General

  • Small peaceful site in scenic surroundings
  • Miles of quiet, flat country lanes to explore by bike
  • Dog-walking area and 1940s vintage bikes for hire

Located in a peaceful and remote location in Whixall, Abbey Green Farm is a small family-run site set in the countryside for peace and relaxation.

The farm is a short drive from Wem (three miles away) and Whitchurch (seven miles away), making it a handy base for cycling, walking and exploring the Shropshire countryside. The grounds have scenic gardens as well as a large area for walking dogs. Cream teas are served in the gardens for an additional charge.

Abbey Green has clean toilets, free hot showers in a newly-built luxury shower block, a laundry room and a new indoor washing-up area. There are also a number of vintage 1940s restored bicycles for hire, and new play equipment for kids was added in 2017.

The site is two miles from the popular Dog and Bull pub serving tasty food and a good selection of ales.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

All campers must bring their own electric hook-up leads.

I booked this campsite as it was close to an event I was attending nearby. Travelling as a young solo female for the first time it was a bit of a nerve-wracking experience, but the hosts made me feel more than welcome and were very friendly. I was given a lovely pitch and was even offered a under cover space to park my motorcycle. The facilities were top notch and kept to a great standard.

It isn't often I use the word idyllic, however it's the best word to describe Abbey Green. It's a small site with 11 pitches and as we went late in the season was almost empty, so we had plenty of space.

The toilet facilities were as good as any I've seen and were absolutely spotless.

The high spot for us was the totally delicious afternoon tea that was served to our caravan on our last afternoon, beautifully presented and totally delicious, very reasonably priced and worth every penny!

Ideally situated for visiting the local area and well off the beaten track on surprisingly good single track roads, it was rare to meet any other traffic and with the lack of town light pollution the stars in the night sky were magnificent.

The owners were friendly and obliging and made us feel very welcome. The site is sloped so levellers are required but the drainage is excellent and despite a night of very heavy rain the ground didn't get heavy

    Disliked:

There really wasn't anything to dislike. I probably wouldn't stay there in peak season as with only two toilets and with a small site I think it would get a bit crowded, but that's only personal preference.

The rule of thumb is always, would we stay there again and the answer to that is a resounding yes!

OMG,if I could give this site an extra excellent mark I would its a total gem.The owners Phil and Rose cannot do enough for you.We were trying out a porch awning and I was struggling a bit Phil saw this and came over and helped me,in fact he put it up.On the 4th day of our stay we had one of Roses cream teas it was to die for.We had one of our grandchildren with us and over the weekend more families arrived I was amazed to see so many kids playing so well together.I honestly could not find any fault at all with this site.Cant wait to return.Oh added bonus if you are on EE or three no signal result!

The very friendly & accomodating couple who own the farm
It was like home from home with the breakfast cobs and the lovely afternoon tea
Which they provide on request. A wonderful small site.

    Disliked:

The pitches weren't level as the grass around it is very long & also the pitches were very close together but that didn't bother us.

Lovely site - quiet and off the beaten track. The lane to the site is a single track so you need to watch for oncoming vehicles. However it does seem to be a quiet road and we only met 1 vehicle when we were coming and going to the site during our 4 day visit. There is a lovely play area for children, a recent addition. We found the site very good value for money. It is well cared for with the owners very eager to make you welcome.

    Disliked:

The 2 toilets and 2 showers are beautiful and kept spotlessly clean but because they are together as bathrooms it could cause a problem in a morning if the site is busy and they are both being used for showers and you are waiting to use the loo. This wouldn't put us off using the site tho'. We'll just try and go at quite times of the year.

Everything about this site is just perfect, from the welcoming hosts, Rose and Phillip to the tranquil settings. It is set down quiet country roads, away from the hustle and bustle of life. The site is spotlessley clean and well kept. There is a small childrens play area. It is a small campsite, perfect if you like tranquil peaceful sites that are not too busy. What sold me on this site was the fact that unlike other campsites, it has an unusual feature of two home from home bathrooms. A shower, lavatory and wash basin in its own room. Decorated very pretty and always clean. I am extremely fussy about toilet areas especially where the public use them, but I had no worries here at all.The pot washing area is a small "real" home from home sink with draining board, and there is a washer which I believe is available for a small charge. You have an option to order home made bread, and afternoon cream teas. I would highly recommend both. The bread was crusty on the outer and so soft inside, and the cream teas were so filling we could not eat it all. The site has wifi which pleased our grandaughter no end, as she is internet crazy. I popped photos and videos of the site onto my Facebook page whilst there and so many great comments were made. My sister in law even said she wanted to visit urgently but the site gets booked up very early so we are going to visit again around Easter next year. I would have liked to upload my photos onto here for you to view but pitchup.com are saying the photos are too small. I am not sure how to correct this which is a shame as I would have loved to share these with you.Cannot wait to return

    Disliked:

Fabulous welcome and guided walk around the site to explain all the facilities. Very clean toilet/shower block. Fabulous location for peace and beautiful surroundings. Great little park for kids within view from our camper.

    Disliked:

Lights turning off mid shower due to them being on timer. Discovered poking hand out of curtain and waving it about luckily hit the right spot to reactivate.
Couldnt get the code to work for free wifi but when i mentioned to host as we left she couldnt apologise more. A fellow camper had reconfigured it and not shared the new password. Issue resolved for future campers.
