  • Family-friendly Norfolk Broads site in 80 acres of country park
  • Watersports centre less than five minutes’ walk away
  • Play area and shop on site; café next door
Say Pah to the passport, avoid the airport and don’t go a-broad for a holiday overflowing with activities and attractions – go to the Norfolk Broads instead. There's a wide range of all-weather things to do around Whitlingham Broad Campsite once you’re there: the Broads are in its back garden with a watersports centre less than five minutes’ saunter from your pitch; the city of Norwich is an easy 15 minutes by bike or bus, and the site is in 80 acres of country park with masses of room for kids to run around and with a network of walks stretching directly from it. The site itself is entirely made of grass, but the country park landscape also takes in rivers, water meadows blooming with wildflowers, and wildlife-laden woodland with trees young and old. Sturdy (not disposable) barbecues are allowed on all pitches, and some firepits are available to hire from the Whitlingham team. Just steps away from the accommodation fields are the three large lakes of the Great, Little and Conservation Broads: take a canoe out here or fish, picnic and wildlife watch from the banks. The Outdoor Education Centre a few minutes’ walk away has kayak and dragonboat hire and sailing and surfing courses as well as landlubber activities like archery and rock climbing. Family washrooms are available at Whitlingham Broad for guests and other amenities include an onsite shop and play area. A café is right next door, but local companies will deliver to your pitch if you fancy a takeaway for dinner: ask the team for their broad list of recommendations…

Upper Meadow non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Well organised, can unload nearby then move the car - liked not having vehicles on the field, not over booked with lots of space for kids to play in middle, play area and woods are great, shop is really good, with all needs thought through, toilets, showers and washing facilities good.

Disliked: Minor fixes needed - toilet doors not locking. Family shower room door didn’t lock, unclear who/what bunting area with picnic benches are for - takes up space but wasn’t used. Can you camp next to it/in front of it?

From the manager: Good Morning Thank you for your review - we have checked and cannot find any problems with the loo doors - could you let us know which one you encountered a problem with - we can then look to rectify this? Any issues like this will be dealt with quickly so please report to reception on site - which is generally open 12 hours a day in peak season and right next to the loo block, and just a few seconds walk from all of our pitches. Staff are also available by phone from 7am - 11pm . The area with benches is for the new cabins - while the wildflowers grow up around them we are giving these accommodation a dedicated space. there is still a huge amount of space on our meadow for you to choose from as we never overcrowd the pitches - and suring this weekend we were also very quiet on site When checking in we always let guests know where to they can camp and offer advise on the best spots. To avoid excessive signage on site - staff are always around so do please direct any questions like this to them while on site - We are more than happy to help ! We are glad to hear you had a wonderful stay - any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us by email info@whitlinghambroadcampsite.com

Upper Meadow non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The ease of checking in, not only a day early, but at an out-of-hours time. Spotless showers and toilets. Friendly and helpful staff.

Disliked: More stringent control and signage is required to have dogs on a lead at all times and for dog owners to pickup all their dog poo. Loose wire-mesh non-slip surface on wooden bridge is worn and has become a trip hazard. A non-slip floor paint would be a suitable upgrade.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good Morning Thank you for your review The wire on the bridge has now been fully replaced - thanks for highlighting this. we do ask all dog owners to keep control of their dogs, not wishing to overcrowd with signs so our beautiful location remains just that! We will continue to monitor this and any unruly owners will be spoken to We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay

Liked: perfect setting, children were able to run freely with a nicely blended play area. You could have a firepit at night and it was quiet at night. Well stocked shop with public bikes to hire nearby. Super clean washing facilities. We plan to come back.

Lower Meadow non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The campsite was quiet, not very big, beautiful natural surroundings, close to a beautiful lake. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet/shower room and generally the site is pretty accessible and the staff are friendly.

Disliked: When the bark path was wet after raining my wheelchair got stuck which was quite stressful. If you’re a wheelchair user I suggest you stay on the grass instead and avoid the bark path if it’s been raining. This was only a minor downside and otherwise we had a lovely stay with good accessibility.

Local attractions

Sticking to the Broads – just to start with – you’ll have the pick of waterside walks, watersports, cycling and wildlife spotting on the Whitlingham Broad doorstep. The café next to the campsite has a visitor centre with interactive info on the Broads to help you narrow things down a bit, and you can also catch the river boat here into Norwich city centre. For something a little more unusual, a ski club is a smooth 10 minutes away. Walks with a view are all around the site and within easy dandering distance: kids might like to monkey around on the child-friendly low ropes course through the nearby woods, in a spot where there’s also a play pirate ship to batten down the hatches at and an old lime kiln to have a peek at (be careful not to disturb the bats that roost there). The Wherryman’s Way path along the Yare in the Yare Valley is also a very good walk (and ends at a very good pub); the 12 circular walks along its route are handy for those who don’t fancy following it all the 35 miles to Great Yarmouth.
