Sunniside House: Top Meadow

General

  • Quiet south Northumberland site with views over the Tyne Valley
  • A mile from the village of Acomb; Hexham 10 minutes' drive
  • Campfires and barbecues welcome; dinner or cooked breakfast hampers

Sunniside House in southern Northumberland is a quiet campsite a mile from the small village of Acomb. There are excellent views to admire here from nearly every angle, with far-reaching vistas over the surrounding Tyne Valley and out to the Pennine peaks beyond.

This rural site has a small number of pitches to ensure everyone has sufficient breathing space, along with facilities including a shower, toilets, a washing-up area and a shared fridge. This simple spot is a mile away from The Miners Arms, a popular local pub, but food and drink can be sorted on site too if you opt for one of Sunniside House's dinner or breakfast hampers (speak to site staff for details). After sorting your own dinner, you may also be able to help the farmers feed the lambs.

Once you've sampled some local produce and settled in for your stay, you might like to walk the two miles out to Hadrian's Wall for rambles along the old Roman frontier. It's also a couple of miles from the heaps of heritage on display at St. Oswald's in Lee Church and the site of the Battle of Heavenfield.

Great Overnight Stay07/25/2021

After a day walking the Roman Wall we had a great overnight stay here. The site was nice and quiet and we hired a fire pit grill with wood for a bbq which our boys all enjoyed. Single male and female toilets and showers were available both, of which were in a good state. Holly and her mam (who owns the site) were both friendly and approachable. I would highly recommend this site if you enjoy your peace and quiet.

A pity our spaniel had to be kept on the lead. The field was completely enclosed and we supervise her at all times

From the manager...

I'm so sorry you disliked to keep your Spaniel on a lead- This is in the Pitchup Ts&C- Quote
"Dogs"
"Dogs must be Kept on Leads and supervised at all times."

This is both for our livestock sake and our neighbours- but also crucially for other Campers and Children. We all love Our pets! but other people may be afraid of loose dogs, other children may not know how to approach a strange dog safely. It is for this reason we ask ALL owners to keep there dogs on a lead and within there Pitch area. Sadly as this is so un-liked by dog owners (to keep them on a lead)- we are no longer taking further booking for campers with dogs.
Wishing you and your family the best summer.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your constructive comments, hot water in the wash area may well be an option in the Stage 2 Build next year! and one mirror went up yesterday and another I'm hoping will be installed tomorrow.
Kind regards and we hope to see you again soon

Only one ladies toilet. Not able to drop off camping equipment in car before parking up

From the manager...

Many thanks for your review Lorraine.
As we are a small site, it is a short distance from your car to a chosen pitch.
We feel very strongly about keeping other guests and children playing in the fields safe onsite at all times. Therefore we limit cars to the parking area.
The furthest distance is 250ft to a pitch form the car and the closest 20ft.
I believe you may have utilised our trolley to carry items, which is available to anyone should they wish to use it. Hx
