Camping field with the sea beyond

  • Simple pitches in a large field with views to the Northumberland coast
  • A five-minute drive to Craster or Dunstanburgh Castle
  • Pizza shop and café/gift shop over the road; Embleton 15 mins' walk
This is one of those excellent locations that’s both thoroughly rural and also highly convenient. The Afterlands is a simple site in the Northumberland Coast National Landscape, with fantastic views across the surrounding fields towards the sea in the distance, but with village and other amenities handily close by. The majority of those amenities are in Embleton, which is 15 minutes’ walk away and home to a couple of pubs and a farm shop. Even closer are the gift shop, café and pizza shop just over the road, and the bus stops just outside the site (for services to Alnwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh, among other places). This location also puts you within easy reach of all sorts of ways to fill your days, whether you fancy taking an easy half-hour walk from the site to Embleton Bay, checking out the area’s many castles or boarding boat trips to the wildlife-filled Farne Islands. Walks, bike rides and birdwatching are all popular local activities, and there are surf beaches (and surf lessons) close by as well. Life on site is pretty simple – you’ll be staying in a large open field with plenty of space for your awning, gazebo and camping chairs for a comfortable stay. There are portable toilets for use in the field, but please note there are no showers or electric connections on site.

What customers say

This is a quiet, spacious campsite with a relaxed approach to arrival and departure. Guests praised the peaceful atmosphere, lovely walks to the beach and village, and the convenient location near a cafe and excellent pizza place. Basic facilities include portaloos and a water tap. Some visitors noted that the portaloos could be cleaner and that there's a lack of waste disposal, dishwashing areas and showers, with a few finding the price a little high for the basic amenities.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great. No complaints. It's not an open green field, as I thought it would be based on photos. It's mostly a crop but maybe once it's harvested it's a great big open field. Lovely walks to go from the campsite. People here were actually more quiet than other campsites and it was completely peaceful at a reasonable time. Delicious pizza just 2 minutes away. I'd definitely recommend and would stay again.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Quiet pitch, spread out in a kind of semi circle looking out to the field, has internet connection ( if you have kids wanting play on phone🤦‍♀️) toilets were clean. Water tap far left when you come in. Pub half a mile away , popped in way back from seahouses for a pint and take away fish n chips which were lovely about £15 each. Didn’t try pizza place but looked lovely. Love how there’s no time limit to arrive or leave. Beach is more a 20-30 mins walk.

Disliked You can hear the cars from the road

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked quiet, nice walks to village via public footpaths, nice walk to beach.
Good pizzas and lovely shop. Welcoming, friendly staff.

Disliked porta loos were smelly. Luckily we have our emergency porta-potti, used that instead, smelling much better!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Easy to get to, and we were able to turn up when we wanted, and leave when we were ready. We really liked the walk through the woods to the beach.
It wasn't too busy, and the toilets were clean (portaloos).
Reasonable price too.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Location wise this was great. In the country with a Short walk to village. 25 minutes to sea .pizza and gift shop
Over the road . Because it’s basically just a field you can pitch where you want and no rush to leave

Disliked There’s three portaloos (not the calmest by Saturday morning f !) and one water tap way at the end of the field. But it’s unfair to call them problems because it is what it is and what it is advertising as. Nearly wild camping Pricing for two ok. But as its per person would work
Out pricy with kids

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely field of crops to look over with full view of the sunrise. 1 long strip of campers meaning you’re not surrounded by others. Portaloos are new so decent. Able to walk around the field with the dog. Good walk to beach around 15 minutes. We walked up the beach to the next village to find a good pub for a drink and ice cream. Great coffee shop opposite site, best coffee we’ve had. Proper pizza oven there is also really good. Village has good pubs, the Castle Inn food was lovely. Also village shop but we didn’t use. Nice location, will go again.
