Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked We liked the clean and practical facilities, location, price

Disliked We anticipated more space between our camping neighbours. It was really busy and we was expecting it to be less people for a more relaxed stay....However, we still enjoyed our stay and made the most of it. Everyone was really friendly which really added to the experience

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked A lovely, simple campsite with everything we needed. The toilets and showers were clean and well maintained, and the views were absolutely fantastic. We especially loved having cows, donkeys, and sheep as our neighbours!
The location is perfect for exploring the Peak District. We walked to Mam Tor and Castleton directly from the campsite, and it was a fabulous hike with stunning scenery throughout.
The owner was very friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We'd definitely recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a peaceful base with great walking routes and beautiful surroundings.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked We had a fabulous mini break at and couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The location is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning scenery all around. It’s only a 15 minute walk to the local pub or the bus stop, making it easy to visit Buxton, which is definitely worth exploring. There’s also a great walk to Mam Tor right from the campsite, perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors. We were lucky enough to be blessed with beautiful weather, which made the whole experience even more special. We’d happily stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in the Peak District.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Lovely view, plenty of space, toilets kept clean, lots of paper hand-towels, soap etc. Pub in walking distance, friendly owners.

Disliked Windy (of course - not a complaint!), could do with more than just 2 showers but the ones they do have are fine.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The amenities were good and as advertised. The facilities were clean, well maintained and matched the description of the site.

Disliked The overall experience was quite different from what we expected from a site described as “very much peaceful”.
On arrival, there was very little signage or guidance around where to pitch, which made the site feel a little unstructured. Our main issue was the advertised quiet time of 10pm–6am, which didn’t seem to be enforced. On both nights we stayed, campers arrived after 10pm, and on the second night a group arrived around 10pm and were talking and laughing loudly for some time. We eventually had to ask them to keep the noise down around 1:30am, which we didn’t feel should be the responsibility of other campers.
We appreciate that some noise is unavoidable on a campsite, but clearer pitch guidance and better enforcement of the quiet hours would make a big difference, particularly for a site marketed as peaceful.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The views, the beautiful donkeys and the location. All perfect and a gorgeous site. We loved our stay.

Disliked There is a sign asking guests to be quiet from 10pm. A group of 5 males next to us were playing music and talking very late past midnight. I could hear every word said and my phone could even pick up the song being played. Not the owners fault however but maybe it needs to be made clearer the expectations from guests about noise.

Liked We found quite a flat pitch with amazing views. The toilets and other facilities were really clean and quite modern. Chatted to the host a little and she was very friendly. My children loved looking at the donkeys in the neighbouring field. Thanks for a great stay!

Disliked Very breezy because at the top of a hill, but obviously not the fault of the campsite!

Local attractions

Castleton (15 minutes’ drive) village is a very cute local spot. Its show caverns (including Peak Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and Blue John Cavern) have contributed to its fame, but the stone houses and views of Hope Valley and the High Peak are also ravishing. A walk up Mam Tor (15 minutes) is likely to please outdoorsy types. The five-mile route passes through heather moors on Kinder Scout and a reservoir before reaching the 517-metre hilltop in the High Peak. After your climb, you might decide that the Bakewell tarts and puddings of Bakewell (20 minutes) are the next natural course of action. The market town also has access to the Monsal Trail, a cycling route through old railway tunnels. Tuck into your sweet treats on the riverfront, a popular spot with other consumers of the famous tarts. There are some splendid walks around Chatsworth House (half an hour) should you crave more outdoorsy days out. Royal family members live in the house, so interested folks can book a tour to see some of the historic rooms (and the surrounding 105-acre garden and farmyard if they so wish).
