  • Green and spacious park in Gloucestershire
  • On-site restaurant famous for its excellent food
  • Seven miles to Sharpness Canal and Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust
Greenery and space are on the menu at The Pepper Pot Caravan Park near Dursley in Gloucestershire, which is kept tiptop by its on-site and friendly wardens, who live in and are to hand for any advice or help needed by Pepper Potters during their stay. Facilities are well-maintained and in a purpose-built shower and loo block; an indoor washing-up area and a coin-operated washing machine are also on site. But the best part of The Pepper Pot? Its on-site bar and bistro, The Pepper Pot pub, with decently priced home-cooked meals using the best of local ingredients from local suppliers, such as salads, burgers and quality matured steaks. (If you think your little mover and shaker won't fancy a steak, they have plenty to pick from on the children's menu.)

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Pitch was level

Disliked: To close to M5 and railway line. Could see M5 from site. No stool in showers. No privacy cubicles . No dog walking on site. Having to put code in to use showers and toilets. Handle was very stiff to turn once you had put code in. The warden told us the gates were locked from 10 pm till 7.30 am. She said it was for security but felt it was unnecessary as you couldn’t get in without code. She was surprised when I asked where we could park if we wanted to stay out later. Could park in pub car park as long as we let them know. Not much help if you decide on a whim to stay out late. I am on holiday and dont want to be going to the hassle of ringing people up to tell them I am going to be late. Felt the caravans stored there could have been screened off as they were a bit of an eyesore. Most of the site was clean and tidy and very well maintained. It was nice having pub attached to site. We had a nice meal in there two for price of one although I feel the prices were fairly high. Had to get out of car to put code in to get in or out

From the manager: There's a reason for the security and cctv as we and other campsites have to put up with unwanted guests. To protect and care for their well being of the guests that are already on site. most sites lock their gates after 10pm and don't allow any car movement after 10 only emergency services. Until 7.am you should read the rules and regulations that are stipulated and do your research. The locks on toilets are to stop joggers walkers and cyclists from using them. And to keep them exclusive for guests only. We take pride in our efforts to please and welcome everyone .

Liked: Clean facilities, flat pitch

Disliked: Having to go and find someone to give code to open gate - no one there and number on gate went straight to voicemail. We indicated (as requested) time of arrival so all a bit frustrating.

From the manager: When this guest phoned me I was on the phone to another guest explained this do don't make out that there was no one as you found me in reception seeing to another guest that was in front of them . And just had to wait your turn as I'm doing this job by myself

Electric grass tent pitch (XL)

Liked: Great little campsite. One of (if not) the CLEANEST campsite we have ever been on! The facilities were immaculate! The on site manager was very friendly and helpful. There was plenty to do within a short drive. The pitch size was great, we loved the added touch of each pitch having its own picnic table. We can not wait to go back again next year!

Disliked: Only downside was it is quite close to the M5 so you can hear all the traffic and there wasn't much for the children to do, there was a little play park however this wasn't on site it was next door in the pub garden. However that won't stop us from going back again!

Local attractions

The Pepper Pot Caravan Park is in a decent spot to use as a base for exploring Gloucestershire and its surrounds, particularly for those who like their wildlife or historic homes. Plenty of other activities and attractions can be found within ten miles. Two golf clubs are within a quick drive, the Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club two and a half miles away and the Cotswold Edge Golf Club within five. Also within a short drive are Berkeley Castle and the Vale of Berkeley (two and a half miles) and the Cattle Country Adventure Park (two miles) for yee-haw adventuring. Wildlife types have the River Severn Estuary and the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust to explore within six and seven miles respectively, with more species to see at Oldown Country Park eight miles away; wildfowl and other critters along the nearby Gloucester to Sharpness Canal, and Dean Forest and the Wye Valley 11 miles from base. More into historic homes, local history or greenery? Take your Pepper Pot pick from the National Trust's Woodchester Mansion and park or Westbury Court Gardens (seven and 11 miles); Chavenage House and the National Arboretum at Westonbirt (both ten miles), or the National Waterways Museum at Gloucester Docks 16 miles away. The Pepper Pot team also recommends a punt at Chepstow Racecourse, 11 miles away; a look at the longest village green in England at Frampton On Severn nine and a half miles away, or a dip at Dursley Pool and Sports Centre within five and a half miles. For day trips, sink into some shopping and sightseeing at Bristol or spa city Bath.
