  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

This large, family-friendly campsite set on a working farm offers stunning Peak District views and direct access to Lathkill Dale walks. Visitors praised the spacious, unassigned pitches, friendly owners, and generally clean facilities, including new shower blocks. On-site food vans and a small shop were popular additions. While some noted the distance to facilities and occasional noise from other campers, the overall experience is highly recommended for its relaxed atmosphere and value.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Everything.

The place is super clean and tidy. The people who stay have a lot of respect. Dog friendly. Amy, Ed and Charlie are so hard working and kind and caring. I feel so safe staying on site. The showers and toilets are excellent.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Really nice campsite with great facilities. Very large and busy, but is still quiet and still feels very spacious and you dont even realise how many people are there until you walk round to the facilities (plenty of toilets and showers for a large site) and picnic areas.
Didn't use them as we already had plans, but a pizza van, a hot food van and a drinks bar van came to the site in the evenings, which I thought was a great idea. Little shop on site too. Would definitely come back. Great location too and easily accessible.

Disliked Nothing at all.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Grass, views, friendly owners, little shop and hire of fire pits.

Disliked A good facilities block but inadequate for the number of people when full. Queues started around 8am and grew.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The campsite owners were very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. Mobile food vans were really nice and had a lovely walk along the river to a hotel with lovely views.
Facilities were nice and clean.

Disliked Vehicles coming on and off the site throughout the night we pitched near the stone track so heard every vehicle.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked What's not to like? the toilets and shower were clean, pity some of the campers couldn't clean after themselves, the owners were easy going and out to please. There was a van selling fresh pizzas, another selling beers and another in the morning cooking breakfast.
A little shop at reception was nice selling locally made ice cream along with other bits and bobs.
Fire pits allowed and plenty of well behaved dogs off lead, in fact the dogs on leads caused the most trouble.
Something for everyone, quiet end for oxygen thieves like me, open camping field if you want space, kids area and a lively field for the active.
The owners try very hard to please everybody, an impossible task.

Disliked Inconsiderate campers, but you get them everywhere.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendliness of the staff. Location - Lathkill Dale walk on the doorstep. Clean shower/toilet block. Can hire fire pits from the shop. Pizza, Bar and Burger van on site Friday/Sat nights.

Disliked Between 07:30 and approx 09:30 there were queues of 6-7 people for the showers (6 showers per block Male and Female). The site is huge and there must have been 250+ campers. Although the shower/toilet blocks were kept clean and looked fairly new, with the amount of people here this weekend (9-10 August), there would be an argument for another shower/toilet block of a similar size. The shop has basic toiletries, sweets and fire pit hire.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
