Burrs Manor Wild Camping: Set amongst green fields

General

  • Peaceful wild camping at a farmland site in the Peak District
  • A 15-minute drive from the towns of Buxton and Bakewell
  • Less than an hour from Alton Towers theme park; near the Monsal Trail

Relaxing among green fields, trekking through the hills of the Peak District and settling down of an evening in a traditional village pub… If that sounds like your dream getaway then Burrs Manor Wild Camping, a mile from the village of Chelmorton in the Peak District, should be the very spot for you.

The site is in a top spot for walking and cycling getaways, close to many of the waymarked trails crisscrossing the Peak District. The site is three miles from the start of the Monsal Trail, where you can hire bikes or explore the former railway line on foot or horseback, and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the starts of the High Peak Trail and the Tissington Trail.

You can stay active on site with a game of footgolf (book in advance) or just idle around in the peace and quiet of the countryside farmland, taking in the view over the farmhouse towards the peaks.

To unwind in the evenings, head to the traditional village pub in nearby Chelmorton, a 25-minute walk away, to have a bite to eat and knock one back in the beer garden. If you’d prefer to handle all the cooking yourself, barbecues are welcome on site and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell are nearby when you need to stock up on supplies.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Fishing is not currently available due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Facilities/activities including footgolf are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Minimum spacing of 3 metres between pitches.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Please note, this is a wild camping site and some pitches may be slightly sloped.

Very quiet, open space. We were able to pick wherever we wanted which was great and the views were amazing. Payment was super easy as the owner just popped over and saw us with a card reader! The toilets and showers were really clean and modern and there was a surprisingly good amount of signal. Would absolutely book again.

The scenery was spectacular. We really enjoyed walking to the local pub. We had the whole field to ourselves for one night too.

    Disliked:

The site permits groups. Over the bank holiday weekend the noise was a little more than we would have liked. The curfew was not adhered too with singing and music until the early hours.

Great views. Lots of space. Clean toilets.

    Disliked:

We were in the bottom field as the top was busy with no flat pitches left. But the facilities were at the top of the top field which was a bit of a walk away. There was a toilet for the bottom field which looks new so that was handy but no handwashing facilities or water. I think it's in the process of being done though so that might change later in the season.

Location-Beautiful rolling hills of Derbyshire. Close to Chelmorton Village and the Monsal Trail. We stayed in the second field, which oin a Bank Holiday weekend was quieter. Would be great of they keep one field as a 'quieter field' Despite the 'dislikes', we would definitley stay again.
    Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately, we stayed in the second field, which had a newly built toilet block, which was unfinished, It lacked toilet roll holders, sanitary waste bins . lighting etc. etc. On this occasion, our stay was brief, so we didn not try out the shower block, so cannot comment on that. Would be good to have a second shower block by the second field. We know its a work in progress. .

Local attractions

There’s lots more to do in the Peak District National Park than follow trails: abseil from the viaduct at Millers Dale, explore the spectacular dams of Derwent Valley or dive below ground at Blue John Cavern – all less than an hour from Burrs Manor.

The nearby towns of Buxton and Bakewell are must-visit spots too: in Buxton, go below the earth’s surface once more at Poole’s Cavern, stand under the stunning Devonshire dome, or stroll through the Pavilion Gardens. And in Bakewell? There’s plenty to see and do here too, but the one thing you must try is a Bakewell pudding...

Plenty of old houses are in the area for historic and cultural days too: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Tissington Hall are each less than 30 minutes from Burrs Manor, and The Old Manor, White Peak Estate, Little Moreton Hall, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall are all within an hour’s drive.

Too sedate? A more high-octane experience awaits on the rides at Alton Towers theme park, a 50-minute drive from Burrs Manor. For something that falls somewhere in the middle, try a treetop adventure full of zip lines and rope courses at Go Ape, 15 minutes from the site.
