Woods by dog walking field

  • Peaceful and friendly site in the Shropshire Hills
  • Walkers' paradise with many strolls and hikes close by
  • Animals to meet on site; eggs and meat available to buy
Bring those boots made for walking, for you'll be hungry for the hikes around Shropshire's Teds Farm Camping. Based in Sheriffhales, about four miles from Telford, this peaceful, friendly and popular little site is in land where walks are all around, meandering for miles through the wildlife havens of the green Shropshire countryside. Ted's is a smallholding, with grass pitches on a gently sloping field looking out over the surrounding Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Chickens and ducks wander the site – the kids are welcome to say hi or go and meet some of the menagerie at the animal paddock – and free-range eggs and fresh meat are usually available for sale. They can also go to play at the park, where there's Ted's Tractor alongside swings, slides, interactive games, climbing walls and bridges. Among the well-maintained amenities are showers and toilets, chemical disposal points and facilities for charging and recycling. There's easy access from the site to Sheriffhales village, just off the main A5.

What customers say

This peaceful countryside campsite is praised for its clean, well-maintained facilities and spacious pitches. Owners are frequently described as friendly, helpful, and welcoming, with particular mention of a well-stocked farm shop. While some noted the shower cubicles are small and there's a lack of nearby amenities requiring a drive, the site is highly recommended for its relaxing atmosphere and beautiful views, with many guests planning return visits.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site was very spacious, well groomed and clearly looked after with pride. The new kids area was wonderful and of a high quality.

The lady who we interacted with on arrival and in the shop was lovely and very welcoming. The shop was well stocked and reasonably priced which meant we actually bought our supplies from them instead of spending money at a supermarket. The wine selection was very well chosen and not cheap rubbish, once again reasonably priced. The strawberries were delicious and sweet and £3 a punnet.

Disliked Only 2 things really which means that this site isn't a 10 from me.

The toilets and showers are too small in size and too few in number, however is clean and well looked after. There is a notice inside from the owners acknowledging it and that they are working with their planning advisor to expand their facilities.

The second thing might be because I am a grumpy man, but on our second night one of the statics on site seemed to be hosting a DJ and significant number of people that were not respectful of the 10pm cut off. The tunes were rubbish as well.

The first issue would make me consider coming back again, however the second is only a minor grumble. If these are sorted it would be a 10/10 for a quiet family escape in some beautiful countryside.

From the manager: Thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to write a review.

All of our guests kindly followed the 10pm noise curfew. The music on the Sunday night was actually a neighbor having a Bank Holiday party for friends and family, so out of our sound patrol control. It's not a regular thing but people in the area do like to have a party from time to time.

Hopefully we will have a good update on the loos/showers soon..... watch this space.

Thanks again Liz, Dave and Erica

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked This site is in a beautiful location and is blessed with excellent friendly staff/owners, a great shop/reception and a lovely play area for the children. It is well placed for several local attractions, is clean and tidy and is a gem in the making. It is at the moment more tilted towards tents, but there are 8 fully serviced hardstanding pitches that are very well presented. The layout would suggest that the intention is to develop more over time.

Disliked The elephant in the room here is the facilities. No problem can be found with the cleanliness and it is important that people know that the facilities are very clean. The issue is that for a site which attracts many tenters, who rely on site facilities, there are simply too few toilets and showers to cope with the amount of users. We stayed over a bank holiday weekend, and quickly decided to use our own on board facilities rather than add to the problem. The toilets and showers were overwhelmed by numbers, and it is to the owners credit that they stayed clean. My partner found the electric showers low on water pressure which caused the shower to swing from cold to scalding and then a dribble of water. In fairness, there are notices which address the shortcomings and hint at further improvement, but the time is now. There is also a need for extra water points around the site, as many campers headed for the taps on the serviced pitches, rather than head to the tap outside the toilet/shower cabin. I had no problem with this because who would make it difficult for someone to get water in 30° temps, not me. I hope my comments are seen as constructive because this is a lovely site, but desperately needs more toilets/showers and water points, and if possible a motorhome service point.

From the manager: Thank for taking the time to write a review. It sounds like you did enjoy some parts of your stay.

We do have another 8 hard standing pitches coming at the end of this year but we definitely get plenty of campers and caravans on the grass pitches over the summer, it was about 50% tents on the bank holiday weekend.

The facilities are definitely not an elephant in the room, we are very open about the size (and quantity) of them and as you mentioned we have updates on the site to keep guests informed on progress, guest reviews, like yours, also mention them.

Sorry if you were disturbed on your serviced pitch. we do have several fresh water taps around the site, but to be honest in that heat wave we could have done with one on every pitch and a swimming pool!

Keep an eye on our mailouts for updates on future development at Teds!

Hope to see you again Liz, Dave and Erica

Electric grass pitch

Liked Warm welcome when we arrived, shown where our pitch was. Excellent farm shop on site. Great play area for children and a large field for ball games.

Disliked The toilets were spotless but planning permission is being requested to update them and this is needed when the campsite is full. So not really a dislike but the campsite will be 100% with a new toilet block

Local attractions

As you'll have brought your sturdy boots, stride out into the Shropshire Hills National Landscape in any direction for green countryside and wildlife haven walks, or drive in the Telford direction for a woodland wander around Wrekin Forest. Striding around establishments is also a topping option when on holiday in any locale, so check out the craft and antique shops, tearooms and pubs, grocers and butchers of the region's market towns like Ellesmere, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth. Set in the centre of Shropshire on the River Severn, the Tudor town of Shrewsbury is also well worth a wander, for more shopping (but of course), Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle, the museum and art gallery, town centre park and – if you're in town in mid-August – the famed Shrewsbury Flower Show. Also around in Shropshire and its surrounds are award-winning museums, lushly green gardens, farms and abbeys, historic houses managed by the National Trust and English Heritage, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, about 20 minutes' drive from Teds Farm Camping.
