  • Small family-run site and fishery near Church Stretton in Shropshire
  • Ironbridge Valley of Invention half an hour’s drive; Ludlow 25 minutes
  • Three fishing ponds, an air-rifle range and playground on site
Retreat to Church Stretton Camp and Fish – an independently run campsite and fishery set in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape – for quiet escapes on long woodland walks or countryside bike rides. Set on 40 acres of meadows, woodland, brooks and lakes, it’s 10 minutes’ drive from pubs, restaurants and shops in Church Stretton, and heather-covered hills in the Carding Mill Valley. And don’t forget the fishing. The site has three fishing lakes suitable for any level of skill, well-stocked with multiple varieties of carp of 20lbs and above, as well as sturgeon, bream, perch, roach, trout and gudgeon. The on-site shop sells camping and fishing essentials (including bait); you can also hire rods and tuition is subject to availability. Even if you’re not a mad-keen angler, there’s plenty to do on site. Other sporty amenities include a wild-swimming lake, where you can also kayak or paddleboard, as well as a rifle range (with rifle hire). And kids can whizz around on electric quad bikes (hire charges apply), or run off energy on the trampoline, swings and slides in the play area. Modern amenities include several shower and toilet blocks (please note there is no hot water on site, apart from in the showers), water points and washing facilities. There is also a communal area for charging your devices. The friendly site owners actively encourage open fires. Free firepits are provided and you can buy firewood at competitive prices (please do not bring your own wood onto the site).

What customers say

This spacious, "nearly wild" campsite boasts woodland, lakeside, and meadow pitches. Friendly staff, clean (basic) facilities, and plenty of activities like fishing and quad biking are highlights. Some found tracks muddy and noted occasional toilet paper or hot water issues. A few felt the site needed a refresh and mentioned litter. Guests enjoyed the peaceful, natural vibe and plan to return.

Lakeside primitive grass tent campsite (medium)

Liked Beautiful setting, friendly atmosphere with helpful attentive staff… they go the extra mile to make sure that you’re enjoying your stay and have a great attitude for how they treat the site and its visitors - rules are sensible and are there to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, but not so restrictive as to not recognise that you should take responsibility for yourself! Facilities are basic but scrupulously clean especially for a wild(ish) camp. This is our second stay and we will definitely be booking again!!!

Lakeside primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked We stayed Lake side, the views were stunning, we had some nice walks around the woods and picked some wild blackberries. The extras likenthe freezer and the option for a hot shower if you wish is a nice touch. We also had a nice day fishing, thank you for the loan of your rods Chris. We will most definitely be back.

Disliked We caught no fish 🤣

Liked Loved the wild swimming and Country side is lovely. Family friendly lots of space for kids to runaround and make friends.

Disliked There's no enough warm showers. There's only one by reception which is quite a walk away from the woods there was one more half way to reception but no hot water.
