New Farm: Covered dining area

General

  • Peaceful rural site on a family-run farm in the village of Dilwyn
  • Animals including rabbits and chickens to meet and feed
  • On the Black and White Trail 25 minutes' drive from Hereford

Giant rabbits, pygmy goats, chickens, sheep, an Indian runner duck – they’re all down here in Dilwyn, living a cheery life on the quiet family-run New Farm 25 minutes’ drive from Hereford.

And to keep them in that cheery state they all need feeding on a daily basis – something friendly owners Alison and Mark are happy to have a little posse of small helpers for (or larger ones, if you can’t resist the thought of getting up close to all the cute animals…). That’s just the closest of the countryside activities, of course – the site’s in a handy spot for Herefordshire walks, River Wye canoe trips, castle visits and outings to the many excellent cider producers along the Herefordshire Cider Route.

Cider sipping’s not a terribly sensible option while out driving, so it’s a fine idea to pick some up to accompany a barbecue back on site; an even finer idea if you source fresh grill supplies from one of the butchers a few minutes away in Weobley. Not in the mood to cook? The local pub (literally – it was the country’s first to be bought by the parish council) is an easy five-minute amble from the farm for decent food and fine brews in a 17th-century coaching inn.

Not everyone around here is involved in producing/selling booze; all sorts of things are created out in this part of the country, including the site’s composting eco toilet, which was crafted from Welsh cedar wood over in Machynlleth. Guests also have access to a shower room with hand basin, and can log on to the internet to keep contact with the wider world.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Really lovely campsite and the owner was very welcoming, the kids loved feeding the animals. There was only two other tents on the site so it was lovely and quiet and the facilities were very clean.
The location was great too as there is so much to visit around that area.

    Everything! Space, peaceful, Animals!
What a fantastic find this site was, we can’t wait to return. Clean, spacious, peaceful! Helpful owners, lovely area
Only 3 families booked in during our stay so plenty of space, no issues with toilets or getting a shower room. They could easily fit several more tents but aren’t greedy and choose to keep it minimal which gives a better experience for campers and keeps the site peaceful for the neighbours, perfect!
Everything clean and tidy, compost toilets take some getting used to but work as intended. Microwave kettle and fridges available to use. Logs coal etc available for small fee. A couple of benches dotted around and a bbq. Washing up area. Plenty of electric hookups around the site and a tap.
Best bit is the animals!! Goats currently with babies, Indian runner ducks, giant rabbits, sheep and a friendly cat! The kids can go up to the animal enclosures as much as they want and feed them grass and the owner lets them go in the pens with him each morning to feed them and even hold the babies. Mark was fantastic with the children so patient and kind and really got them involved. My son named every animal there and spent most of the time by the pens as did the other kids.
The site is secure and safe for children to run free and enjoy themselves and being in a village it’s quiet and relaxing. Once the kids are in bed the only noise are the birds. No dogs allowed which is an added bonus for us and no barking or dog poo or having to worry about dogs around the kids.
Lovely pub 2 minutes walk away with large beer garden and good food menu.
Morrisons about 10 mins drive away and Leominster town just past that
Not much in Weobley But pretty little village
We will be back very soon, my sons favourite campsite by far

We loved everything about this site. It was quiet, peaceful and tranquil. It was well equiped with access to our own shower room with sink, own eco toilet and fridge. There was even a toaster and bbq that we were welcome to use. Mark and Toby were excellent hosts and welcomed us to their farm. Toby showed us round and explained everything amazingly well and Mark had excellent local knowledge. The children loved being able to feed and interact with the animals and handling them with Marks guidance- they made sure to be ready and waiting for 9am to help with this. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

The huts themselves are beautiful, perfectly equipped with lovely added extras to make your stay carefree. The log burner was a lovely touch making it very cosy of an evening when it becomes chilly. Considering the month we went the weather was also perfect,we sat out in the sun and had a barbecue whilst the children where able to play and watch the animals safely.
Mark, the owner couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was perfect,he took the children round to see all the animals and feed them, provided great local knowledge to aid our stay . This is a beautiful part of the country and would highly recommended this to any family or couple wanting a peaceful get away.
Very reasonably priced and well worth a try!

Everything. A hidden little gem. Tucked away in a quaint little village, this cute campsite is the perfect retreat if you want to just get away from it all. The owner, Mark is very accommodating and full of local knowledge. Shower room was lovely and clean. There is a fridge that you can use but also electric hook up. The aminals, which our daughter loved, were an added bonus. The chickens and ducks especially, amused us most evenings. The eco toilet took a bit of getting used to but again, was clean and also added to the experience of this wonderful little site. We literally had the best week.

Local attractions

If a jaunt along the cider route isn’t your thing, perhaps you’ll be more taken with a day out on the Black and White Trail, which makes its way between several pretty and historic villages (with the area’s famed black-and-white houses, hence the name…) including little Dilwyn.

For rather grander properties on a tour through the countryside, make tracks to Hampton Court Castle, Berrington Hall and Croft Castle, all of which are within a 20-minute drive. There’s a fine old Norman castle in Ludlow (half an hour) too, along with lots of excellent food shops; for a book to read while you sort through your finds, head to the bookshop mecca of Hay-on-Wye (25 minutes).

The biggest city around these parts is Hereford, 25 minutes away (and with a bus connection from Dilwyn running a few days a week). Head over here to see the world’s largest surviving medieval map (the Mappa Mundi, displayed at the cathedral), visit the Black and White Museum or take a break from all the history by hiring canoes to paddle down the River Wye.

Must see

  • Ludlow Castle (21.9 kilometers)
  • Stokesay Castle (27.1 kilometers)
  • Eastnor Castle (36.2 kilometers)
