Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping: Ariel view of Springfields Countryside Caravan and camping taken April 2021

General

  • Green and serene site in the spectacular Staffordshire Moorlands
  • Alton Towers within a 20-minute drive and 30 to the Peak District
  • 3.5 acres of open fields, five minutes from restaurants and pubs

For rollercoasters and roams alike, head off on a hol to Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping, a 3.5-acre site with a large open field for playing in off a peaceful lane with hilly views. It’s less than a 20-minute drive to the rides at Alton Towers, 15 minutes to the city of Stoke-on-Trent and 200 metres from the main road… but the spectacular Staffordshire Moorlands surrounds mean you wouldn’t have a clue that it's all so close by.

Tear yourself away from the vistas and ponder eats: they’re varied in the local area, with pubs and restaurants as well as Indian and Chinese takeaways five minutes away by car. In charge of cooking? The supermarkets of Cheadle are your spots to stock up less than a 10-minute drive up the road.

Once you’ve got your meals sorted, you could be skirting the edges of the glorious Peak District National Park in half an hour, ready to roam around traditional market towns like Buxton Spa.

Other typically English things to do in this area include perusing the pottery at the popular Wedgewood Museum at World of Wedgewood (15 minutes’ drive) and Gladstone Pottery Museum (10 minutes) or riding the working steam Foxfield Light Railway and the Churnet Valley Railway (10 and 15 minutes away). Alternatively, you can make like you’re in Milan by having a gander at the Italian-style Trentham Gardens about 20 minutes down the road.

As is fitting for such a countryside setting, barbecues and campfires are permitted on site, and there's a washing-up area to aid with the cleanup mission. Also on site are toilets and showers revamped for the 2020 season.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 30/09/2021.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The views were stunning and it was very close to local amenities. Alton towers was only 20 minutes away which was a very pleasant drive. The facilities on sight were all that you could need when going camping/caravnning. The showers were nice and warm and you really couldn’t complain.
The pictches are a fantastic size and I love the way the boundaries are formed naturally by keeping the grass long between each pitch. Fire pits provided for free for each pitch with wood and firefighters available to purchase on sight. The wood you can buy on sight burns quite fast so I would recommend bringing some big logs if you want a fire.

Paul was super friendly and welcoming and allowed us to choose whichever pitch we wanted. He even treated us to a free bag of wood and firefighters as he knew we were on a mini moon trip.

I would definitely stay here again and bring our children as it feels very safe and with it being quite small, you can keep an eye on the kids easily

    Disliked:

Nothing to complain about really. Although the views are stunning you can still here the busy main road in the distance so I wouldn’t call this sight remote and peaceful. I didn’t bother us though as we live on a main road normally plus we were in a caravan so couldn’t hear anything at night in there

The size of the pitch was great lots of room and not too close to anyone and fairly level. Water pipe on the pitch, didn’t have to walk a long way. Toilet block lovely and clean. Pitches kept tidy and cut. Fire pits provided and wood available. Views across valley were fantastic. Had a lovely stay.

    Disliked:

Not exclusive to this site but why are the mirrors in the ladies so high? I am only 5 feet small and you could not even see the top of my head. Taller people could stand mirrors lower down I am sure. My dad was taller than the rest of the family but he always placed mirrors optimum for him.

Staff were very helpful, site was tidy and quiet, toilet/shower block was clean. Excellent toilet roll in the lois as well, which is a wee thing that makes a big difference.

    Disliked:

Lights in the toilet block were left on all night, and all windows and doors were left open. This meant that it was always teeming with insects, particularly daddy long legs. I counted 21 in there on one visit. This made my shower on the first day quiet uncomfortable as I tried to avoid them flying about or they were washed onto the floor of the shower (which the drain of which overflowed after a couple of minutes). I didn't have a shower the second day because of this.
No laundry facilities and no waste disposal facilities.
Overall I was a bit disappointed given the number of 5 star reviews here and on Google.

From the manager...

Hi Ryan. We thank you for the positive comments but we would like to address your not so positive points. The reason for the toilet/shower block windows and doors being deliberately left open is to allow continuous fresh air to circulate the buildings as a precaution against the Covid virus. It was unfortunate that your stay at Springfields coincided with the daddy long leg season but a few friendly bugs flying around is far safer than any possibility of the Covid bug being around. The lights are left on because the location of the facilities is in a very dark part of the campsite and is potentially dangerous if you can't see where you are walking. You also comment that we don't have a laundry or waste disposal. We can only surmise that you have previously stayed at much larger sites than ours. We are a small friendly Countryside campsite without any frills or fancy facilities but what we do have is clean and respectable and the vast majority of our very many guests seem to like the campsite exactly as it is.
Regards from the Springfields staff.

Directions

Caravans and motorhomes should always approach the site from the A521 Draycott Road, turning into Breach Lane, where you will find the site 200 metres down the lane. Approaching from the A522 is not recommended as it involves driving along a mile of narrow single-track road and a difficult turn into the site entrance.

Local attractions

Whether you’re up for browsing the racks, meeting monkeys or taking on treetop adventures, Trentham Estate (20 minutes’ drive) is the place to go: this one-stop complex set around an old manor house has a shopping village, apes and a rope-based expedition course through the forest.

Rather watch the horses or bike racing than rush about in the woods? Uttoxeter Racecourse is 20 minutes away from Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping, while the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club is reachable in half an hour.

For calmer times, the stunning Dove Dale Stepping Stones and Thorpe Cloud – a limestone hill with views out over the Midland plain – are 20 minutes from the park for riverside and mountain walks. Or maybe try a bit of fishing? Blake Hall Fisheries (10 minutes' drive) sells day tickets for its three well-stocked lakes.
