What customers say

This well-maintained campsite in a beautiful Lake District location receives consistent praise for its friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and spacious pitches. It's a popular choice for families, offering a playground and woodland walks. Its prime location for hiking, particularly to Scafell Pike and Wast Water, is frequently highlighted. Limited WiFi and phone signal are available at reception. Minor criticisms include the rocky ground for pegs and occasional queues for facilities during peak times.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely location, nice scenery, the local pub was lovely with live music, games and good food, lots of drinking water taps accessible in the fields, lots of space for pitching up.

Disliked No electric plugs in the toilet block for hair tools. Not a lot of room in laundry for drying and washing items of clothing, only enough for one person at a time. Grass gets very boggy when it’s rained. Cleaning Staff member had rushed us out of the toilets in an unfriendly manner when we were in the middle of brushing our teeth. So many spiders on the toilet block ceilings and walls. Feral kittens present that approach tents at nighttime whining outside loudly - quite scary noises.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Flat pitches
Convenient shop on site
Clean shower block
Pub within easy walking distance
Great location for Scafell Pike
Beautiful scenery

Disliked I thought £18 for an extra car and £16 for an extra person in my tent was a little excessive.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked What a wonderful campsite in a beautiful part of the Lake District. Amazing facilities, hot showers, clean and tidy, no late night noise. It was just the break I needed especially the recovery after climbing nearby Sca Fell Pike. Will definitely be returning in the future. 5 Stars.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked This is the second time we have been here, this time there was signal all around the site instead of just at the reception; which I know isn’t why you go on holiday but it did help plan stuff when the rains came.
The site is super roomy/ clean/ friendly. The park and footy area is great for the kids. There is a real sense of family as all the kids just run around with each other. While there were groups of adults the noise level is so quiet.
Great views and proximity to lakes and the beach at seascale.
This time we didn’t have the weather which with 2 children under 10 years old was a problem, but one we overcome by tinsint indoor activities.

Disliked Nothing, I loved it and would come back again.

Local attractions

Whether you’re climbing, canoeing or just ambling gently around with picnic in backpack, the Wasdale valley is a pretty pleasant place for a Lake District break. The valley is over 10 miles long if you fancy a full day’s historic hike, starting from the village of Wasdale Head, the start of the Three Peaks Challenge and the former home of Cumbrian pub landlord Will Ritson, whose tall tales led to the still-going-strong Biggest Liar Competition. One of the tiniest churches in the land, St Olaf’s, is at Wasdale in its ‘Viking fields’: Wasdale was originally settled by Norse farmers and the beams in the church are rumoured to be from Viking longships. Climbers can get to Scafell Pike and Great Gable from Wasdale Head, but walkers can continue along the valley length down to the village of Gosforth, which has the biggest Viking Cross in England at the Grade I-listed St Mary’s Church. Finally, fancy the beach? The Cumbrian coast at Seascale is seven miles from Church Stile Farm (walkable, you might reckon), with miles of sandy beach leading to the Lake District’s only coastal village, the fishing village of Ravenglass.
