  • Peaceful family-friendly Peak District site next door to a farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Castleton and 20 minutes from Bakewell
  • Seating area with a woodburning stove; direct access to scenic walks
Welcome to the Peak District: pretty hikes, miles of countryside, historic properties and country lanes. Down one of those country lanes is Sweet Knoll Camping, a rather lovely (and very much peaceful) place to stay next door to a pretty Peak District farm. Spectacular views? You bet. This central part of the Peak District is particularly gorgeous, and the pitches have views of sloping green fields. A launch pad for lovely hikes? Indeed. There are a variety of walks guests can take directly from the site. If that’s not satisfying enough already, the local village pub (including a shop) is only a 15-minute walk away and can be added as a pitstop for pints or local grub. The village also has a kids' playground. The family-run site has a Belfast sink where guests can set about washing up their dishes. In the same washing-up area, there’s seating next to a woodburning stove. There are also a couple of toilets and showers on site. Barbecues are permitted at Sweet Knoll Camping should guests fancy grilling their own dinner rather than tracking down food in the local towns or villages, like Bakewell (20 minutes’ drive) and Castleton (15 minutes). The closest shops are a 10-minute drive away, or there’s a farm shop a five-minute drive away.

What customers say

This Peak District campsite has stunning views and a peaceful vibe, with friendly hosts. Toilets and showers are very clean. Great access to walks and a pub nearby. Usually quiet, but some noise from other campers and occasional queues for facilities. More showers coming soon.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked It's a lovely location with clean facilities.

Disliked We were there for a weekend in June and it was rammed. We had to camp cheek by jowl with others, there were queues for the loos, queues for the showers etc. They had just taken way more bookings than the site could handle.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked Beautiful site well maintained in a gorgeous location with views over the fields. Our host could not do enough to make sure everyone was enjoying their time. Well maintained facilities with lovely, warm showers, indoor and outdoor washing up areas. Would highly recommend for a peaceful getaway in the Peak District.

Disliked Only thing I disliked was that it got busier on the weekend, and I had to share the tranquility with everyone else

Liked Everything!!! This camp is gold star rating.
The owner is amazing, she is friendly, helpful and has more interaction with her camp than I have ever seen.
Facilities were clean, extremely high level and very well maintained.
All hand wash, washing up and cleaning products are provided as is toilet paper and hand towels.
There is a chest freezer onsite and I believe a new fridge to be installed.
The views were a British version of the Tuscany hills.
A pub at the end of the Road (opened Thursday to Sunday)
Walks directly from camp.
The list goes on!!!!!

Disliked Nothing about the camp or the owners.
I will say as human beings, if camping please do consider your environment and your fellow campers, camps have noise rules, these are in place to ensure all enjoy their stay.

Liked Perfect and peaceful even with other campers here. There was a group of DofE here but still all the facilities were well maintained and adequate for me 😊. There a local pub a 15 min walk down the lane with an honesty shop and the food was lovely too.

Local attractions

Castleton (15 minutes’ drive) village is a very cute local spot. Its show caverns (including Peak Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and Blue John Cavern) have contributed to its fame, but the stone houses and views of Hope Valley and the High Peak are also ravishing. A walk up Mam Tor (15 minutes) is likely to please outdoorsy types. The five-mile route passes through heather moors on Kinder Scout and a reservoir before reaching the 517-metre hilltop in the High Peak. After your climb, you might decide that the Bakewell tarts and puddings of Bakewell (20 minutes) are the next natural course of action. The market town also has access to the Monsal Trail, a cycling route through old railway tunnels. Tuck into your sweet treats on the riverfront, a popular spot with other consumers of the famous tarts. There are some splendid walks around Chatsworth House (half an hour) should you crave more outdoorsy days out. Royal family members live in the house, so interested folks can book a tour to see some of the historic rooms (and the surrounding 105-acre garden and farmyard if they so wish).
