Stunning winter days

  • Touring site with stunning fell views five minutes’ drive from Keswick
  • In the Lake District National Park; Honister Slate Mine half an hour
  • Fresh eggs and milk sold on site; local shop and pub 10 minutes’ walk
With a spectacular backdrop of lakeland fells such as Blencathra, Skiddaw and Latrigg, The Willows is a gorgeous spot for caravan or campervan holidays in the Lake District National Park. Set between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake (about five minutes’ drive to either), this farm site is just outside the village of Braithwaite (10 minutes’ walk), and also five minutes’ drive from the cafés and galleries of Keswick (easily accessed via the A66). On site, you can buy essentials such as free-range eggs, fresh milk, butter and a selection of dairy produce. Most other basics (and stuff for barbecues) can be found at the local shop (10 minutes’ walk), which is open seven days a week. There’s a pub and a tearoom in Braithwaite too. The rural setting of The Willows combines with modern amenities in the wooden shower block to make your stay both convenient and peaceful. Dogs and kids are more than welcome, and you can all stretch your legs (or paws) on walking trails accessed right from the pitches. Please just keep your dogs on leads around the site as there are farm animals in the vicinity.

What customers say

This is a small, peaceful site in a great location, offering stunning mountain views and easy access to local walks and Keswick. Visitors praised the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, friendly and helpful owners, and convenient amenities like on-pitch water and good Wi-Fi. Some minor issues were noted regarding signage, pitch suitability for awnings, and occasional road noise, but the overall experience was highly positive, with many intending to return.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Site difficult to find pitches are ok but if it is full you don’t have much space around you. Facilities are lovely but could do with a toilet roll holder and air dryers as a towel to dry hands on used by everyone is not very hygienic. Didn’t see owners but information was very good and telephone no was available if need

From the manager: Good morning, thank you for your review, we are aware that the site is set back from the road some what, this just adds to its peaceful outlook, this is why with each booking I send a pictoral step by step guide of how to get to us so that even if you didnt have a sat nav or access to a telephone with google maps (type in The Willows Keswick and it brings you right to us), you will still get here without issue. Ordering a toilet roll holder now, thank you thats a fab idea, air dryers are less hygienic in many respects but I will certainly look at disposable hand towels but worry about the impact on the environment of single use disposables.... , I suppose for certainty anyone who was worried about that type of problem would use their own towel or one from their own motorhome/caravan? Thanks for taking the time for the review and again for the hint about the loo roll holder its just not something I had thought of so thank you :-)

Lovely little site, clean amenities, good location, beautiful views.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great little site, with fabulous views, close to Keswick and local places to eat/shop. Food deliveries available to site from Keswick. Only stayed one night, but would definitely return. Facilities were clean and well kept. All booked online so didn’t meet owners this time. Highly recommended

From the manager: Thanks Colin, I have also now added a pictoral guide to my welcome email as we arent allowed any signage due to the strict planning restrictions here in the Lake District National Park. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review, they make such a difference, Lindsey

Local attractions

When visiting Keswick (five minutes’ drive), be sure to stop at the Derwent Pencil Museum, which explores the history of this humble writing tool and other art materials – with a wide range available at the on-site shop. Afterwards, make your way to the shore of Derwentwater for a canoeing or rowing expedition, or a cruise around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park (10 minutes) is the place for a meditative walk with an alpaca, a falconry experience or a meet-and-greet session with meerkats, lemurs or tapirs. It’s also possible to witness feeding sessions with lynx and red pandas, and to take part in assorted craft workshops. Among the activities at Honister Slate Mine (half an hour), in the foothills of Dale Head, are underground tours of the mine (including one with a spooky haunted theme, and another where you get to scale the walls of the cavern) and thrilling outdoor pursuits such as a via ferrata climbing route and the null Bridge, high above the Borrowdale Valley.
