General

  • Remote site set on the edge of Northumberland National Park
  • A short drive to Kielder Water and Forest watersports activities
  • Café bar hosting events including music, wine tasting and quiz nights

Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham.

Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50.

The site's excellent facilities include a café bar open daily to sell produce and handicrafts from local growers and craftspeople; it also hosts a programme of events throughout the year such as workshops, live music, quiz nights and wine tasting.

Among The Boe Rigg's amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a launderette with washers and dryers and a washing-up area. Free wifi is available in the main building.

Campfires and barbecues are both allowed but must be off the ground.

Nice site. Owners/managers cant do enough for you. Tidy and option of a meal and/or drink when on site. Quite a way out in the sticks but to be honest it was just a nice place to be.

    Disliked:

The horrible wet mud next to our pitch made by the motorhome opposite when parking up as could clearly be seen on their tyres where they could not park their vehicle properly meant our gravel pitch was a mud patch even though the weather was dry and we found it difficult not getting covered when getting in and out of the van. Not owners fault but the moho inexperience of parking in said area.
Also the fact that the showers in the ladies had curtains and not doors and whilst showering fathers were bringing their daughters in to use the toilet and so there was no way to stay private in their facilities.

    Lovely Restaurant on site.
Very clean and warm showers and toilet block.
    Very friendly and helpful staff.
Tap with drinking water on each pitch.

    Disliked:

I realise this is down to us being novice campers and me liking a bit more 'comfort' than camping will often provide, but there was only one path down the centre of the hill to the amenities. So this meant going through the mud and fairly long grass across the field (we had lots of rain) when needing toilets etc. This may well be the norm and many more experienced campers may find my comment amusing (What do you expect, you're camping?!) , however, the 2 other sites we had previously stayed at had paths running alongside the pitches rather than an open field to walk through.

I found this really miserable, I realise I probably need to just toughen up though!

Friendly owner on arrival explaining the ins and outs of the place. Dog friendly bar which let us also eat an evening meal in there as dogs not allowed in the restaurant side and it was wet and miserable outside for camp cooking. Facilities clean and acceptable standard. Food was delicious on site.

    Disliked:

I was aware of the issue with phone connection as advertised in the building but the wifi inside was very slow and could only run apps like facebook and instagram. Absolutely no internet or phone signal in camping field.

    Disliked:

Facilities are poor no privacy in the ladies toilets just a shower curtain separating you from other campers. The owner/managers attitude was appalling very rude appeared stressed and took it out on the customer. Disorganised will not use this site ever again. Other campers were lighting fires which were out of control. I was pitched next to the side of the road next to a large petrol tank that was left by the side of the road. There was rubbish everywhere. Had I not been meeting friends I would have left the site
