The Kings Head: Six-berth static with private hot tub

General

  • Just west of Ingoldmells and five miles from Skegness
  • Pub and restaurant on site with a large choice of beers and wines
  • Family-friendly atmosphere with high-quality amenities

If you're off for the day to Ingoldmells, how about a huge English – or veggie – breakfast first… before a 15-minute stroll into town? And then another stroll back, for dinner and an evening's relaxing in a family-friendly pub and restaurant? If that all sounds pretty tempting, have a stay at friendly and welcoming The Kings Head, just west of Ingoldmells in the small town of Addlethorpe.

In a peaceful setting near Skegness and with easy access to the sights and attractions of Lincolnshire and beyond, the Kings Head is a family-run pub and restaurant with high standards, a welcoming vibe and homecooked food alongside a wide range of beers and wines.

It's a five-minute drive from Ingoldmells from here (although you might opt to walk each day if you're having the full English beforehand) and less than five miles from more seaside days at Lincolnshire's most visited seaside town Skegness.

The site shower block has been overhauled to high standards in recent years, and a heating system installed so that all days can start off with a piping hot shower, whatever the weather. And then a mega big breakfast, and then – perhaps – another stroll into Ingoldmells, a drive into Skegness or a potter along the Lincolnshire coast…?

Please note

The restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Single sex group bookings are permitted, but all guests must be over 25 year old.

A old but ok caravan, brought back memories! But the best part was the hot tub, that was spectacular, definitely after a long day of walking rides and shopping! Quiet and peaceful.

    Disliked:

The double bed mattress was old and we could feel all the springs coming through so didn't get a good night's night's sleep. Maybe changing carpet in the bathroom to lino would be a good idea as we was panicking if we got the carpet wet after showering.
There is no area for children to play ball games outside a little disappointing.
Site is probably more for adults rather than families.

Easy check in and friendly staff, was able to book the caravan at 2.30 in the afternoon and able to check in up to 10pm which is great for a last minute getaway. Everything was as described in the advertisement there was nothing to disappoint, we got what we were expecting and feel we had good value for money.

    Disliked:

Not knowing how to check in/out prior to travelling but this was easy enough by going into the attached pub where the staff were prompt to assist.

Local attractions

Ingoldmells (five minutes' drive or 15 minutes' walk from The Kings Head) is probably best known for its theme park Fantasy Island, with indoor and outdoor rides and the world’s longest suspended rollercoaster. Shops, arcades and a huge indoor market open seven days a week are recommended stopoffs in town too.

The nearest beach from the pub is a mile away, more sands are at Skegness five miles away, or you could travel a bit further up the coast to other Lincolnshire seaside towns like Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe, and inland for the non-strenuous strolls and cycles of the flat Lincolnshire Wolds.

Plenty of family options as well as the seaside resorts are handy from here if you're around with the kids, such as the open-air museum of The Village Church Farm, telling the tale of rural British life before mass urbanisation, alongside family activities like chicken feeding, fancy dress, bug hunting and storytelling – do drop in to say hi to Bob the Hornsby steam engine too.

Also see nearby Walsingham Abbey, a monastic house and place of pilgrimage until it was destroyed (boo) by bad old Henry 8 in the 16th century. The ruins of the medieval priory still spectacularly stand today; take a guided tour of Walsingham to see all the spots of interest as well as the shrines and pilgrimage history of the village.

Must see

  • Holkham Hall (26.5 miles)
  • Sandringham (26.9 miles)
  • Houghton Hall (29.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Gunby Hall (5.1 miles)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (6.8 miles)
