Camp with views of ullswater

  • Spacious family park with spectacular views of Lake District fells
  • Penrith a 20-minute drive and Lake Ullswater within a 30-minute walk
  • Marina, licensed bar with TV and a games room, shop and playground
If you reckon a site with stunning views of the Cumbrian fells sounds like your kind of place, head over to family-friendly Ullswater Holiday Park. Sitting a half-hour walk from the shores of Ullswater (where guests can use Fair Field Marina or spend time canoeing, fishing and riding the famed Ullswater steamers), this option’s in a fab location for touring round the Lake District National Park. Kids can mess about in the half-acre playground at this well-equipped place, while adults have an ale at the licensed bar or a Farrer’s coffee in the café. Wifi is available (around the reception area and bar, not the whole site) and there's also a shop for essentials (including groceries and camping equipment) and a few supermarkets are 20 minutes’ drive away in the nearest town of Penrith. The capital of Cumbria in days of yore, this place has the 14th-century fortress to prove it... If loping from local village to local village seeing structures such as this sounds like an excellent option too, ride one of the Lake Ullswater steamers stopping at settlements such as Pooley Bridge and Glenridding along with the Aira Force falls. After you’ve set eyes on the whooshing water, other attractions nearby include those that combine architecture with lush landscapes – like Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, 10 minutes away, and Lowther Castle & Gardens (20 minutes). There's also the Rheged Centre Cinema, a heritage hub in an old quarry with a grass roof, gallery and 3D screen (15 minutes away). Please note that the games room and bar may not be available in the low season (check in advance for opening hours).

This campsite offers spacious, clean pitches and modern facilities, including excellent showers and toilets. Guests praised the friendly and helpful staff, on-site shop and popular fish and chip shop. The location is ideal for walks and exploring the Lake District, with beautiful views. Minor issues mentioned include Wi-Fi signal and some noise from nearby properties or children's play areas, though overall experiences were very positive with many guests planning return visits.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Great location for nearby walks. Very clean pitch area with lots of bins located around which seem to get emptied both mornings. Pitch well lit with a water supply on pitch.
Welcoming reception staff. Option for a chippy or coffee. Didn't access the bar or games room but great facilities.

Disliked I can only talk about the showers closest to the reception but they were the most powerful showers I have ever been in. Far to hot, felt like your skin was being jet washed off, angled quite bad so clothes got wet behind and unable to adjust temperature.

We was on pitch 23, luckily in our case it didnt happen but if anyone had of been on pitch 24 it would have been uncomfortably close.

Missed a trick on not selling Breakfast sandwiches, plenty of pitches went to the coffee shop in the morning of packing up hoping to get some breakfast.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the great location for walks, the clean and well‑kept pitch area, and the convenience of having lighting and water on your pitch. It’s lovely to know our reception team made you feel welcome, and that you appreciated having the Chippy, coffee and other facilities available on site.

We’re sorry to hear the showers near reception didn’t feel quite right for you. Just to clarify for future guests — the showers are adjustable, and you simply need to turn the control to change the temperature and pressure. That said, we’ll look at making this clearer, as we understand it’s not always obvious at first glance.

Thank you also for your comments about pitch spacing; feedback like this helps us continually review how we can improve comfort for everyone.

Regarding breakfast sandwiches, we completely understand the demand — especially on busy mornings when guests are packing up. At the moment, staffing makes this a difficult one for us, as we only have someone available for short hours, so offering a full breakfast service isn’t something we can reliably support right now. It’s definitely something we’d love to explore further as our team grows.

We really appreciate your balanced and helpful feedback, and we hope to welcome you back again soon for an even better stay.

All in all a lovely well kept site.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your feedback — we’re really glad to hear you loved your visit.
We’re sorry about the issue with footballs in the area. We understand how frustrating it can be when cars or tents are at risk of being hit. Your comments are genuinely helpful, and we’ll be reviewing our setup to see how we can create a safer, more comfortable space for everyone.
We hope to welcome you back again soon.

Liked The location is lovely well kept areas facilities clean the local bus is a bonus to get about

Disliked Even though the pitches were a good size it still felt packed in (I was on pitch 28) the Pub needed a bit of a makeover

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the beautiful location, the well‑kept areas, the clean facilities, and found the local bus service a real bonus for getting around. It’s great to know those parts of your stay made a positive impression.

We’re sorry to hear that, even with the good‑sized pitches, your area still felt a little packed in, especially around pitch 28. We’ll certainly take that on board as we review spacing and layout. We also appreciate your comments about the pub needing a makeover refreshing and updating facilities is something we continually look at, and feedback like yours helps guide those improvements.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We hope we’ll have the chance to welcome you back for a more comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Local attractions

The Lake District doesn’t skimp on swish sights and attractions, and many of the best things to see and do in the national park – from bushcraft and watersports to golf and tennis – are within easy driving distance of the site. For classic Cumbrian walks Hallin Fell is a 20-minute drive away and the market town of Keswick, where you can go from perusing a pencil museum to dancing around the megalithic Castlerigg Stone Circle, is reachable in 25 minutes. A bit south of the town of Penrith (20 minutes) are the prehistoric Mayburgh Henge and Norman Brougham Castle. Other well-known Lake District settlements are also within easy reach along winding roads, like to Windermere (45 minutes away) and Ambleside (50 minutes). And if you fancy a crack at cantering instead of sitting in the car? Horse riding can be had from stables within a 15-minute drive, while guests who prefer roving on a revving vehicle can squat upon a quad bike and set off into the local lands (25 minutes from the park).
