  • Adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from Richmond in North Yorkshire
  • Catterick Racecourse five minutes’ drive; Easby Abbey 40 minutes’ walk
  • Dog-friendly pitches; Brompton on Swale pub and shop 10 minutes’ walk
For a quiet adults-only North Yorkshire stay far removed from the hurly burly of everyday life, Millfields Caravan and Camping is a tiny site tucked away in Brompton on Swale, a historic village mentioned in the Domesday Book. Peaceful it certainly is, yet there’s masses to do and see hereabouts. The lively market town of Richmond is 10 minutes’ drive away, with its photogenic Georgian architecture, museums, a castle and lots of entertainment options from cosy inns to chic restaurants. It’s also gateway to adventures in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and any keen racing fans among you have the choice of nine major racecourses: York is an hour’s drive, Wetherby 40 minutes, and Catterick a doddle to get to, being a mere five minutes away. And back on site, the manicured pitches look out over lush countryside (great for walking any dogs you've brought along), with simple facilities including showers and washing-up areas. If you choose to conjure up alfresco feasts on the barbecue, pick up essentials in the handy local shop, or you can always head to the village pub for a pint and a pie (both 10 minutes’ walk).

This adult-only campsite offers a peaceful and quiet retreat with spacious, level pitches. It is praised for its excellent location, providing easy access to local villages, pubs, shops, and Richmond, with pleasant walking opportunities nearby. Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Layed back, flat pitches, close to richmond and catterick, pub & shop 10minutes walk away.

Disliked Richmond 3miles away but no footpath for the first mile on a very busy road, buses every 2hours,new toilet block and pot wash waiting to be commisioned.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Brilliant site!! This was are first trip away in the caravan and we wanted somewhere quite and peaceful as it was also are dogs first time away and we were unsure as to how she was going to be. We feel like we hit the jackpot with this site, it was quite, peaceful and in a perfect location for exploring villages around. The pitches are very big. We were on pitch 10 and used the toilet block closest to us and there was 1 shower and 2 toilets they were very clean (cleaned very day) and perfect size for the site. Pub and village shop (that has everything you may need and more in) just a 10 minute walk away or bigger supermarkets 5 minute drive away in Richmond. This is a self check in site and has a big board map on your way in, it’s very clear and you can find your pitch no problem. Lovely little site that we would book again and recommend to others too.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked Great Location, loved the cows visiting us. Lovely village and pub. The Crown pub had a great selection of food at decent prices.
Owner came to check on us and a really nice guy telling me all about the cows. Would love to visit again once the new shower block in open.

Disliked Only 1 shower each for male and female. I'm aware theres a new block waiting to be passed off, not a problem until Friday when the site was full. Would be nice to have a dedicated service point.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good sized flat pitch with plenty of room to park the car and still have space from neighbours, no feeling of being crammed in.
Toilet and shower facilities were spotless, nice hot shower.
The site is what I'd call pleasantly sized, Goldilocks if you like with a good comfortable mix of tent pitches and caravans/RVs.

Disliked Not serious dislikes, meant as helpful comments From the tent pitches the wash up facilities were a bit of a hike, but seriously not a major problem for me.
Personal preference, but the layout is a bit regimented, being either side of a central track/road. Works perfectly well but just a little bit featureless.
PIR light right next to the tent, small but seemingly triggered very easily. Handy for that early morning trip to use the facilities though, just a bit too sensitive so it was repeatedly being triggered. A bit of gaffa tape over the PIR would probably sort it.

Local attractions

Stroll directly from your pitch to the spectacular hilltop ruins of 12th-century Easby Abbey (40 minutes’ walk), or have a ramble along the River Swale to Richmond Castle and the pebble beach at Richmond Falls (both roughly an hour). And of course, there are hikes and cycle rides for all levels of ability in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (15 minutes’ drive). Head to Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve (20 minutes) for the chance to spy birds of prey and kingfishers in the moorland, meadow and wetland habitats, or if stately houses are on your agenda, combine exploring formal gardens and a lakeside park at Jacobean-era Kiplin Hall (10 minutes) with a tour of the mansion’s richly decorated rooms. The likelihood is you’ll adore fussing over the camels, llamas and ostriches at Mainsgill Farm Shop (15 minutes), where you can also tuck into a tasty cream tea. Should the weather turn against you, book tickets for blockbuster films at The Station or tour Richmond’s restored Georgian Theatre Royal (both 10 minutes), still with its original stage and seating.
