The pretty surroundings and walking area. The friendly owner.

    Disliked:

The pitch wasn't very private people walking straight past our window. The toilet and shower cubicles were out of use so had to use one in the sort of office area which had no lock on and when we went to use it the power was out so couldn't get it working anyway! We popped to the town and when we came back there were people trying to tow a campervan on to the pitch so we had to wait about 20 minutes before we could set up again. The noise outside was very loud as work was going on and woke me up early. Wasn't very peaceful. Was way overpriced for what it was.

Excellent stay that was everything we wanted. We arranged a fishing lesson for my lad with AJ who was brilliant and very kind and helpful. We caught 5 different types of fish and my lad was stoked.
We did a walk on the Shropshire way, went out for evening meals and snacked in the cabin (boys heaven). The log fire on both nights with giant toasted mallows was a memory forever.
We did a driving lesson on the main private land field that was empty thanks to Richard. All in a fantastic two night boys time holiday :-)
The hut had power, lights, usb socket, kettle, toilet and sink, storage and beds. This was more than cosy for us. The shower was just across the road.
This was our first time ‘glamping’ And I would highly recommend it for absolute quality family time.

Thank you for your review, pleased that you enjoyed your stay apart from the weather. Hope you will visit again and that the next time there will be better weather - sadly something you cannot guarantee in England .

Beautiful campsite! 18/09/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Daniel T. Confirmed

  • Liked:

    The scenery is absolutely beautiful!
Good choice of wild pitches, though unfortunately the recent weather waterlogged most of them. That said, we found a beautiful pitch.
The fire pit (and ability to use them in the woods sites) was good.
    The owners were friendly.
The toilet/shower facilities were as to be expected: simple but usable.

I don't usually double dip with campsites, but I might have to make my first exception! We got a wild site next to one of the fishing lakes, with woods behind our tent, which was fantastic.

    Disliked:

There was no toilet paper in the toilets, but we brought some anyway as we assumed that might be the case. This just just a warning/reminder to future campers!

From the manager...

Thank you for your review - another visit? lets hope so - wild camping perhaps - expect you would thoroughly enjoy it. We have had some awful wet weather not the best summer on record

Only 1 shower that ran cold and needed regular cleaning

Ok for people who enjoy hard-core camping

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, we are pleased that you liked the location and the views. we acknowledge that our facilities do need improving and we need more toilets. We were not aware that the shower was running cold and the problem with the shower not draining properly was because one of our guests decided it would be a good idea to put a stick down the outlet. Once the stick was removed the water was able to flow easily which naturally kept it cleaner. Our facilities are serviced regularly and in the future there will be improvements.

Local attractions

This is spectacular countryside, in a highly scenic setting with easy access to peaceful ambles, quiet cycles and historic houses, castles and museums. The heather-covered hills of wildlife haven Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd are close by to mountain bike and hike among smashing views of the Shropshire Hills.

County town Shrewsbury is about 40 minutes' drive away, recommended by the Oaklands Leisure and Fishery crew as the birthplace of famed Salopian man Charles Darwin: take the Darwin Town Trail to investigate further. Also 40 minutes away are the Ironbridge museums including Blists Hill, all commemorating the Industrial Revolution and the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Geologists can rock out at Wenlock Edge, the limestone escarpment near Much Wenlock that's a Site of Special Scientific Interest, while anyone who fancies balloon rides over the Shropshire Hills or learning about hilly history should have at least a few hours at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.
