General

  • Quiet forest site with equestrian centre and stables
  • A 20-minute drive from Bury St Edmunds and an hour from the coast
  • Next door to forest, West Stow Country Park and Anglo-Saxon village

Don’t leave the horse behind when you take a holiday: quarter your steed alongside your good self in the Suffolk countryside at King’s Forest Caravan Park.

A couple of minutes’ drive from the village of West Stow, this peaceful adults-only site is surrounded by the mixed woods of Kings Forest and West Stow Country Park, where trails for walkers, bikers and horse riders wind through an ancient landscape of heath and lake alongside the River Lark.

Part of a working farm and equestrian centre, Kings Forest Caravan Park has stable facilities for visiting horses, and there’s coaching in dressage and equine behaviour if you and four-hoofed friend need a refresher course. The adjacent forest and the surrounding Suffolk countryside make cracking turf for hacking across too. They’re just as good for walking and pedalling, and with direct access to the forest, woodland wanderings and wildlife encounters are close to hand; look out for fallow deer, wild foxgloves and kestrels swooping overhead.

The peace and quiet are highly prized out here, and the proprietors ask everyone to kindly keep it down after 10pm… the horses need their beauty sleep...

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your visit to Kings Forest Caravan Park did not meet your expectations.
We have duly noted your comments and would like to just let you know that during the winter closed season another wash basin is being added to the Gents showers, unfortunately we cannot add another shower to the existing two for the time being.

There are 4 water taps on the Caravan Park, two outside the shower pavilion, one on the opposite fence and also one in the non-electric side where you were pitched, perhaps you were not aware of them all.

Hope to see you another time.
Best wishes
Jane & Leigh

Great location for a easy gateway, surrounded by beautiful scenery, wildlife and history around the site.

The site and facilities are very clean and spacious, owners were friends, helpful and polite.

Ground is flat and soft, perfect for tent pitches and maneuvering caravans.

We really enjoyed our stay and despite not being far from home, we will certainly visit again.

Highly delighted with this site. Lovely spacious flat pitches, peaceful, nice location and the facilities were excellent. This is a adults only site and the owners were very helpful and friendly, were given a information sheet with all the places of interest along with places to eat.
We had our cockapoo with us and The Kings Forest was on the edge of the site with miles and miles of lovely walking routes with stunning views. Across the road was the Anglo Saxon Village which also allowed dogs with lovely walks around a lake.
The site itself is a working Equestrian farm and was lovely to wake up to beautiful horse's along side the pitches.
The toilets and shower blocks were spotless, the added bonus for me was the Wooden Shower Mats which allowed you to dry your feet without having to stand on the wet floor (Fantastic). Also the Antibacterial hand sanitizer machine in each of the toilet cubicles.
Wifi was quite good, have stayed on many sites advertising Wifi with no signal at all, at least with this one did have a signal the majority of the time.
Also there was a laundry area, dish washing and chemical disposal.
Would definitely return, loved it and we had fab weather which was a bonus.

Local attractions

A walk away, West Stow Country Park is a top spot for Suffolk strolls and rides, with a pair of hides for birdwatching and whole platoons of wildlife gathering on the lake and along the River Lark. As an added bonus, there’s a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village where you can see how life was way back in the Dark Ages.

The ancient market town of Bury St Edmunds is 20 minutes’ drive away if you’re minded to continue the historical theme: medieval Moyse’s Hall is home to a fab museum, while Ickworth House, built in neoclassical style for the earls of Bristol, is like a little bit of Rome on the Fens. After that, head on to the half-timbered, brightly hued cottages of Lavenham or have a go at axe making at Grime’s Graves prehistoric flint mine; both are half an hour away.

There’s wildlife aplenty around here too, and trails to spot it at Cavenham Heath National Nature Reserve (15 minutes): blue tits and woodpeckers are often seen in the woods, while on the heath, lizards, adders and stone curlews flit around the remains of World War II defences.

More exotic residents can be met at Banham Zoo (40 minutes), from Bactrian camels to silvery marmosets and gelada baboons, and seals can sometimes be spotted from the cliffs and beach at Felixstowe, an hour away. Even without glimpses of its whiskered marine mammals, the seaside town makes a top day trip, with beach walks, harbour cruises and tours of 18th-century Landguard Fort finished off with fish and chips.

Must see
