General

  • Just west of Ingoldmells and five miles Skegness
  • Pub and restaurant on site with a large choice of beers and wines
  • Family-friendly atmosphere and newly-renovated amenities

If you're off for the day to Ingoldmells, how about a huge English – or veggie – breakfast first before a 15-minute stroll into town? And then another stroll – or a taxi – back, for dinner and an evening's relaxing in a family-friendly pub and restaurant? Have a stay at friendly and welcoming The Kings Head, just west of Ingoldmells in the small town of Addlethorpe.

In a peaceful setting near Skegness and with easy access to the sights and attractions of Lincolnshire and beyond, the Kings Head is a family-run pub and restaurant with high standards, a welcoming vibe and homecooked food alongside a wide range of beers and wines.

It's a five-minute drive from Ingoldmells (although you might opt to walk each day if you're having the full English beforehand) and less than five miles from more seaside days at Lincolnshire's most visited seaside town Skegness.

The Kings Head team used the 2015–16 winter season to fully overhaul the site shower block to high standards, installing a new heating system so that whatever the weather, all days can start off with a piping hot shower. And then a mega big breakfast, and then – perhaps – another stroll into Ingoldmells, a drive into Skegness or a potter along the Lincolnshire coast…?

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

I actually liked you as managers and thought you worked hard. Just too many negatives about the site I'm afraid.

    Disliked:

I am reviewing again in reference to your response on my first review.
First of all I am a Miss not a sir! Secondly I think you have us mixed up with another couple. We only had our car on the site whilst we unloaded. We were never asked by management or the owner to move so unsure why you have put this on here. Also the point I was making was not about having to park in the car park but was highlighting the small pitch sizes.
Secondly with regards to the facilities in the toilets, I don't think towel rails can be classed as clothes warmers, especially when they are off!! A simple hook on the wall would have sufficed as long as it was outside the cubicle so the garments didn't get wet.
Thirdly, with regards to the noise, it carried on from 1am until 6am and woke myself and my son so I don't believe anyone was addressed regarding this matter as you previously stated. Unfortunately due to my sons needs, I was not in a position to leave him in the middle of the night to wander around in the dark to find a number on the toilet that was barely legiable due to fading.
Also I would like to add, as seen in previous reviews, ball games were constantly being played outside our caravan and dogs were more often than not off leads although your policy states otherwise, this were seasonal pitch holders which is most likely why it was allowed.

From the manager...

So you didn't leave one review you left two! Even though you asked for my response to be removed thanks for that!

Site was clean and tidy and you could tell they were putting a lot of time into improving the facilities. Pitches were well maintained and grass was cut. The owners were very friendly and helpful but I think they have their work cut out. The pub and garden was a little tired and could do with a make over.

    Disliked:

Pitches were far too close together to the point that I could see what the person next door was reading when she was sat outside and I was in the caravan. The car had to be left in the car park as there wasn't enough space to park it.
The site is mainly seasonal pitches and this is very apparent as they seem to 'rule' the site. The owners were lovely and helpful but I think the people in the seasonal pitches have the run of the place. On the second night, 3 families from different vans were outside drinking, shouting, clapping, singing etc until 5am! It was a complete lack of respect for the rest of the people staying there.
Toilets although very modern lacked finishing touches such as full length mirror, a place to hang clothes outside the shower cubicle as they would get soaked if hung on the back of the door, squigy mops for the floor; due to the grass being freshly cut, the floor in the cubicles was covered in it so as soon as you stepped out the shower you walked on grass cuttings. A mop would have meant it could have been cleaned after someone used it.
The food in the pub although ok and large portions, took 2 hours to be cooked. We were asked to order quickly as they were closing the kitchen at 7pm. We ordered a burger and chips, scampi and chips and a chilli at 6.50pm and received them at 8.40pm which is too late for my son to be eating.

Everything was lovely and with lovely weather it made everything perfect. The owner even parked his car in a way to shelter us from the breeze. Shower facilities excellent. Food from the on site bar was well priced and larger portions than usual. Nicely kept surroundings with a friendly atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

very friendly staff. Exceptionally good toilet/shower facilities.Nice pub with good choice of beers and food options. Flat grass pitches.

    Disliked:

Some maintenance and repairs needed to outside wall rear of pub and uncovered electrical box on outside wall that feeds the pub. Gents toilet in pub had doors wedged open? maybe to help with the unpleasant odour in the toilets??.
I feel it is a shame that these minor décor issues have not been seen to, they do spoil what was once a very pleasant and possibly large money investment when it was refurbished.

From the manager...

Hi in response to your review the wall was actually knocked down by a customer just before the bank holiday weekend and we couldn't find a bricklayer until after the weekend this is now in progress. the electric cover had blown off in the wind and no one notified us immediately this has since been repaired. with regards to the smell in the toilets we are awaiting Anglian water as it is an external problem with the drains so we apologise for that. in our defence as it was a bank holiday and we were extremely busy and we are solely family owners we will and have rectified the issues that you pointed out as soon as we possibly could. many thanks for your review and we hope you will visit us again.

The site was reasonably quiet. The toilet and shower blocks were new and modern. The price of the pitches were reasonable. The site was clean and well maintained. Close to Ingoldmells.

    Disliked:

The toilets were blocked for a whole day whilst we were there. The showers and toilets could have been cleaned more frequently as they did get pretty gruesome later on in the day (I avoided using at one point). There was a loud after party in the pub on bank holiday Friday which went on until the early hours. We are not party poopers but did find it disruptive.

Didn't like the fact there was very limited parking. We had to leave the car in the pub car park as you cannot park on the touring site. The site is large enough for some hard standing car parking but the space has not been utilised.

The rules stated "no ball games" but the regulars appeared to be allowed to breach this. They also breached the "dogs must be on leads" rule. This worried me when the larger breed dogs ran at children. Parents beware!

From the manager...

hi in response to your review. all of our seasonal patrons have and do adhere to the rules of ball games and dogs on leads this was infact people like yourself stopping for a couple of nights and they were addressed upon our notification and I do believe they stopped. although we can not watch the site 24 hours a day if and when we saw anyone breaching the rules then we did go to the persons responsible immediately. with regards to the shower block being blocked this was again due to an over nighter dropping their waste disposal lid down the drains. as they didn't notify us immediately we were unaware of the problem. the minute we were told they were unblocked I am disappointed that you say the toilet block was in your words pretty gruesome! we have a very good cleaner that cleans them daily and again had you or anyone else notified us at the time we would have called her to come and clean them again. with regards to parking when you book through pitch up it states that all cars are to be put in the car park. this is because as there are children on site we prefer no cars on site for the safety of them. with regards to the music emanating from the pub we have a 1am entertainments license and this was turned off at that time. we are sorry that you found this disruptive and hope it doesn't put you off visiting again xx

    Disliked:

Having to go into pub and wait until people are served before getting service . Eg have to go in pub to get barrier lifted to get car or van out so can't leave early when going home .

From the manager...

At the time you booked with pitch up it does state that once you have off loaded your car is to be parked in the Carpark ie designated area. We fail to see how you can complain that you could not get on and off site when you are clearly seen on camera going off and on site throughout the day on your motorbike that you had as an extra that you did not declare and the time of booking.
The electric did go off at the time of severe thunder storms I'd like to apologise for that but unfortunately we have no control over the national grid. Also at the time of booking you are made fully aware that we are actually a pub restaurant and hotel and are extremely busy more so as it was a bank holiday weekend so couldnt prioritise you

Local attractions

Ingoldmells five minutes drive or 15 minutes' walk from The Kings Head is probably best known for its theme park Fantasy Island, with indoor and outdoor rides and the world’s longest suspended rollercoaster. Shops, arcades and a huge indoor market open seven days a week are recommended stopoffs in town too.

The nearest beach from the pub is a mile away, more sands are at Skegness five miles away, or you could travel a bit further up the coast to other Lincolnshire seaside towns like Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe, and inland for the non-strenuous strolls and cycles of the flat Lincolnshire Wolds.

Plenty of family options as well as the seaside resorts are handy from here if you're around with the kids, such as the open-air museum of The Village Church Farm, telling the tale of rural British life before mass urbanisation, alongside family activities like chicken feeding, fancy dress, bug hunting and storytelling – do drop in to say hi to Bob the Hornsby steam engine too.

Also see nearby Walsingham Abbey, a monastic house and place of pilgrimage until it was destroyed (boo) by bad old Henry 8 in the sixteenth century. The ruins of the medieval priory still spectacularly stand today; take a guided tour of Walsingham to see all the spots of interest as well as the shrines and pilgrimage history of the village.
