Camping field with the sea beyond

  • Simple pitches in a large field with views to the Northumberland coast
  • A five-minute drive to Craster or Dunstanburgh Castle
  • Pizza shop and café/gift shop over the road; Embleton 15 mins' walk
This is one of those excellent locations that’s both thoroughly rural and also highly convenient. The Afterlands is a simple site in the Northumberland Coast National Landscape, with fantastic views across the surrounding fields towards the sea in the distance, but with village and other amenities handily close by. The majority of those amenities are in Embleton, which is 15 minutes’ walk away and home to a couple of pubs and a farm shop. Even closer are the gift shop, café and pizza shop just over the road, and the bus stops just outside the site (for services to Alnwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Bamburgh, among other places). This location also puts you within easy reach of all sorts of ways to fill your days, whether you fancy taking an easy half-hour walk from the site to Embleton Bay, checking out the area’s many castles or boarding boat trips to the wildlife-filled Farne Islands. Walks, bike rides and birdwatching are all popular local activities, and there are surf beaches (and surf lessons) close by as well. Life on site is pretty simple – you’ll be staying in a large open field with plenty of space for your awning, gazebo and camping chairs for a comfortable stay. There are portable toilets for use in the field, but please note there are no showers or electric connections on site.

What customers say

This peaceful campsite offers spacious pitches with a 'wild camping' feel, located a short walk from Embleton and the beach. Guests praise the tranquil atmosphere, beautiful dark skies, and convenient location opposite a cafe and popular pizza shop. While basic, the site is appreciated for its relaxed check-in/out and ample space. Some visitors noted the price as high for the limited facilities, particularly the number and occasional maintenance of the portaloos, and some road noise. Several reviewers expressed a desire to return due to the overall positive experience.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Very handy. Needed to stop and eat after travelling along way. Next door caravan and camping site was full and very expensive for a self contained campervan. Stopping for 1 night.
We love the spirit of adventure but increasingly. More and more signs requesting campers dont stay overnight.
In New Zealand as long as you had your own facilities and porta loo. This information was advertised with a specific sticker. Parking was not restricted.
At The Afterlands feild.
Porta loos where an added bonus.

Disliked It rained heavily over night.
I would have been very concerned if the field turned into a slippy mess
