  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

Large farm campsite with great Peak District views & Lathkill Dale access. Praised for spacious pitches, friendly owners, clean facilities (incl. new showers). Food vans & shop a hit. Some found facilities a walk, with occasional noise, but highly recommended for relaxed vibe & value.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked This is an absolutely wonderful site.
The toilet and shower blocks are spacious, clean and absolutely top notch.
Fantastic views and plenty of choice of pitches. You will almost certainly need wheel wedges to level your caravan though.
Loved being able to use a firepit and the £10 rental was WELL worth the money.
This site is central to lots of different sites that we wanted to visit. An excellent basecamp.
No wifi, but we got excellent phone reception so this wasn't a problem.
I really can't think of anything negative to say. Everyone we spoke to was happy and helpfully.
10/10.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great campsite, very clean toilets and shower block, a few animals to look at, rope swings, catering vans (although the days we booked these done open) little shop which stocks essentials. The young lad running it was very friendly and accommodating.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The amount of space that is available allows groups to get together without being on top of other people and means that noise was not a problem.

Disliked The toilet facilities and showers were decent but the water pressure was an issue at times.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Owners were friendly and polite
Choosing own space and the views were incredible
Cleanliness of facilities were great and kept immaculate
having food trucks on site

Disliked Pitch up states it had a play area which was of the reasons for booking.
However this is a rope swing which you access in certain field area.
Would be better with a full play area for the children.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Fantastic site, lovely and helpful staff, great amenities, especially with the food trucks over the weekend taking the ease of dinner away.

Disliked Only slight dislike was in the mornings when the toilets were being used they stopped flushing both mornings. I assume this was due to heavy usage on a busy bank holiday weekend. They seemed to work just fine again either really early morning or into the afternoon. But between 8am-10am when footfall was high with people getting ready for the day is when the issue occurred.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great location and really well kept, the campsite was spacious even with the amount of people there. The staff were incredibly friendly and could not do enough for you, check in was easy and smooth with no issues to note. Providing the fire pits were also a nice touch and meant the grounds were kept in perfect condition. Up the road from some great pubs and Bakewell which was gorgeous. Overall a great camping spot and would 100% return here!

Disliked The showers did suffer from pressure problems, but nothing that a second break tank and a VSD pump couldn’t fix! Could do with a few more sinks for washing up pots and pans in.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked We loved our stay here and can't wait to come back! A fantastic base for exploring the peaks, although lots of campers there was space for days and the choice to find your own pitch was fab.
Some reviews said the toilets and facilities were not enough but we found them clean and plentiful, we especially enjoyed the onsite food trucks.

Disliked Nothing.

Liked Great campsite with everything you need, plenty of facilities, on site food and drinks vans and brilliant little shop for the things we’d forgotten or run out of.

Most importantly, just a great, chilled out atmosphere!

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
