Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

What customers say

This spacious campsite offers a fantastic location within easy walking distance of Settle. Guests praised the friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, and scenic riverside pitches. While facilities were generally clean and well-maintained, some visitors noted they were basic or insufficient during busy periods, particularly on bank holidays. The site is well-suited for walking and exploring the Dales.

Liked Such a beautiful spot by the river with Settle on the doorstep. Let's be honest we all look for different things but if you do not need hook up and just want a beautiful place this is perfect. The site owner was very helpful too.

Disliked The site was busy at the weekend but had a holiday feel and by Monday there were just a few of us left to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales in perfect tranquility the only sound being animals, the river tumbling over it's rocky bottom and the occasional tractor 🚜 😀

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Very friendly campsite host.
Large pitching area, lots of space.

Disliked Being shouted at by the "private caravan meet up" guy in the second field (not directly linked to the campsite, but still!). We were directed by the campsite owner to occupy either field, so headed down towards the river in the second field, only to be rudely shouted at by some old guy telling us to get out of that field!
Also, the female shower block and disabled toilet/shower was really dirty, the floors covered in mud and grass. No toilet roll in the female block.
Bin overflowing, literally had to put our rubbish on the floor.
Porter loo on field extremely smelly and the water had run out in the sink.

Liked The location is wonderful, really easy to access on foot after travelling to Settle by train. Stunning site, plenty of room to pitch with a variety of areas, river running alongside one of the fields. Toilet block and showers on site, fresh drinking water, extra portaloo toilets across the fields. Fire pits and wood available for £20. Pretty quiet when we started on a Friday and Saturday in June!

Disliked Process for booking the fire pits was quite confusing. Toilets / showers could have been a bit cleaner, and the men's showers were running absolutely scalding hot on Saturday morning. Sunday morning the ladies toilets were locked and couldn't get into them.

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
