Picture your next break among green space, woodland walks and cycling trails in the peaceful woodland setting of the famed Forest of Dean, on the edge of the market town of Coleford… You'll get a warm welcome at this relaxed, family-run and family-friendly park, in an area surrounded by ancient castles and abbeys, smashing scenery and miles of waymarked walking and biking trails. As Greenacres Campsite is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, across the road from a woodland and within walking distance of the River Wye, it's in a good spot for fishing, bike rides and long woodland strolls, as well as easy access to attractions such as Clearwell Caves, Puzzlewood, Cannop Ponds and Go Ape at Mallards Pike Lake. Set in a field that stretches across two acres within an 11-acre smallholding, pitches are spacious, level and grassy, and the park is surrounded by huge mature trees that provide good shade and shelter from the elements. Kids should be kept very well occupied at the excellent playground less than five minutes' stroll away, where there's also plenty of space for ball games and dog walking. Guests here can hire firepits (including wood) from the site. Off-ground barbecues are also welcome: most handy if you land yourself a fish or two in the Wye or decide to pick up a few sausages in Coleford… Otherwise, there's a good traditional English pub in Newland, a short walk away, and another in Staunton within a 30-minute woodland ramble. The wider local area has plenty of pubs, restaurants and takeaways (many of which are happy to deliver straight to the site).

Em va agradar Good size pitch. Good access to local park and walks for dogs. Very nice facilities.

No em va agradar Check and clean up of pitches before arrival as found dog poo on pitch.

We are absolutely mortified to hear that you found dog mess on your pitch, and we're so sorry that you had this unpleasant experience. Please be assured that we do regularly check our pitches and take great pride in keeping the campsite clean and well maintained. This is an extremely unusual occurrence for us and certainly not something we would ever expect our guests to encounter. It is disappointing that, despite our clear rules requiring dogs to be kept on leads and owners to clean up after them, the dog owner has not done so on this occasion. I do hope you reported this to reception so that one of the team cleaned it up.
We are however very pleased that you liked the site despite this and look forward to welcoming you back. Thank you.

Em va agradar Excellent site, toilets, showers spotlessly clean, electric and app worked a treat, a lovely onsite shop/reception, amazing breakfast rolls. Friendly and helpful staff. The owners allowed us to come back later on our day of departure, so our tent could be packed away dry after a night and morning of rain, many thanks for that it helped us enormously. All in all a wonderful stay, I would not hesitate to recommend, will definitely be back

Em va agradar Great location, friendly and helpful staff, modern, clean toilets and showers which were heated. Access to town and onwards to FoD via back gate over the fields so avoids busy road.

No em va agradar Recent rain made site muddy. No hard standing available so we were on grass and struggled to get on the ramps due to skidding. Will book hard standing next time.

No em va agradar Not a fan of metered electric, but understandable I guess nowadays.
Hairdryers either free, or provide plug sockets in shower block to use your own (apologies if i missed them, but I couldn't see any)

Outdoorsy types are well catered to around here, with canoeing and paddleboarding at Symonds Yat Rock, archery and clay pigeon shooting in St Briavels, and pony trekking at Bream. If you're into golfing, then you're also in luck: Coleford has two courses, both less than 10 minutes' drive away. Follow the walking trail through the ancient 14-acre forest of Puzzlewood – the location for the filming of Dr Who, Star Wars, Merlin and Atlantis – to see rock formations and twisted trees, or visit Clearwell Caves to learn about the forest's 4,500-year ore and ochre mining heritage, both within a couple of easy miles of the site. Heaps of historic spots are within easy reach of Greenacres Campsite too, including Tintern Abbey's ruins and the castles of Raglan, Goodrich and Chepstow. The Dean Heritage Centre is a short drive away in the valley of Soudley, and comes highly recommended by Greenacres staff.
