General

  • Small family-run site near Church Stretton
  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with fishing lake and pond
  • Firepit, logs and kindling available for guests

Retreat to Oaklands Leisure and Fishery for quiet midweek escapes or peaceful weekends away in spectacularly scenic surroundings among the south Shropshire hills, on a base for long woodland walks, countryside cycling and castle exploring.

And fishing: Oaklands has a two-acre lake well stocked with mirror and common carp up to 20lbs, and a three-quarters of an acre pool holding a mixed bag of mirror and common carp up to 7lbs, as well as a few trout up to 5lbs (if you catch one have it on the campfire for supper, for a cost of £10 per fish taken). The pool is a good spot for beginners and juniors; tuition is available on site subject to availability and if booked in advance.

Friendly and helpful owners Christine and Richard are determined to have the site set up just how guests would want it, and can provide a firepit, a basket of logs and kindling for the campfire.

The cleanly-kept amenities include toilets and two shower blocks and toilets; there's also a washing-up area, chemical disposal and the means to charge your electrical bits and bobs.

Absolutely Everything! In my opinion this is without doubt the nicest campsite ive been to. We were made to feel very welcome and wanted. the location is beautiful, the facility's were immaculate! The options are there to go fishing, visit the shooting range or even just a nice walk. I personally couldnt want for more! These guys tick every box in my eyes and should be very proud of what they have achieved.. i cannot praise this place enough and we will definitely be returning hopefully sooner rather than later :)

The lovely setting really with the meadow and the lake providing lots of interest for young kids. It was really safe with some good sensible rules and friendly staff that would sell you firewood at good rates. This part of Shropshire is gorgeous and it was a good base to hit Stoksey castle and Ludlow.

    Disliked:

It was a little hard to find - don't use the directions on the sat nav for the address find the actual site on google maps and select drive to here. The shower sucks. It was tepid and totally blocked and the solution seemed to be to use rags to soak up the overflow!!

From the manager...

Thank you for your review we do take the safety of our visitors as a priority, yes it is a lovely part of the county.

We do ask that people do not rely on their sat nav and we are pleased that you found us on google maps.

The shower has now been fixed it now drains and the temperature has been set as warm.

We home that you will visit again and explore more of our lovely county.

Best woodland camping ever 02/07/2018

The best campsite ever. We loved everything, nothing around which spoils the views, just basic facilities which is exactly what you want if you want to feel like wild camping. The possibility of making a fire in woodland is just tbe best and we can't wait to come again. This campsite is for nature lovers, not for moaning "campers' who need to have a bar and playroom on the site while camping.

    Disliked:

    Nothing

From the manager...

Thank you for rating us the best and for making all readers of these reviews that we are a basic but beautiful site.

Certainly no bar playroom just back to nature

Also 40 minutes away are the Ironbridge museums including Blists Hill, all commemorating the Industrial Revolution and the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Geologists can rock out at Wenlock Edge, the limestone escarpment near Much Wenlock that's a Site of Special Scientific Interest, while anyone who fancies balloon rides over the Shropshire Hills or learning about hilly history should have at least a few hours at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.
