  • A peaceful farmland site in the Peak District
  • 15-minute drive from the towns of Buxton and Bakewell
  • Less than an hour from Alton Towers theme park

Relaxing among green fields, trekking through the hills of the Peak District and letting all your stress go in a traditional village pub… If that sounds like your dream getaway then Burrs Manor Campsite, a mile from the village of Chelmorton in the Peak District, might just make your dreams a reality.

Burrs Manor Campsite is a top spot for walking and cycling getaways, close to many of the waymarked trails that crisscross the Peak District. The site is three miles from the start of the Monsal Trail, where you can hire bikes or explore the former railway line on foot or horseback, and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the starts of the High Peak Trail and the Tissington Trail.

You can stay active on site with a pre-arranged game of footgolf, or just relax in the peace and quiet of the countryside farmland, taking in the view over the farmhouse towards the peaks.

To unwind in the evenings, head to the traditional village pub in nearby Chelmorton, a 25-minute walk away, to have a bite to eat and knock one back in the beer garden. If you’d prefer to handle all the cooking yourself, barbecues are welcome on site and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell are nearby when you need to stock up on supplies.

Please note

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Facilities/activities including Footgolf are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

If you wish to play footgolf when staying at Burrs Farm, please call prior to arrival on the number provided in the booking confirmation.

Great. But until price drops not really worth it. 19/07/2018

The friendly ness of the owner. She was lovely and couldn’t help enough. The location was fantastic with brilliant views and completely devoid of light pollution. We caught a few shooting stars while gazing at the stars 🤩 which really topped it off.

    Disliked:

The toilets (yes I know it’s listed as wild camping) but no one is a fan of portaloos.
The ground could be levelled a lot better and the whole field could have been cut rather than just 3/4s.

The price. At £20 a pop is considerably more than comparable sites. For this reason alone I wouldn’t visit again as there are far better value. Especially wildcamping.

My son was home from university for the summer & we wanted to share some quality 'father-son' time together. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon to find an empty field, a water pipe (with tap), a table, a bowl with washing up equipment, & two porta-loos. The location was perfect for what we required.

We pitched our tent, opened the cool-box & settled down to outdoor cooking, a few beers & a good natter. The weather was wonderfully hot. The scenery was lovely & the location very peaceful. A perfect place for a father & son to catch up & have some quality time together.

    Disliked:

The location was difficult to find. We had to telephone the proprietor several times to get more accurate instructions. Another group of campers (that came the following day) weren't sure they had arrived at the right location.

One suggestion - post more roadsigns en-route to clearly indicate to drivers / bikers where Burrs Manor Campsite is located.

The field sloped away (gentle slope), so restricted our ability to choose the location in the field we wanted.... but this wasn't too much of a hinderance.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments which I have taken on board.
However, I take comments very seriously and endeavour to improve the facilities if I am able to.
The campsite is ‘wildcamping’ And I feel that I provide the best possible facilities to all the campers, making sure they have a fabulous time at Burrs Manor campsite.
I have only been open a few weeks and my intentions is to get a washing/ toilet area situated on the campsite. In the meantime, I provide ports loos, which are extremely clean. They are cleaned by me three/ fours per day. Rubbish emptied everyday and outside table cleaned and organised everyday whilst campers are on site.
I am always approachable and upon arrival I always say to my guests, if you have any queries or not happy then phone my mobile ( which is situated on the board)

I was a little unsure about arriving at Burrs Manor after the previous review however after just arrived the campsite is absolutely spotless, including washing up facilities (+washing liquid), there is a facility to empty rubbish. The toilets on site although are portaloos are in great working condition and extremely clean. The owner offered us the foot golf which was a fantastic asset to our stay in the beautiful weather of the countryside. We will be back!!

    Disliked:

The only dislike was that we have to go back to our 9-5 jobs in this beautiful weather!

    A water tap.
    Good location.
    Nice view.
    Friendly owner.
Porta loo (until it stopped working)
2 replacement Porta loos (1 got blocked quickly)

    Disliked:

Having to tell my children not to use the Porta loos, because they kept blocking up and instead having to wait to go to village pub a mile away.
Owner turning up once a day to collect money but not checking on loos.
    Overpriced for what it is.
Other campsites charge similar prices but offer proper toilet and shower facilities.
Dogs running around site and depositing their poo where you don't want it.
    No washing-up facilities.
    No rubbish bins.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear your stay was not satisfactory. With regards to your comments about the toilets, we are currently in the process of updating our facilities. As you can see on pitchup.com the site is advertised as wild camping.( so the facilities are basic) As seen on arrival I have made my number available on the welcome board so it is always possible to reach me if you have any problems. I respect all the campers privacy, therefore only attending to site when required. Although I endeavour to keep the site clean, the site is dog friendly. Unfortunately I cannot police all campers and their dogs ( and local walkers and dogs) I have addressed all your comments and hope to see you again in the future
Kindest regards
Annie

Local attractions

There’s lots more to do in the Peak District National Park than follow trails: abseil from the viaduct at Millers Dale, explore the spectacular dams of Derwent Valley or dive below ground at Blue John Cavern – all less than an hour from Burrs Manor.

The nearby towns of Buxton and Bakewell are must-visit spots too. In Buxton, go below the earth’s surface once more at Poole’s Cavern, stand under the stunning Devonshire dome, or stroll through the Pavilion Gardens. In Bakewell, there’s only one thing you absolutely must do: try the local delicacy, a Bakewell pudding.

Have you ever felt like you were born in the wrong century? There are plenty of classic houses in the area that will make you feel right at home: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Tissington Hall are each less than 30 minutes from Burrs Manor, and The Old Manor, White Peak Estate, Little Moreton Hall, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall are all within an hour’s drive.

Don’t worry if the green pastures, hilly landscapes and stately homes are proving too sedate for you – a more high-octane experience awaits you on the rides at Alton Towers theme park, a 50-minute drive from Burrs Manor. For something that falls somewhere in the middle, try a treetop adventure full of zip lines and rope courses at Go Ape Adventure Park, 15 minutes from the site.
