General

  • Small and friendly site 100 yards from the Severn
  • Close to a riverside 15th-century inn
  • A short walk from Tewkesbury via the pub's ferry

Take time out for a spot of fishing on the River Severn, followed by a drink in the 15th-century inn nearby, where the views are as tasty as the food and drink...

The Willows is a small, friendly site in spectacular and hugely handy location: despite being encircled by lush scenery with the river (and separately owned pub) a mere hundred yards away, it’s only a half-hour walk into the lovely historic town of Tewkesbury (or 10 minutes when the pub's ferry is running).

You can pick up your freshwater fishing permit in the pub (as if you needed an excuse for a visit...).

The riverside location was fabulous and there was plenty of room on the site. We were right next to the water and electricity supplies which was very useful. Lovely walk into Tewkesbury and great food at the Boat House. The pub next to the site - Lower Lode Inn - very pleasant.

    Disliked:

The drive down to the site was a bit tight.

Next to the pub with fabulous views. Pub also had loads of outdoor seating and We’re excellent in following coronavirus advise. The electric point didn’t work when we arrived but someone came out immediately to sort it out. Lovely place for a quiet relaxing weekend.

    Disliked:

Toilet block closed. Other campsites have toilets open and given you could use the toilets in the pub it just seemed convenient as opposed to necessary for the toilets on the camp site to be closed.

When we arrived we clearly couldn’t see the tiny little sign above what look like an almost ruin of a shed. We arrived with friends who also missed it.
We then had the delight of the receptionist whom clearly needs to learn some people skills
I tried to say sorry but didn’t see the sign and he wasn’t impressed !! So get a proper sign !!!
Not very friendly site but could be lovely in the right ownership or with the right staff

Quiet till bank holiday families came with footballs.

    Disliked:

First thing. Cannot get two caravans to pass down narrow lane. Only entrance in. Road onto site full of pot holes. Site very dated. Old chairs windbreaks fire pit and general rubbish around the site. Photos on web must have been taken years ago. Hard standing covered with grass and weeds. Fake reviews. One mentions showers nice. When they where shut because of coronavirus. Very pricy especially when toilets and showers closed. No facilities for children. Definitely not for disabled. Big ramp up to elson waste. Pub on site shut Monday Tuesday. Ferry not working. Site holds alot of water. This after one day of rain ☔.

Local attractions

Slotted into a slender strip of land at the meeting point of the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury hasn’t changed much over the centuries: black and white Tudor buildings overhang the narrow streets, and the twelfth century abbey has the highest Norman tower in England. There are town and country museums to explore, historic buildings like the Old Baptist Chapel, plus shops and entertainment aplenty.

The local countryside and riverbanks are great for ramblers and guests can find boat and bike hire, windsurfing and golf courses nearby. Also on your doorstep are the golden villages and verdant hills of the Cotswolds and attractive provincial towns and cities such as Cheltenham and Gloucester.
