Grass area for tents: flat land with ample space for parking next to your tent

General

  • Peaceful Lake District park near Scafell Peak and Wastwater
  • Local pub within two minutes' walk
  • Well-equipped play area, picnic tables and woodland area

Holy moly. You'll likely already be sold with the Lake District location of welcoming Church Stile Farm Holiday Park, in the midst of superbly scenic Wasdale with close-by climbing and kayaking on Scafell Pike and Wastwater.

But a hard day clambering and kayaking is always best followed by a fine ale and supper at a local watering hole, so you'll likely be sold all the more with Church Stile’s locale only two minutes’ walk from the two pubs and hotel of local hamlet Nether Wasdale. Praise be.

All is praiseworthy on site too: Church Stile Farm Holiday Park covers about seven acres of a spacious oak woodland and wildlife-laden setting, with venerable views of the Wasdale valley and the Screes mountains range.

Facilities are kept to high standards and include free hot showers in separate ladies’ and gents’ washrooms, free hairdryers (for both ladies and gents, hurrah), and a disabled/family room with baby changing unit. The laundry room has hot and cold drink vending machines, a free freezer for ice blocks, and a coin-operated washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.

To keep the kids happy when they’re not sorting out the laundry, there’s a well-equipped play area with swings and climbing frames, a grass area for ball games, and a woodland area adjacent to the site for wildlife spotting and walks. Picnic tables are dotted around the park and barbecues/firepits are available to hire (pick up essentials for the barbie in the shop and some wood from the Church Stile team).

everything about this site was great! lovely quiet and a very respectful site, lots of space between pitches, even though the Site was FULL everyone abided by rules, for the quiet periods.
2 Pubs for great food within 5 mins of site, lots of history and beauty around this area.
spacious showers and clean toilets along with ample pot wash area and a well stocked cafe and shop, that sells pretty much anything! Wifi only available at the shop, no phone or tv signal available on pitches, so very peaceful, good launderette available also

    Disliked:

could do with a few more showers especially in the mens! it is also a pity the static caravans are nearer to the toilet/shower blocks than the tents!! as its the canvass campers that's more in need of the amenities!

great campsite with all the amenities required. The Toilet/shower rooms were sparkling clean.
We forgot an essential bit of kit ( gas bottle for our stove) so to be able to get hot food for breakfast from the site shop was a blessing,
    Will definitely stay again.

    Lovely site.
You getno internet or phone coverage (WiFi available if you sit in cafe)
    No tv picture
But you know what? That is the best thing about this place, instead of being glued to our phones we got out there and enjoyed the stunning surroundings.
That is what motorhoming is all about.
We will definitely be returning in Aug

    Disliked:

The only downside I can think of is if it is a wet day all you can do is play board games. Or like us when it’s raining watch a box set of DVDs

This Campsite is in a beautiful Valley in Nether Wasdale, very close to the southern end of Wast Water. The views are great!

We picked this Campsite as it is around a 10 minute drive to the Wasdale Head National Trust Car Park for our walk up Scafell Pike, the short drive came in handy after our 7 hour hike!!

We had a Electric Grass Tent Pitch, which was a couple of minutes walk back to the Shower/Toilet and Pot washing block which you pass on the way into the campsite. The facilities were clean, and the showers were free and hot (can't beat that!) There is also a small Children's play area!

For those bothered about phone signal, there is a WiFi Spot at the Shop for your camping essentials at the entrance to the campsite.

The owners were friendly and accommodating of our late arrival! and the campsite was nice and quiet!

Our first holiday without our kids. Stopped in our own tent with electric hookup. The campsite was perfect, nice clean and warm toilet block and kitchen washing up area. There was a small children's play area for those with children. The views were amazing. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There is a lovely onsite shop that sells camping essentials, groceries and ice cream. They sell frozen lamb and we can highly recommend the 'herdy burgers'. They were so nice we bought a packet home. The weather wasn't brilliant but that did not ruin our stay and the site was flat and the shower area was warm which meant we could warm up. We will definitely be going again. We loved the fact that there was no mobile signal and that in order to get wifi you had to go to reception as this helped us escape. There are 2 local pubs within a 2 minute flat walk which are owned by the same landlord and serve good food (you will need to book though). There were some families with children but not sure if there were highchairs if that's what you needed. Overall a wonderful campsite.

A well kept camp site with friendly staff.
Toilet and shower block were nicely kept and cleaned regularly. Shower cubicles are a fab size and nice and modern. Hairdryer is the best I've used at any campsite!
Farm shop has many essentials and not too badly priced for a convenience store.
Two pubs situated just outside of the sites entrance, with one doing take away pizza's which were bloody delish!! We'll be back again :)

    Disliked:

There is only wifi at the farm shop, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as it was great to avoid temptation of social media!

Local attractions

Whether you’re climbing, canoeing or just ambling gently around with picnic in backpack, the Wasdale valley is a pretty perfect place for a Lake District hol.

The valley is over 10 miles long if you fancy a full day’s historic hike, starting from the village of Wasdale Head, the start of the Three Peaks Challenge and the former home of Cumbrian pub landlord Will Ritson, whose tall tales led to the still going strong Biggest Liar Competition. One of the tiniest churches in the land, St Olaf’s, is at Wasdale in its ‘Viking fields’: Wasdale was originally settled by Norse farmers and the beams in the church are rumoured to be from Viking longships.

Climbers can get to Scafell Pike and Great Gable from Wasdale Head, but walkers can continue along the valley length down to the village of Gosforth, which has the biggest Viking Cross in England at the Grade I-listed St Mary’s Church.

Finally, fancy the beach? The Cumbrian coast at Seascale is seven miles from Church Stile Farm (walkable, you might reckon), with miles of sandy beach leading to the Lake District’s only coastal village, the fishing village of Ravenglass.
