One box of logs and a fire pit for two nights was £20.
Mix of units, tents, campers, caravans, electric and non-electric.
Toilets/showers are exceptional, clean, hot powerful showers with no button to press, yay🤗🤗
Great for children with a super adventure playground, football or games field etc
Rural, lovely night skies and great for accessing the north lakes or north penines.

    Disliked:

None....the only criticism could be that when it is busy, the bathroom facilities would be stretched as the toilets and showers are combined. This wasn’t an issue whilst we were there but it was quieter than normal as to be expected. The cleanliness and hand sanitizers were all excellent for all the shared facilities.

    Everything!
    - The whole estate is beautifully kept, full of gorgeous views with lots of thoughtful touches throughout.
    - It's a very easygoing campsite and you're left to your own devices
    - The toilets were immaculately clean, very warm and the showers were great. They were in little beach huts that were small but perfectly formed.
    - Ice cream van visits the site at weekends
    - Snowy the goat, the chickens, the sandpit and the big swing were family favourites
    - Lots of beautiful countryside walks

    Disliked:

It's very hard to find anything we actually disliked!
    - Only 6 toilets on our field which might lead to queuing if it was any busier but they're so beautiful it's hard to fault them!
    - Camping pitches were very affordable but firepits and wood could make it pretty pricey.

What i liked when we Pitched in Blaithwaite House was that the staff was very accommodating, they provided us everything we needed for our overnight stay. Since the facilities were being cleaned 5times a day, meaning it is Covid19 secure.
There was also a Pop up for breakfast and/or Pizza.

Lovely site set in lovely grounds, plenty for younger children to do and is an ideal base to explore the lake district which is 20 mins away or the coastal towns of Silloth, Allonby and Maryport. Facilities are second to none, the showers are better than in my house! Liz`s Country Kitchen visits on a regular basis and on selected dates provides Pizzas, street food or Breakfasts. The Ice cream van even came.
I would highly recommend this site. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
