  • Quiet south Northumberland site with views over the Tyne Valley
  • A mile from the village of Acomb; Hexham 10 minutes' drive
  • Campfires and barbecues welcome; dinner or cooked breakfast hampers
Sunniside House in southern Northumberland is a quiet campsite a mile from the small village of Acomb. There are excellent views to admire here from nearly every angle, with far-reaching vistas over the surrounding Tyne Valley and out to the Pennine peaks beyond. This rural site has a small number of pitches to ensure everyone has sufficient breathing space, along with facilities including a shower, toilets, a washing-up area and a shared fridge. This simple spot is a couple of minutes' walk from The Mariners and a mile away from The Miners Arms, another popular local pub, but food and drink can be sorted on site too if you opt for one of Sunniside House's dinner or breakfast hampers (speak to site staff for details). After sorting your own dinner, you may also be able to help the farmers feed the lambs. Once you've sampled some local produce and settled in for your stay, you might like to walk the two miles out to Hadrian's Wall for rambles along the old Roman frontier. It's also a couple of miles from the heaps of heritage on display at St. Oswald's in Lee Church and the site of the Battle of Heavenfield. Campfires and barbecues are welcome, but they are only allowed in designated areas. Packs of kiln-dried wood, kindling and firelighters are available to buy on site. Please do not bring your own fuel.

Arena View non-electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Everything. A beautiful and solitary site. It was nice to see sheep as one travels to the Lou. One felt safe as the owner lives on site, but with minimal contact. Close to very good walks. Amenities basic but adequate. Great for tents and small camper vans . No large motor homes. Bliss

Disliked: No hot water to wash dishes

Valley View non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The facilities were really good, clean and always available (shower/toilet/washing up/fridge) and the owners were very friendly.

Disliked: We paid £15 for logs for the fire which was a little more than we are used to paying but not too bad at all. Not the campsites fault but we walked to the local pub which we thought would be a few minutes but ended up being 30 mins walk and £10 in a taxi home as it was late and dark.
