General

  • Small family-run site near Church Stretton
  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with fishing lake and pond
  • Firepit, logs and kindling available for guests

Retreat to Oaklands Leisure and Fishery for quiet midweek escapes or peaceful weekends away in spectacularly scenic surroundings among the south Shropshire hills, on a base for long woodland walks, countryside cycling and castle exploring.

And fishing: Oaklands has a two-acre lake well stocked with mirror and common carp up to 20lbs, and a three-quarters of an acre pool holding a mixed bag of mirror and common carp up to 7lbs, as well as a few trout up to 5lbs (if you catch one have it on the campfire for supper, for a cost of £10 per fish taken). The pool is a good spot for beginners and juniors; tuition is available on site subject to availability and if booked in advance.

The site is set on 35 acres of fields, 10 minutes' drive from the popular and heathery hills of the Carding Mill Valley, and from the pubs, cafés, restaurants and supermarket of the local town of Church Stretton. It's dog friendly, but please don't allow your pets anywhere near the lakes.

Friendly and helpful owners Christine and Richard are determined to have the site set up just how guests would want it, and can provide a firepit, a basket of logs and kindling for the campfire.

The cleanly-kept amenities include toilets and two shower blocks and toilets; there's also a washing-up area, chemical disposal and the means to charge your electrical bits and bobs.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Great untouched outdoors site. Ideally located adjacent to fishing lake. Which is maturing really well with some really nice fish. The team really pride themselves on their fish husbandry let's hope all future anglers also respect their quarry as much. Always a warm welcome from everyone and this visit was no exception. With myself and my wife camping and fishing (she's hooked!) and my grown up son 24hrs fishing and bivvy it was a another great weekend away from the rat race. With the warmth of an open fire to see the darkness with the lake as a backdrop really set the scene. Until the peace was broken when asistance was required to help net one of the lakes resident Sturgeon. This visit we had the sole use of the lake as nobody else was fishing so couldn't have asked for more - brilliant!

Awesome sight with a great mix of pitch options and a really friendly feel. We missed the wood rounds as we were out for a walk and there were no complaints at all about driving back out to us.

Scenery stunning, great wild camping in the woods and has a true feel of a campsite outdoors people.

Highly recommend and we will be back.

Amazing. Very peaceful enjoying the wildlife ambience.
Most sensational views at night, turn 360 and you will see stars upon stars upon stars. Lake view from hut with ducks and birds a plenty. Saws some bunny's on the field to the back of the Hut. Toilets and shower located conveniently close, very clean (Bring own toilet paper).
Owners were really friendly, nice location, shops close drive away.
    Very relaxing.

Facilities, very, very basic toilet and shower facilities.
Field pitches - ground very uneven. Meadow pitches looked better, but not accessible for trailer tent.
Lots of dogs on site allowed to run off lead.

County town Shrewsbury is about 40 minutes' drive away, recommended by the Oaklands Leisure and Fishery crew as the birthplace of famed Salopian man Charles Darwin: take the Darwin Town Trail to investigate further. Also 40 minutes away are the Ironbridge museums including Blists Hill, all commemorating the Industrial Revolution and the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Geologists can rock out at Wenlock Edge, the limestone escarpment near Much Wenlock that's a Site of Special Scientific Interest, while anyone who fancies balloon rides over the Shropshire Hills or learning about hilly history should have at least a few hours at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.
