  • Small, secluded back-to-basics farm site with a nature pond
  • A 10-minute drive from Halesworth; 20 minutes from Southwold
  • Play area and shared fridge freezer; friendly pub five minutes’ walk
Small is beautiful, they say, so surround yourself with beauty at Sunnyside Campsite, a one-acre site with grassy pitches framed by ash trees and hawthorn hedges. This peaceful meadow is also easily accessible by public transport – Brampton station is a 30-minute walk (or a 10-minute bike ride) from base. This pretty farm site has a nature pond, a kids’ play area and a tumbledown old stable that houses the spick-and-span toilets and water point. Other handy facilities include a washing-up area and a shared fridge freezer. Campfires and barbecues are allowed (as long as they’re raised off the ground), and firepits are available to hire on site, while logs and charcoal can be purchased from the little honesty shop. Fish suppers are on the cards on Thursdays, when a visiting van comes round to sell fresh, locally caught seafood. Sunnyside Campsite is in a prime location for cyclists, who can set out on long- or short-distance pedals along National Cycle Route 1, which passes right at the end of the lane. Walkers and folk who like messing around in boats also have lots of options: the Suffolk coastline can be reached in under 20 minutes’ drive, while the Norfolk Broads are less than a half-hour away. The site is a few minutes’ stroll from a friendly community pub and a village play area. Cafés, restaurants and a larger supermarket are all in Halesworth (10 minutes’ drive).

What customers say

Sunnyside Campsite offers a peaceful, rural retreat with a focus on nature and relaxation. Guests praise the friendly, welcoming hosts, the beautifully maintained, sheltered site with spacious pitches, and thoughtful touches. The on-site honesty shop, play areas for children, and proximity to a community pub are highlights. While some mention the shower facilities can be temperamental due to low water pressure, most find them adequate for the site's 'back to basics' charm.

Sunny electric grass pitch

Liked Really pretty little campsite with good size pitches and good amount of space between pitches. There is a little play area for kids and mine really enjoyed the swings. Inside the old stables you'll find one shower and toilet, a separate toilet and a little honesty shop with a few basic things. The toilets and shower is very basic and pretty and clean. It's a very calm peaceful campsite, great for getting away and relaxing.

Disliked I would give it 9 stars, however the play area is run down and need repairing. The electric shower is burning hot or cold and need replacing. But there is note from Sally in the shower warning people about it and that they are aware it needs replacing. My only other complaint is the noisy alarm from the railway crossing gates that spoils the tranquility of the site. But nothing can be done about that.

From the manager: Thanks very much for staying for one night on the electric hookup pitch. Thanks for your critique.

Re your comments about the play area, the big trampoline has now gone… It’s had a lot of use of the years! The little play house will be removed at the end of this season. We are not likely to replace it. The tree swings are all relatively new!

We are awaiting for a reliable plumber to fit a replacement shower unit. Hopefully end of the week! 🤞

The railway crossing is a good thing as it provides a train service to & from Ipswich to Lowestoft. Lots of guests arrive by train and walk or bike here from Brampton station (1.5mi) away). The last train comes through at 10.30pm and we hardly notice the 2min alarms during the day.

This is a small, back to basics campsite for robust campers. We recommend guests to use this as a base and go out and about to explore & enjoy the local area. There’s several fantastic market towns, wildlife reserves and beaches nearby to visit during the day.

This is real, rural, farming area. Guests who are particularly sensitive to noises should bring earplugs maybe?

Regards,
Sally

Liked I had an absolutely fantastic stay at Sunnyside Campsite! The facilities are excellent – everything is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully set up to make your time here as comfortable as possible. The location itself is beautiful, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the surroundings. What really stood out to me was how much there is to do – whether you want to explore the area or simply unwind, there’s something for everyone. It’s a lovely place with a really welcoming atmosphere, and I’d highly recommend Sunnyside to anyone looking for a great camping experience

Liked Great little site with quirky facilities which were kept immaculately clean, and honesty shop for essentials (and homemade cake!).
Dog walks from the site and plenty of cycle ride options. Lovely community owned pub 4 minutes walk away.

Disliked Only one shower which may be frustrating at high season.

Liked ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

We had a wonderful stay at Sunnyside Campsite. From the moment we arrived, the owner Sally was so lovely and helpful. The site itself is peaceful, open yet secluded, and beautifully sheltered with stunning views.

Facilities were spotless – clean showers and toilets – plus a little play park for children. We loved the small on-site stall with logs, biscuits, local info, and even a delicious homemade Victoria sponge cake.

We stayed as a couple with our dog, and it was perfect. Just a 7-minute walk took us to the local community pub, which was so welcoming, dog-friendly, and served great food. It even had WiFi, darts, and a large park with a football pitch next door. Staff there were just as kind and friendly.

Overall, Sunnyside is a beautiful little hidden gem – peaceful, well looked after, and with such a warm, personal touch from Sally. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely be back!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked A very laid-back experience for 5 of us in 3 x motorhomes, who thoroughly enjoyed our stay for a couple of days. We even coped with all the rain/drizzle, the very 'traditional', but highly efficient, bathroom arrangements - and the free running chickens closely inspecting our every move!

Local attractions

The sandy beach at Southwold (20 minutes) is dominated by the white bulk of the 19th-century Southwold Lighthouse and lined by colourful wooden huts. Stroll along the long pier, stopping for ice cream or fish and chips, then head into town and the Southwold Museum for a primer on local history. With their reed-lined ponds and shallow lagoons, the marshes of RSPB Minsmere (30 minutes) are home to avocets, curlews and marsh harriers – plus the occasional (but elusive) otter. Just up the coast from there, National Trust - Dunwich Heath and Beach becomes a colourful riot of purple heather in the summer. The tall spire of the cathedral in Norwich (45 minutes) is visible from far and wide. Explore the interior of this splendid 11th-century church, strolling through the cloisters and the choir, where (if you’re lucky) you might meet Budge, the cathedral cat. The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell explores the history of the area.
