  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with three fishing lakes
  • Air rifle range and play area on site; firepits available to hire

Friendly and helpful owners Christine and Richard are determined to have the site set up just how guests would want it, and can provide a firepit, a basket of logs and kindling for the campfire.

Situated in a beautiful and quiet area. The woodland wild camp pitches were sheltered and very tranquil. Enjoyed a walk through Harton Hallow, a local nature reserve. The owner was very pleasant and up for a bit of chat which was nice. One recommendation I would make is the fire pits need lifted off the ground a touch, or alternatively holes in the bottom to allow airflow or they go out quickly. Great to have fire facilities, especially in October!

    Disliked:

Trees could have been cut down level with fence surrounding the hut so we had a completely clear view of the hills

Thank you for your review, we aim to keep the site as natural as it can be so the trees are staying as they are - sorry the lake view is stunning from the hut

Shropshire is a lovely part of Britain - often overlooked by holiday-makers as they speed through North or South to Cornwall or the Lake District, or on their way to Snowdonia or the Brecons - But a stay in this area is a good choice for those wanting a more laid back experience.

The borderlands between Wales and England has a rich history; criss crossed with Roman roads, Saxon trails, and dotted with Norman Castles and keeps. For those interested in tales of ancient Britain this area has a lot to offer.

The dramatic views from up on Long Mynd are fabulous - the ancient highways of old Britain are still there to be walked upon - steeped in mystery and ancient folklore of witches, stone circles and marauding cows.

Oaklands is an excellent base to journey from, nestled in the heart of the countryside, with the sharp escarpment of Wedlock Edge as it’s backdrop, some lovely lakes and acres of woodland, the site has a wealth of choice when it comes to camping spots.

We enjoyed ambling thought the nearby local woodland from Oaklands Campsite, up along Wenlock Edge and discovered a lovely little hidden garden nearby on our return...

The site is lovely, spacious, quiet and friendly. All the amenities as you would expect.

Stargazing was also a joy, we were lucky with big open clear skies when we stayed, with minimal light pollution.

    Disliked:

    Blisters.

From the manager...

Thank you for your great detailed review. Shropshire is a hidden diamond for visitors to explore. Our skies are dark and sine pollution has reduced we have noticed they are even darker which is great.

Also 40 minutes away are the Ironbridge museums including Blists Hill, all commemorating the Industrial Revolution and the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Geologists can rock out at Wenlock Edge, the limestone escarpment near Much Wenlock that's a Site of Special Scientific Interest, while anyone who fancies balloon rides over the Shropshire Hills or learning about hilly history should have at least a few hours at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.
