Canal boats in the marina

  • Peaceful 20-acre marina location in the Staffordshire countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Lichfield; 20 minutes to Drayton Manor Theme Park
  • Barbecues and picnic tables provided; short walk to a dog-friendly pub
Whether it’s picnics looking out over the marina or lazy mornings walking along the Coventry Canal, there’s plenty of scope for peaceful activities at Kings Orchard Marina in the middle of the Staffordshire countryside. This is a pretty marina location with 20 acres of space, all landscaped and maintained to a high standard, with a marina basin for views and a canal, narrowboat hire and local pub 10 minutes’ walk away. For any keen explorers, the icing on the cake might be that historic Lichfield is 10 minutes’ drive to the west. That means you can explore the medieval city’s 12th-century cathedral, market square and the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum by day before heading back in the evening to use the site’s food prep area to build a barbecue spread on the grills provided. Handily, there's a food shop under five minutes' drive away. The free-to-use barbecues and picnic tables dotted around the site are useful facilities for those quality times. As for features of convenience, Kings Orchard Marina also has toilets, showers, waste disposal and an Elsan unit. With the Staffordshire countryside on all sides, walk to your heart’s content, but don’t forget that real ales, traditional pub fare and a beer garden await at the local dog-friendly country pub alongside the Coventry Canal. This place, 10 minutes’ walk away, is a good spot for those of you who have brought dogs on your holiday.

What customers say

This peaceful canalside campsite offers spacious, level pitches with convenient water and electric hook-ups. Located by a marina with pleasant walks, it's a short distance to a local pub. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are usually clean, though some guests note they are a fair distance from pitches and could benefit from updating. WiFi can be intermittent. The approach road has numerous potholes.

Non-electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Staff were friendly
Location to Lichfiled was great
Pitches were clear and clean
Directions were clear
Plenty of bins

Disliked Check in times state 2pm to 5pm, rushed to get there for 5pm but it didnt seem to matter as we got a text anyway and others turned up much later.
Bit overpriced for what it was.
Quite a run down marina.
Showers/toilet not seperated so trying to get access to a toilet in the morning when everyone is showering was a pain.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Peaceful

Disliked Not enough information given on arrival not very helpful receptionist, when we found our pitch after being given wrong directions we expected a fully serviced pitch that we had paid for, (ehu water and grey water waste) it was impossible to find the grey water waste drain on our pitch, the showers and toilets are shared by campers and boaters so not enough to cater for all, showers and toilets are a long way from the pitches. The Elson point was dirty with a hose that dangled in the bowl. All in all not worth the money that we paid, I have stayed in better CL sites and paid less.

Non-electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Consistently clean washrooms
Good value for money

Disliked Lighting still not fixed on walkways from non-electric pitches to washrooms. Only one of eleven lights functioning and that one is only solar powered. All the ten main's powered ones are damaged and not working and have been for some time

Non-electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Nice peaceful site. We live fairly local, just wanted a local getaway. No electric hook up needed. Would go again.

Disliked Didn't use the facilities so can't comment on them as I used the motorhome

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Location.
Narrow boats at the marina.
The trees between the pitches.

Disliked Huge gravel stones which meant getting awning up was difficult.
Constant noise from road and railway line.
Only 2 toilets and showers, constantly busy.
Felt very unsafe with leaving items at the pitch while we went out. Stayed 1 night out of the 2.
Lots of rude people around that owned narrow boats. We didn’t feel welcome.

We had access to our own water and electric but couldn’t find the waste water.

Not very disabled friendly.

No real lighting around the area.

Local attractions

Other historical detours could include a visit to The Staffordshire Regiment Museum (10 minutes), a military museum, or the 150-acre National Memorial Arboretum (10 minutes). Outdoor activities on the mind? There’s a brief stroll around The Green Fairy Woods (10 minutes), great for kids, or miniature golf, sports courts, nature trails and play areas around Beacon Park (10 minutes). SnowDome (15 minutes) runs skiing, snowboarding and ice skating sessions or lessons. Meanwhile, Go Ape courses, bike rides and walks are a staple in the Cannock Chase District (20 minutes).
