Camp with views of ullswater

  • Spacious family park with spectacular views of Lake District fells
  • Penrith a 20-minute drive and Lake Ullswater within a 30-minute walk
  • Marina, licensed bar with TV and a games room, shop and playground
If you reckon a site with stunning views of the Cumbrian fells sounds like your kind of place, head over to family-friendly Ullswater Holiday Park. Sitting a half-hour walk from the shores of Ullswater (where guests can use Fair Field Marina or spend time canoeing, fishing and riding the famed Ullswater steamers), this option’s in a fab location for touring round the Lake District National Park. Kids can mess about in the half-acre playground at this well-equipped place, while adults have an ale at the licensed bar or a Farrer’s coffee in the café. Wifi is available (around the reception area and bar, not the whole site) and there's also a shop for essentials (including groceries and camping equipment) and a few supermarkets are 20 minutes’ drive away in the nearest town of Penrith. The capital of Cumbria in days of yore, this place has the 14th-century fortress to prove it... If loping from local village to local village seeing structures such as this sounds like an excellent option too, ride one of the Lake Ullswater steamers stopping at settlements such as Pooley Bridge and Glenridding along with the Aira Force falls. After you’ve set eyes on the whooshing water, other attractions nearby include those that combine architecture with lush landscapes – like Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, 10 minutes away, and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20 minutes). There's also the Rheged Centre Cinema, a heritage hub in an old quarry with a grass roof, gallery and 3D screen (15 minutes away). Please note that the games room and bar may not be available in the low season (check in advance for opening hours).

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely staff! Easy check in. Well stocked shop. Fish n chips on site. Great location :) lovely views. Plenty of hot water for a shower after days on the hills.

Disliked People breaking rules: campfires not allowed but plenty of people were having them. Dogs should be on a leash, though dogs were running about into the fields full of lambs. Smell of cannabis in the air. Could do with patrols of an evening to keep people in check :)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really glad to hear you enjoyed the friendly staff, easy check‑in, well‑stocked shop, hot showers and of course the views, it’s lovely to know those parts of your stay hit the mark.

We’re equally grateful that you highlighted the issues you experienced. You’re absolutely right: open fires, off‑lead dogs in livestock areas, and any kind of rule‑breaking shouldn’t be happening. We take these concerns seriously, and your comments help us improve. We’re reviewing our evening monitoring and will be increasing patrols to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe, respectful environment.

Thanks again for your balanced and thoughtful review, we hope to welcome you back for an even better stay in the future.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great views and really peaceful.
Has EV charging.

Disliked Unable to have a camp fire. This is stated but it does get really cold at night. We would come again but would consider electric hook up for this site with no fires being allowed.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely feedback — we’re so pleased you enjoyed the peaceful setting, the views, and the convenience of our EV charging.

We completely understand the disappointment about not being able to have a campfire, especially on colder nights. Unfortunately, we’ve had to introduce a strict no‑campfire policy due to several safety incidents on site in the past. The safety of our guests and the surrounding landscape has to come first, so this rule is in place to protect everyone.

Many guests do find that an electric hook‑up helps keep things cosy in the evenings, and it’s a great option if you decide to stay with us again.

Thank you again for your understanding and for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’d love to welcome you back for another peaceful stay.

The Honeybee camping pod (no pets)

Liked This place is just fabulous, 2nd year in a row we have visited, just love the Bee pod that is tucked away at the back of the park, really quiet and peaceful, weather was lovely so it was nice sitting outside on a morning listening to the birds with a cuppa or on a night with a glass of wine.
Pod was very clean, we had a problem with the carbon monoxide detector, the alarm went off so we called reception, they sent a lovely lad within 5 minutes who changed the battery, problem solved! Staff very helpful, nice little shop on site which sells just about everything. Didn't go in the bar but we did go to the chippy, food was really tasty and reasonably priced, highly recommend.
Lots to do nearby, Penrith 20 mins in car or Pooley Bridge which has plenty of pubs/restaurants and souvenir shops. Keswick is 30 mins away in the car, again plenty to do especially if you're a walker/hiker, plenty of mountains to climb.
Recommend this site 100% stay is never long enough and we can't wait to go back next year!!

Disliked Absolutely nothing!

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a fantastic review — it’s wonderful to hear this was your second year with us and that the Bee Pod continues to be a favourite. It really is a special little spot, and we’re delighted you enjoyed those peaceful mornings with the birds and relaxing evenings outside.

We’re glad the pod was spotless for your arrival, and it’s great to know our team were able to sort the carbon monoxide alarm so quickly for you. I’ll make sure your kind words are passed on. It’s also lovely to hear you enjoyed the shop and the chippy — the team will be thrilled with your recommendation.

You’ve summed up the area perfectly too; there’s so much to explore nearby, whether it’s a wander around Pooley Bridge, a trip into Penrith, or a day out in Keswick for a good hike.

Hearing that you’d recommend us 100% and can’t wait to return next year genuinely means a lot. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another peaceful stay.

Local attractions

The Lake District doesn’t skimp on swish sights and attractions, and many of the best things to see and do in the national park – from bushcraft and watersports to golf and tennis – are within easy driving distance of the site. For classic Cumbrian walks Hallin Fell is a 20-minute drive away and the market town of Keswick, where you can go from perusing a pencil museum to dancing around the megalithic Castlerigg Stone Circle, is reachable in 25 minutes. A bit south of the town of Penrith (20 minutes) are the prehistoric Mayburgh Henge and Norman Brougham Castle. Other well-known Lake District settlements are also within easy reach along winding roads, like to Windermere (45 minutes away) and Ambleside (50 minutes). And if you fancy a crack at cantering instead of sitting in the car? Horse riding can be had from stables within a 15-minute drive, while guests who prefer roving on a revving vehicle can squat upon a quad bike and set off into the local lands (25 minutes from the park).
