Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Good location for exploring the area. Utility room with hot and cold water for washing dishes (and clothes if necessary). Good single shower but hard to find.

Disliked Camping site area is just a normal big field with a single tap and a single portaloo! There are no tables or any other facilities. There are some facilities but they are a distance away at the entrance beside the fixed caravan sites. The big field is not mown so there is long grass and therefore wet feet in the morning when walking across it. The showers in the facilities have a water flow button that has to be pressed every 5 seconds which makes a shower very frustrating. There is a normal shower that is great but you have to look for it. I could not find a recycling bin so brough my recycling home with me.

Great location and will stay here again because of it.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Convenient location to walk in to town in around 15 mins. New looking toilet/shower facilities. Nice large field so plenty of space to chose your spot to stay

Disliked Unfortunately the whole place looked shabby. Seasonal pitches don’t seem to have standards, unkempt grass areas, no soap in dispensers in the wash rooms and didn’t see to be cleaned daily.

Won’t stay again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked We decided not to camp as the weather forecast was terrible, and we would have had to both pitch and strike camp in heavy rain. Taking action such as this is the only way to sustain the sheer enjoyment of camping when the weather is ok.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The area and location to settle village
Clean porterloos in field

Disliked Lack of soap in handwashing for whole 4 day stay and toilet roll not replenished.
Didn’t like the idea of a car blocking exit at night with a number on windscreen to call if you needed to exit. Owner said this was security for hes storage facility on lower field.

Nice site but lack of cleaning and maintaining facilities lets it down

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Location was great, walking distance to Settle. Very peaceful spot

Disliked Facilities were good but were not cleaned or maintained, no hand soap in ladies for our entire stay (5 days) toilet paper ran out several times and not replenished. Not clean at all, just very disappointing for the price paid and what could be a really nice site. Also no-one on site to ask for things either

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
