A little wilder corner

  • Remote site set on the edge of Northumberland National Park
  • A short drive to Kielder Water and Forest watersports activities
  • Café/bar on site selling local produce and crafts
Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham. Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50. The site's excellent facilities include a café/bar open daily to sell produce and handicrafts from local growers and craftspeople. Among The Boe Rigg's other amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a launderette with washers and dryers and a washing-up area. Free wifi is available in the main building. Campfires and barbecues are both allowed but must be off the ground.

What customers say

Visitors praise Boe Rigg for its stunning rural location, friendly staff, and excellent on-site restaurant. Pitches are generally spacious and well-maintained. Many enjoy the farm animals and peaceful atmosphere. However, some found the toilet and shower facilities basic and in need of refurbishment, with occasional issues like insufficient numbers or a lack of privacy. A few reviewers noted noise from other campers or noted areas of the site requiring tidying.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Views, lovely ducks and ducklings
Nicely mown walking paths
Very Welcoming and clean

Disliked Only 2 showers available (1 out of order) & 3 toilets in ladies isn’t enough for the number of campers. Ventilation poor in there too and no hairdryer available.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely area, the wildlife, chickens and ducks the kids loved! The staff were super friendly, great food and drinks and all well priced. We weren’t given a time to leave just told to go at our own pace. The surrounding areas were lovely’s and the tent pitches were massive.

Disliked The washroom facilities need a lot of work, one shower out of use, lots of unfinished edges, broken hairdryer with no alternative. Not ideal.

Not a fault of the campsite but other noisey campers, with no camping etiquette, ideally a noise curfew like many campsites we’ve been too would work.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Just home and settled from a fab weekend at the Boe rigg. Our first time at this site and will absolutely not be our last. Our non electric tent pitch was perfect and spacious and still with a beautiful view.
Facilities were kept clean and tidy and the staff were amazing so friendly and helpful. We loved the animals on site especially my daughter who was always keeping an eye out for the ducks and ducklings waddling around the tents. Would recommend this site to anyone 10/10 from us, see you all again soon.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Warm welcome and friendly staff. Picturesque setting in the heart of Northumberland. Central location for trips out and about. Well maintained level pitches. Small bar and adjacent restaurant serving quite an extensive menu. Fire pits and BBQ's allowed. Ideal spot if you just want to "get away and chill" for a few days.

Disliked Some TLC needed to tidy things up a bit and fix a few minor issues like shower and WC locks, faulty taps etc. but nothing major.
All waste goes into the same wheelie bins (no recycling).

Local attractions

Kielder Water and Forest within 16 miles are full of watersports activities such as canoeing, sailing, and waterskiing, along with water walker and sea scooter hire. A high ropes course, climbing, zipwiring, fencing, archery and crossbow are among the many forest activities available on and above land. Three of the attractions of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage site are within a short drive: Housesteads Roman fort, the most complete in Britain; Vindolanda, and Chesters Roman Fort, six miles from Hexham. Also famed in the region is Alnwick Castle and Garden 37 miles away, made up of huge formal gardens including the world's largest treehouse, and in a setting that will be instantly recognised by Harry Potter fans (broomstick training is available during the summer months: how magic). The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 45 miles from here, to reach Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island via moorland, countryside and ancient forest. The site is 45 miles from Carlisle.
