From paddleboarding, kayaking or hiring a boat for Lake Windermere’s light waves to tucking into some tasty food from a café in one of the lakeside villages around the Lake District National Park… when you set up camp on the banks of Lake Windermere at Stock Park Lakeside Camping, there is much to do on the lake and its shores. This site is under five minutes’ drive away from two activity centres running pursuits such as watersports, laser tag and abseiling. Being a 15-minute walk away from the nearest Windermere ferry stop makes it even simpler to stop off at the attractions around the lake, such as a jetty museum, castle and Windermere village’s characterful parks, shops and restaurants. As the site backs onto the lake, fishing can be done from the site. It's also directly opposite an old bobbin mill, now an English Heritage museum, and 10 minutes’ drive away from the National Trust site at the Hill Top for a trip into the life of Beatrix Potter. Don’t worry about leaving the dog behind, as furry members of the family welcome on site too. It's all about getting back to nature here, so basic facilities are around the site – including flushing toilets, showers and a washing-up area. A farm shop five minutes’ drive away is the place for picnic supplies or to grab some meat for the grill (both barbecues and campfires are permitted back on site). And when you feel like a drink or a meal out, there are several places to eat within 10 minutes’ drive, too.

Liked Location was excellent. Access to the lake was great too for swimming and paddling with the kids. The children loved playing in the stream.

Washing up facilities were ok, good to have warm water. Toilets and showers were very basic and need upgrading but overall fine and doable for two nights.

It was a nice touch to be able to use the fire pits and pay for the wood on the qr code. Would have loved the option to use the sauna!

Disliked Although it was a large site, there wasn’t a lot of choice due to how boggy the grass was, and it was very uneven. We ended up camped on a slant, which made sleeping difficult.

There was goose poo everywhere, I’ve no idea if this is something they can control, probably not, but it wasn’t nice to camp with it, and had to make sure the kids were really careful where they stepped.

It was meant to be a family site but the rules weren’t followed by a few, and really loud music from other camps went on into the night. Again I know this is hard to control but if someone came around about 10 to let everyone know to keep it down, it would help those with young children.

Liked The location is ideal and the staff are super friendly and very helpful :) the pitches are well maintained and very clean.

Disliked The only issue I had was the toilets having an unpleasant smell of urine.

Liked Very nice area, great lake, people were very respectful. owner was also very respectful and nice guy. surrounding area had many things to do so you didnt have to stay on the camp site all day.

Disliked Price of wood was to expensive £15
Shower area was poor, does need a bit of love and improvements

Liked Beautiful lakeside setting. Very relaxed camping atmosphere. Some rope swings. Toilets seemed to be clean regularly and there was firewood available to buy

Disliked Cold showers. I had a luke warm one and two cold ones, I didnt meet anyone who had a hot shower.
We chose the location partly because of the 10-15 minute walk advertised to the ferry. However its a narrow, winding main road with no footpaths. We had bikes so used these and part way down the road l, maybe half a mile or so along there is a track you can cross over to but wouldnt have wanted to walk the main road especially with young children.
Some of the site is tents only.
Very rustic camping for the price, but such a beautiful setting with free access to the lake and lots to explore, a great place for children to be in nature. We got woken by ducks one day, can watch the boats go past, swim, kayak, swim stones etc, have bbq and fires.

Liked The site was amazing so peaceful, lots of space it’s great that you can hire fire pits whilst there. The views are to die for!! You are right on the lake where we went swimming.
Lake side is in walking distance and there’s lots to do there.

Disliked The sign on the road was only small and me being me drove past it 3 times 😂😂

Grapple with the Go Ape course in Grizedale Forest (15 minutes’ drive) or stick to the walking, cycling or mountain biking the tracks down below. There are sculptures all around and the chance to walk with fell ponies through the forest too. As you can expect, there's no shortage of activity centres nearby – Woodland Xperiences (two minutes) is one such place, running outdoor adventures such as canoeing, rewilding and climbing. If you've brought the kids, or fancy heading back into your own childhood, meet favourite characters at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (20 minutes). Wray Castle (25 minutes), a National Trust site, is also a bit like something from a storybook with impressive turrets and towers looking out over the lake.
