This campsite boasts an incredible lakeside location with stunning views, offering direct access for activities like paddleboarding. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and helpful owners, the peaceful atmosphere, and the well-spaced pitches. Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything!! Breathtaking view, lake with clear water, away from lights so the stars were incredible.
A couple of miles from water sports centres, boat hire, and Gazedale forest which has Go Ape and brilliant walks and mountain bike trails. The Muddy Duck pub which has wonderful food is also a mile away.
We had a amazing break and would definitely go back.
Thank you.

friendly. I loved the low key, simple signage. The site had everything you need, but keeps things beautifully simple.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked This campsite is a brilliant location, right on the lake. Plenty of space and the groups weren't too close together. Quiet and back to basics.

It is, as advertised, off grid so there isn't a local shop. This helps keep the site quiet and peaceful - just plan ahead and its all good.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Fantastic location on the bank of Windermere with direct access to the lake. Facilities are basic but exactly as expected and it's got what you need (toilets, shower, sink, water).
The campsite had a lively but friendly atmosphere despite the rain!

Disliked Sheep poo absolutely everywhere. This isn't really a complaint, it's just the nature of the site and nobody needs to change it. Just prepare to hose down your tent after. When the ground is wet the flat spots get very boggy very easily, so if you happen to have a wet weekend you might need to camp on a bit of a slope.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything was fantastic! The location was great, right next to the lake with incredible views from the tent. The friendliness and helpfulness of the owners was second to none. The facilities on site were outstanding, plumbed toilets with toilets roll and a hot shower, what more could we ask for!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Such a beautiful campsite right on the lake—quiet, peaceful, and the perfect spot for paddleboarding. We couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing stay. Tom, the owner, was absolutely lovely and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He even brought a fire pit and wood straight to our tent! We can’t wait to come back.

Disliked No shop in walking distance if you need something, but 5 minute drive to the local shell garage.

Local attractions

Grapple with the Go Ape course in Grizedale Forest (15 minutes’ drive) or stick to the walking, cycling or mountain biking the tracks down below. There are sculptures all around and the chance to walk with fell ponies through the forest too. As you can expect, there's no shortage of activity centres nearby – Woodland Xperiences (two minutes) is one such place, running outdoor adventures such as canoeing, rewilding and climbing. If you've brought the kids, or fancy heading back into your own childhood, meet favourite characters at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (20 minutes). Wray Castle (25 minutes), a National Trust site, is also a bit like something from a storybook with impressive turrets and towers looking out over the lake. Another National Trust site, Fell Foot Park (five minutes) has a relaxed circular walk around gothic boathouses, pine trees and gardens. Head south towards Ulverston (15 minutes), where there’s the canal and South Lakes Safari Zoo (25 minutes). And to the east of the site, Kendal (half an hour) is another splendid Lake District town, near the grand Sizergh Castle (20 minutes).
