General

  • Peaceful family-run smallholding site surrounded by ancient forest
  • A 10-minute drive from Chester and within 40 of north Wales beaches
  • Campfire and barbecue areas on site

You shouldn't be too surprised to hear that there's royally handsome countryside surrounding the quiet rural site of Kings Acre Glamping. And how royally handsome it is too: the green lands around the site run to 20 acres and were historically part of the King’s Forest.

You can venture regally around two kingdoms from here too, as Kings Acre is deep in Cheshire countryside for English days aplenty, and within 40 minutes' drive of both splendid Snowdonia and the beaches of the north Wales coast. The ancient city of Chester is a mere three and a half miles away for shopping and sightseeing, or you could stick to non-urban days and make your way north to the beaches, comely villages and famed golf courses of the Wirral peninsula.

Kings Acre is a peaceful and spacious park on a family-run smallholding, serenely set down a private lane in the village of Saughall. It's in a walkers' paradise with plenty of nearby footpaths – or you might prefer to seek out the site's small lake and see if the little bar is open...?

Amenities include a mobile toilet block, hot showers, a drinking water standpipe and a washing-up sink; there are also communal areas for campfires and barbecues.

    Nothing.

    Disliked:

Everything! Bell tent was full of mold as was the wooden structure the double matress was sat on.
Tent was situated next to the septic tank so all we could smell was human waste whilst there.
Website indicated there was a wood a two ponds on the site. No woods that I could see and only one small pond that you could access easily, the other was a stagnant pond with a few trapped ducks under a net.
This was accessible through a stack of hay bales that was hiding a load of rubbish behind them and across a field with two loose horses in.

Had my son's wedding here so knew what to expect.
Excellent for one night to give my 7 year old grandson an experience of camping. He loved the encounter especially the fire we built in the pit.

Excellent venue for a wedding by the way

    Disliked:

We only had a small tent, just for the one night, so could have done with the car being nearer to keep all the extra stuff we might have needed.

The peace and quiet. How spacious yet small and intimate the site was. The children loved feeding the fish in the pond and interacting with the horses each evening. Loved the little kitchen with fridge and kettle! Everything clean. There was even access to a plug so we could charge our phones! Can’t fault this place.

Local attractions

Take your pick from England or Wales, River Dee or Snowdonia fishing, and beaches and seaside villages on both sides of the border. Golfers should most cetsinly bring along their clubs too, as the nearby Wirral peninsula is home to Hoylake Municipal Golf Club, the venue for The Open in 2014.

The famed and fab Roman city of Chester is within 20 minutes' drive, for shops, bars and restaurants if your tastes tend towards the more modern, and the city walls (the most complete in Britain), cathedral, Chester Castle and Grosvenor Museum for more anciently-themed pursuits. Meets and events are at Chester Racecourse, also within 10 minutes, and family days can/should be had at Chester Zoo, the UK's most visited with over 21,000 critters to see.

Heading north to the Wirral, clamber up the sand dunes at the North Wirral Coastal Park 25 minutes' drive away, ot have a spot of birdwatching at Red Rocks beach (40 minutes), followed by the spectacularly scenic walk from Red Rocks to West Kirby. Another top Wirral attraction is the village of Port Sunlight, built for local workers in the 19th century: potter around the arts and crafts cottages, museum and art gallery, or take a heritage tour.

Must see

  • Chester Zoo (2.6 miles)
  • Chester Cathedral (2.8 miles)
  • Chester Castle (3.1 miles)
