General

  • Peaceful farmland site in the Peak District, near the Monsal Trail
  • A 15-minute drive from the towns of Buxton and Bakewell
  • Less than an hour from Alton Towers theme park

Relaxing among green fields, trekking through the hills of the Peak District and settling down of an evening in a traditional village pub… If that sounds like your dream getaway then Burrs Manor Campsite, a mile from the village of Chelmorton in the Peak District, should be the very spot for you.

The site is in a top spot for walking and cycling getaways, close to many of the waymarked trails crisscrossing the Peak District. The site is three miles from the start of the Monsal Trail, where you can hire bikes or explore the former railway line on foot or horseback, and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the starts of the High Peak Trail and the Tissington Trail.

You can stay active on site with a game of footgolf (book in advance) or just idle around in the peace and quiet of the countryside farmland, taking in the view over the farmhouse towards the peaks.

To unwind in the evenings, head to the traditional village pub in nearby Chelmorton, a 25-minute walk away, to have a bite to eat and knock one back in the beer garden. If you’d prefer to handle all the cooking yourself, barbecues are welcome on site and the towns of Buxton and Bakewell are nearby when you need to stock up on supplies.

Please note

Facilities/activities including footgolf are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The views from the campsite were great, and it was exactly what we were after as a simple, barebones campsite near to walks and climbing. The portaloos were very clean too. The owner was wonderfulas she was very friendly and hospitable, and I will be staying again if I come back to the area.

Views, location, simplicity. Only a short drive to Buxton and Bakewell which was great, plus nice walk into nearby village. Views were lovely and owner seemed pleasant. Basic camping but that’s just what we wanted. Toilets were clean and there was a sink with running cold water for pots. The site was very popular being August bank holiday, (despite the weather) which meant there were a number of large groups. Something to be aware of if that kind of thing bothers you. Everyone Was relatively curteous apart from one group (and man) whose voice bellowed round the site until 4am on one night! Apart from him we really enjoyed it and would be back.

Good location and a friendly owner. Even the cost wasn’t too bad.

    Disliked:

Two thirds of the site is on a slope.
The portaloos were lovely and clean when we arrived but disgusting later in the evening due to the high number of people using them.
As this site allows large groups of young adults (which previous reviews said the owner was discouraging) it was very noisy late into the night.
If you want a peaceful nights sleep, this is not the site for you!!!!

From the manager...

Thank you for your review on burrs manor campsite. The campsite is very peaceful and I did address the campers concerned. There is a noise policy, which you have to adhere to, otherwise you will be asked to leave.
I can assure you this will not happen again.

Beautiful location, quiet even over weekend. Friendly service. Clean portaloos and sink available.

    Disliked:

Only very minor downside of our trip is that the site is quite high up and exposed so it was quite a windy couple but of nights. Some pitched near the walls but we were to greedy for the view!

Local attractions

There’s lots more to do in the Peak District National Park than follow trails: abseil from the viaduct at Millers Dale, explore the spectacular dams of Derwent Valley or dive below ground at Blue John Cavern – all less than an hour from Burrs Manor.

The nearby towns of Buxton and Bakewell are must-visit spots too: in Buxton, go below the earth’s surface once more at Poole’s Cavern, stand under the stunning Devonshire dome, or stroll through the Pavilion Gardens. And inn Bakewell? There’s plenty to see and do here too, but the one thing you must try is a Bakewell pudding...

Plenty of old houses are in the area for historic and cultural days too: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Tissington Hall are each less than 30 minutes from Burrs Manor, and The Old Manor, White Peak Estate, Little Moreton Hall, Kedleston Hall and Sudbury Hall are all within an hour’s drive.

Too sedate? A more high-octane experience awaits on the rides at Alton Towers theme park, a 50-minute drive from Burrs Manor. For something that falls somewhere in the middle, try a treetop adventure full of zip lines and rope courses at Go Ape, 15 minutes from the site.

Must see

  • Haddon Hall (8.0 miles)
