  • Easy links to the national motorway network
  • A 10-minute walk to the local town of Hatfield
South Yorkshire activity seekers: sorted. Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite on the outskirts of Doncaster has quite the heap of active options on site – and is in an area with plenty more in the surrounds, from golf to hiking to hurtling around indoors at the Doncaster Dome. The active options on site are land- and water-based, and vary depending on the time of year; they might include courses, group sessions, team building, parties, canoeing and outdoor swimming. Or you could just use the site as a base to potter around Doncaster and South Yorkshire, or as an overnight stopover easy to access because of its nifty links to the national motorway network. This site is family-friendly, with facilities including a toilet and shower block, a chemical disposal point, a washing-up area and a deep sink for clothes washing. A play area and vending machines are also on site. It's a 10-minute walk to the old town of Hatfield, where supplies can be picked up at the local newsagent, post office, mini-market and off-licence and bakery; there are also restaurants and pubs for all manner of eats and drinks. Responsible dog owners are welcome at the site.

Liked Camping

Disliked Nothing really much to do for the younger kids games room is to small so got over crowded and thats just not with people that were camping the parks didn't really have much on them
And it was expensive just to do the aqua park for 50min.
We was also told that we couldn't use our gas stove so we had to eat out every night so that took all the kids pocket money away
The washer and dryer were absolutely rubbish staff were okay they need to learn how to smile and have social communication skills

Liked Loved our second stay here . The amenities were nice and clean plenty of hot water showers are push button and have a good water pressure . The activities were excellent all at extra cost but definitely worth it we took out a boat around the lake went on the aqua park and axe throwing. My son said it was the best birthday he's had as we were there for his 14th birthday. Pitch size was perfect. Wifi available on site. Staff were friendly and very helpful. There was also a playground for younger children , a woodland play park on site . A short walk there is a lovely field to walk your dog and have a rest horses in a nearby field , a skate park that was used by locals and other campers, and if you take your bikes there an area with a few jumps and can use the skate park for stunts.

Disliked Nothing

Liked The activity centre was good, but could only access the lake for paid activities. Spacious pitches with electric hookup. Close to a great playing field and pretty village.

Disliked Some motorway noise could be heard all night. Could do with increasing the cleaning schedule for the shower block and washing up facilities.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Tent pitch size was good and in the shade
Staff accommodated our request to be near our friends

Disliked Being told upon arrival that we wouldn’t be able to use our electric cool box because the site was quite full and other people on our circuit were using theirs too. We shouldn’t have been put in this situation given we had paid for EHU. Luckily after the first few hours the electric seemed to be holding up and we were able to use it.

Horrendous noise from groups of adults and children into the early hours, screaming and running around between tents. Security guard on two of the nights was more concerned we still had a fire on at 10:30 rather than dealing with the families shouting and waking up the kids.

Toilets were horrendous, absolutely filthy and often with no toilet paper. There should be seperate showers and toilets.

Activities were expensive and should be discounted if staying on the site.

Local attractions

Doncaster town centre with its market is a 20-minute drive away, or you could get one of the buses running regularly to there from the Hatfield high street. If you're at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite to be an active sort, head to the 25-metre pool, sports hall and gym of Thorne Leisure Centre 10 minutes away, to the golf course half an hour's drive away, or to the 50 or so indoor and energetic activities of Doncaster Dome. Other good options in the area are the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (20 minutes), Doncaster Racecourse (20 minutes), Pennine hikes to the county's west, a day out in Scunthorpe (half an hour), or a wander around Yorkshire's many historic houses, like the halls of Normanby, Doddington and Brodsworth. Cusworth Hall Museum (half an hour's drive) is a good spot for some history combined with outdoor time. The Grade I-listed building is set in acres of historic parkland, including a gorgeous RHS walled garden. Another big plus: the hall's original brewery has been turned into a microbrewery and bar that serves beer brewed in the hall. Feel like some nature-spotting? Good options include the Humberhead Peatlands NNR (10 minutes), home to over 5,000 species of plants and animals, and the YWT Potteric Carr Nature Reserve (20 minutes), with flocks of bitterns among other wading birds.
