General

  • Small peaceful site with vintage English vibe
  • A 20-minute drive from the Meres and 45 minutes from Wenlock Edge
  • Vintage bikes for hire; afternoon teas and barbecues allowed

Fancy a vintage voyage? Then pull on your gaiters, set your pipe firmly between your teeth and pedal off towards Abbey Green Farm, a peaceful site in the unchanging Shropshire countryside: they’ll even rent you a 1940s bicycle so you can explore it in proper style.

Adding to the stillness, the well-tended and classically English gardens attract a variety of birds and insects to the site: how about taking it all in over afternoon tea, served on the farm terrace surrounded by Shropshire countryside...?

Other foodie options include breakfasts or bacon and egg rolls for guests every morning; if you have an urge for DIY dining, barbecues are allowed on site and there are shops and supermarkets in nearby Wem and Whitchurch, 10 and 20 minutes’ drive away. Alternatively, get your best tweed knickerbockers on and cycle the two miles to the Dog and Bull pub for local ales and hot fresh food.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

All campers must bring their own electric hook-up leads.

The small campsite in total it looked like there were only 6 pitches.
The family run campsite which offered a warm welcome.
The playground area although not to big offered enough for our children aged 7 and 9 years. There was also additional outdoor games which you could borrow.
Overall, a lovely relaxed and small campsite which we all enjoyed staying at and hope to return to.

Clean facilities, the owners were friendly and accommodating, remote location, peaceful and flat grass to pitch on. Lots of information on the site of things to do locally. Nice option of being able to order food to the tent.

    Disliked:

Late check in time. Would be nice for the check in time to be earlier with two under two without incurring a charge.

Beautiful little campsite, a true hidden gem! Facilities were the nicest/cleanest we’ve seen. There were only a handful of pitches which meant it was a nice quiet stay, yet the pitches weren’t small, so you didn’t feel jammed-in. There was a small children’s play area and a few outdoor toys available too, which was perfect for our young boys (ages 6 and 3).

    Disliked:

Honestly the only thing which would improve it would be the availability of a freezer for ice packs etc, but this wasn’t really an issue so much as it would just be a “nice to have”.

From the manager...

We have made some improvements to the pitch sizes this year and we are getting some great feedback by doing this.
We do have the ability to freeze ice packs etc upon request.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Local attractions

Whixall Nature Reserve a 20-minute drive away is one of the last few lowland raised bogs left in the British Isles and as such it’s home to a menagerie of birdlife along with some rather prehistoric sights, such as carnivorous sundew, adders (wear your boots) and six-inch water-skating raft spiders.

The nearby Meres, lakes and wetlands formed at the end of the Ice Age are all between 20 and 25 minutes away and make for fine walks and nature spotting: birdwatchers come from all over the country to Wood Lane Nature Reserve, next to Ellesmere to spot avocets, lapwings and sandpipers.

For bigger walks and climbs, it’s 45 minutes to Wenlock Edge, where you can also add a spot of Segway, quad biking and zipwire traversing to your hiking itinerary, and around an hour to the Shropshire Hills' Carding Mill Valley, for yomps up heather-blanketed slopes, waterfalls and views towards the Black Mountains.

Alternatively, report to Llangollen (45 minutes) for rides on the steam railway and down the canal, and it's a similar distance to walk the ‘stream in the sky’, otherwise known as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. If you’re more into country piles, visit the eccentric tangle of statues, grottoes, bridges and tunnels created by various owners of Hawkstone Park Follies (15 minutes), or wander the 640 acres of country surrounding 18th-century Attingham Park, dotted with Iron Age and Roman ruins, half an hour away.

Must see

  • Darby Houses (Ironbridge) (32.4 kilometers)
  • Blists Hill Victorian Town (32.8 kilometers)
  • Ironbridge Gorge Museums (33.7 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Attingham Park (23.8 kilometers)
  • Chirk Castle (24.3 kilometers)
