Greenacres Campsite: Camping pod exterior

General

  • Relaxed family-run site in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest

Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails.

As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake.

Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking.

Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Large pitches. Clean and modern toilet block. Very well kept site with the best quality grass you will find anywhere. A short (20 minute) walk into Coleford.

    Disliked:

A little remote if you choose not to move your motorhome. You need a car to see the Forest of Dean. Shop not always open at allocated times.

Absolutely fantastic site, location perfect for walking into Colefield over the fields then down a steep hill, only 20 mind walk.
Turn left through the site gate and within a few minutes your in the forest, at the moment full of white flowers ( wild garlic)
Showers & toilets very clean. Coffee etc and bacon butties, croissants etc from the reception.
16 amp supply, the field pitches are super large, fire pits available to hire £ 10 per stay, firewood available to buy Also.
    Very friendly staff.
If you come down the M5 - A40 don't turn off to the left for Symons Yat it will take you through a very narrow lane with a sign pist which states " not suitable for wide vehicles, I wish I had know that before hand, continue on the A40 to Monmorth and approach the site from that way
Some hard standings available if not fully booked. We went to Gloucester on the bus, 1. 1/2 hrs but well worth it, catch the bus outside the Angel Hotel No 22 or 23 we used bus passes, also speaking of Angel Hotel, they do superb food, we had Sunday lunch, absolutely fantastic, £ 7.95 for small £9.95 for normal, selection of meats. Also a nice cafe as you enter Coleford walking
    " Scoffs "
We enjoyed our durung during our 1 week stay, will definitely go again.
Oh I forgot to mention there's a narrow gauge railway for the young ones and a ancient creepy forest called " Puzzlewood again more for the children but we walked there from Coleford centre only 3/4 mile.
Follow the instructions on their website, some very narrow lanes which our sat nav took us through.

Had a great weekend, lovely site, nice people, everything you need and very clean.
Plenty of room between each pitch which is always nice especially for the dog. Great walks from the site straight into the forest and a nice walk the other way into Coleford. Second visit here and will definitely be back, thank you

Despite the ‘arctic tinge’ to the wind during our stay, our pod was warm and cosy and the beds were very comfortable indeed. The shower & kitchen facilities were clean & beautifully maintained, the water hot. I personally struggled with nothing to sit on whilst in the shower cubicle, which might be a difficulty for other people with limited mobility? Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay - the setting, proximity to so many lovely places to visit makes it a very comfortable place to camp. Thank you for your hospitality. (A couple of coat hooks in the pod wouldn’t go amiss! 😄)

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away.

Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site.

Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
