With a spectacular backdrop of lakeland fells such as Blencathra, Skiddaw and Latrigg, The Willows is a gorgeous spot for adults-only caravan or campervan holidays in the Lake District National Park. Set between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake (about five minutes’ drive to either), this farm site is just outside the village of Braithwaite (10 minutes’ walk), and also five minutes’ drive from the cafés and galleries of Keswick (easily accessed via the A66). On site, you can buy essentials such as free-range eggs, fresh milk, butter and a selection of dairy produce. Most other basics (including food for barbecues) can be found at the local shop (10 minutes’ walk), which is open seven days a week. There’s a pub and a tearoom in Braithwaite too. The rural setting of The Willows combines with modern amenities in the wooden shower block to make your stay both convenient and peaceful. Dogs are more than welcome, and you can stretch your legs (or paws) on walking trails accessed right from the pitches. Please just keep your dogs on leads around the site as there are farm animals in the vicinity.

Peaceful spot with fab views, near Braithwaite & Keswick. Clean loos/showers, friendly owners. EHU/water pitches avail. Some find it a bit 'car park-y' with small pitches for awnings, and signage could be better. Ongoing upgrades underway.

Liked All facilities were great for our overnight stay and a short walk to the local Village .Bus stop nearby for going into Keswick and further .

Disliked Would have been nice to have met the owner instead of a text .

Liked Lovely level site. Quiet, even though it's next to a small business park - I did have some fast jets passing overhead one afternoon, which was great. Lovely view over fields. Toilets and showers really clean and well kept. Indoor washing up area.

Disliked Communication about the booking didn't go well. Though I found it and stayed ok so no problem.

Recommend to friends Visit again

A good spot for walking to Keswick and surrounding area.

Liked The owners were lovely, helpful and friendly. The site was clean, with 3 separate toilet blocks, all with showers, heating and hot water and there was a indoor area for washing up. Really good wi-fi and bins on site, plus individual electrical hook up and water tap.
The walk to the village was just over the road and we tried 2 pubs, both nice. We also walked to Keswick via their field, which was about 2 miles, with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants.

Liked The simplicity and size of the site; EHU and water available on the pitches along with a good (free) shower and toilets with loo roll always available.

The sites location to Keswick and access to public transport was a real draw along with the footpaths available from site.

Absolutely perfect spot!

Disliked Nothing the site has control over; just a dog owner allowing their dog to run around from their safari tent.

When visiting Keswick (five minutes’ drive), be sure to stop at the Derwent Pencil Museum, which explores the history of this humble writing tool and other art materials – with a wide range available at the on-site shop. Afterwards, make your way to the shore of Derwentwater for a canoeing or rowing expedition, or a cruise around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park (10 minutes) is the place for a meditative walk with an alpaca, a falconry experience or a meet-and-greet session with meerkats, lemurs or tapirs. It’s also possible to witness feeding sessions with lynx and red pandas, and to take part in assorted craft workshops. Among the activities at Honister Slate Mine (half an hour), in the foothills of Dale Head, are underground tours of the mine (including one with a spooky haunted theme, and another where you get to scale the walls of the cavern) and thrilling outdoor pursuits such as a via ferrata climbing route and the null Bridge, high above the Borrowdale Valley.
