General

  • Rural site for families looking for peace and quiet
  • Animals to meet including giant rabbits, chickens, cats, ponies
  • Eco toilet and shower room

New Farm is a small family-friendly campsite in the rural Herefordshire village of Dilwyn a few miles from the Welsh border, aimed towards families looking for a peaceful countryside stay,

Owners Mark and Alison recently installed a composting eco loo, handmade from Welsh cedar from a small independent company in Machynlleth. There is also a shower room with wash hand basin. Alison and Mark will be happy to help you in any way they can during your stay.

Children can assist feeding the animals on a daily basis if they want.

For food, the New Farm owners recommend the local pub in Dilwyn, which has reasonably priced food most days. It sits in the middle of the Black and White Trail and the Herefordshire Cider Route.

Excellent luxury camping experience in peaceful site on a mini-farm 22/08/2017

Just returned from a perfect luxury camping break at New Farm. It is a beautiful spot. In addition to the two huts, we had the site to ourselves, a large field for the kids to play, our own shower, toilet, fridge and washing up facilities; being from London, we loved the privacy this afforded us.

The weather was quite changeable during our stay but the log burner (and electric heater in the children's hut) meant that this did not detract from our experience. We enjoyed snuggling up with a warm cuppa and some books while the winds bustled around the hut.

Mark and Allie couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Our children had a trally special time and my husband and I were able to fully relax despite it being only a 3 day stay.

Highly recommend a visit to Hampton Court and the Cider barn. We are already thinking about returning next year. Thanks Allie and Mark.

We loved our stay in the shepherds huts. New Farm is a great place and we enjoyed sitting watching the animals and listening to the church bells chime. This was the most relaxing holiday we have been on for some time. The facilities were lovely and clean. We were not sure what to expect from the composting toilet but need not have worried as it was clean and odor free. We had everything we needed close to hand e.g. fridge, water and sink for washing up. The huts had everything we needed and we had plenty of space to store all our things. There are lots of places to visit and explore near by. We enjoyed Hampton Court, Croft Castle, Berrington Hall and a visit to Ludlow Castle. Mark and Ali were very welcoming and friendly.

A very warm and friendly welcome from Mark and Alison, which even included wine on arrival! A really lovely peaceful place, incredibly adorable goats, good private facilities, would definitely stay again. The shepherd hut made a great change from regular camping, the log fire worked a treat. The whole area is very picturesque with a host of beautiful villages in the local area. Hampton Court is just down the road, definitely worth a day trip. We also stopped in at the Green Bean Cafe in Weobley, which we highly recommend. All in all a great break from city life.

We had such a lovely time here - there were tears from the children when it was time to leave! Both shepherds huts were well kitted out with cutlery, crockery and utensils, and were comfortable, and definitely warm enough. We thought we would need the log burner on at night, but were so wrong - we had to sleep with the door open! There is an extension available for the double bed if you are tall.
The shower room and washing up facilities were clean and well supplied, and the compost toilet was clean and always fresh smelling. There was a fridge available to put our milk in, although not right next to the huts - which didn't matter to us as our youngest took great pleasure in fetching and carrying for us!
The customer service was fantastic, Mark and Alison were friendly, attentive and showed great concern for our welfare and safety.
We loved the location, and we would recommend a visit to Hampton Court Castle, and we had a lovely meal in the Olde Salutation pub in nearby Weobley.

    Disliked:

Nothing. There isn't wifi, but why would you need it when you have a DAB radio, birds singing, and children to play with?

What an excellent find! We really loved this place - lovely quiet location, cute farm animals and loads of space for the kids to play. Eco loo was great, as was the shower.
Mark and Allison were great hosts, offering info about local places and events.
Also thank you for the freshly laid chicken egg!

    Disliked:

    Nothing!

The only idea for improvement would be some hot water for washing up, although we managed to get around this by filling up from the sink in shower room.

From the manager...

Thanks Sarah for your lovely comments and for the feedback; the hot water feed will be our next project, our best wishes, Mark and Allie

Received a phone call from Mark on the morning of our departure, "would you like a cold beer or a glass of wine on arrival?"
Need the review go any further!?
Suffice to say the brief stay I had with my 2 teenage boys was an absolute delight. Mark and Allison catered for our every need, nothing was too much trouble. I was slightly unsure as to whether the tranquility would be too much for 2 teenage lads, but a frisby, a menagerie of animals and the need to stand around a fire/barbecue was more than enough!!
    Loved it!

The place can only be described as utterly peaceful, gorgeously pretty and wonderfully free feeling . Can't fault anything , everything was so lovely, I would ( and the kids have also said the same ) re visit here . The huts are completely sweet & stunning, generous facilities and thank goodness for a kettle ! ... the roaming animals ... My 5 year old didn't want to say goodbye to the horses ... Everything here is fantastic and the facilities are brilliant. A warm welcome from Alison on arrival was massively helpful, gratefully informative and tremendously friendly , with the lasting and genuine offer
" if there's anything you need just ask " ...
the place is left to yourselves - to wander , gaze & enjoy . Cannot fault the local pub , The Crown Inn which is a couple of minutes walk away and really really friendly and lovely fab priced food and well maintained beer garden with plenty for the kids to play on. I'm so chuffed I found this place and this gem is for anyone who enjoys peacefulness, pretty things and cute animals !

The warmest of welcomes from Mark and Alison.
We were invited to pitch up in any part of the pretty and extensive field with plenty of cable for the electric hook up. We pitched at the top end of the field and immediately felt right at home.
Mark and Alison were the perfect hosts; welcoming, friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.
Fantastic facilities in a gorgeous setting. Loved the Eco loo, shower room, the fridge and the BBQ!
Between our two families, our four young children ran free in the sunshine and are already asking when they can go back!
We would highly recommend this little gem of a site and are definitely planning to return with another family to share this rare find.
The Crown pub is well worth a look. We spent a delightful afternoon in the beer garden and enjoyed some fine ale in the sunshine whilst the kids explored the playground. We are still reeling from the unbelievably cheap prices!

We will definitely be back to New Farm!

Could perhaps benefit from access to a supply of sawdust for the Eco loo to avoid having to hassle Mark and Alison.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your kind and wonderful feedback....it was a pleasure to meet you all and glad you were able to relax and enjoy the village. We have taken on board your comments about the eco loo and have now provided a much larger container for the sawdust......it's good to see things through other people's eyes......thank you....hope to see you again...☺

For those wishing to attend the Hay Festival, the campsite is a convenient base only a short drive away.

Dilwyn is a small historic village sitting on the Black and White Trail (a tour of old Herefordshire villages, great for a day out). It forms part of the famous Marches and is about 12 miles from the Welsh border.
