General

  • Relaxed family-run campsite in the Forest of Dean and Wye valley
  • Near Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape
  • Space to play, huge grassy pitches and close to a forest

Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford. You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails.

As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, you're in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake.

Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids will be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's plenty of space to for ball games and dog walking.

Barbecues and campfires are allowed: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford. Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland a short walk away and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

Lovely site with immaculate facilities and good dog walk area 16/07/2018

We had a lovely stay at Greenacres this weekend despite the thunderstorm on Friday. This is a small friendly site and was very busy this weekend due to the music festival in town. The pitch was a good size for a large tent and campervan and it was level. The shower and toilet block looks brand new and was immaculately clean. There is a washing up area with washing up bowls available. I didn’t go into the shop but the lady who met us at reception was very friendly and helpful. There were camp fires and wood available to hire, we didn’t get one so not sure of cost but I thought it was a nice touch. The dog walking field was a good size to stretch their legs. I would recommend this site and would love to come back again this summer.

Great clean site, with everything you would expect. Great location for trips around the country side.
And, should you have any Caravan / Motorhome issues, Forest of Dean Caravans are located about 10 Mins away in the small village of Parkend. They have a large stock of items and are very knowledgeable and helpful, as I found out....

Extra information: we have a special needs son who is in a wheel chair and would have no issues in recommending this site for any body with a disability. May need a push on the grassy areas, but manageable.

The owner said that the door into the disabled toilet / shower needs to be widened as the builder fitted the wrong door. But we managed to get in with our wheel chair.

    Disliked:

Similar to other reviews, a few small items.

    Soap Holder in the showers
Possible an extra hanger in the shower area

We know all the facilities are only a year old and these are the last items that may have been missed from the snag list.

Still a great place to stay.

Very nice clean and tidy campsite! Maureen was very helpful and I like the fact that it is so relaxed with letting you have multiple tents on the pitch and allow camp fires ! It was that good we’re going back in August! And too top it off we took our telly and watched England beat Sweden what more could you ask for !

Lovely site, the shower and toilet block very well maintained. Really enjoyed our weekend

    Disliked:

Was a slight confusion of which pitch was ours when we arrived. I think the pitches need to be allocated before arrival therefore the owners can just assign you to a pitch as you arrive.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review - we are glad you like the site.
We do allocate pitches prior to arrival but sometimes have to move people around if people ask for different pitches but we do try and accommodate everyone.
We hope to see you again!

Very friendly and relaxed campsite. Small with just the right ambience for me and the kids. Owners look after the site and the campers well.
Facilities are first class and spotless.
Loved having a camp fire every night, brings out the big kid in everyone.

    Disliked:

Other campers not doing their bit for recycling.

From the manager...

Thanks for your review! We are glad you liked the site and hope you will come back.
We too are disappointed in some people's lack of willingness to recycle (I think you saw my husband rummaging through the bins sorting out the cans, glass and plastic - we call him Stig of the Dump!).
Love the photos too! Fab

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock; archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away.

Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site.

Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
