  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing and the inflatable assault course Wipe Out. But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a mini four-wheel drive course for kids, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Not much

Disliked: Local travellers allowed on site to use the facilities, there feral kids making a racket till late, some pitches close to a busy main road (separated by a small ditch), lack of security at the weekend, only made aware they were on site on the Monday evening when the travellers had gone, apparently the site allow them on! Nothing open during the week at the Water sports centre due to the local schools not breaking up till a week later than the rest of the country. Never again.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Lovely spacious site, was full but not cramped at all as pitches around sides of field so space to play. Short walk to the water activities. Plenty of toilets and showers but water temperature was a bit hit and miss. We asked to be camped with our friends, but two of our party were in a different field. The campsite were able to accommodate us and they were moved closer.

Disliked: Quite a long walk to shower and toilet block if in the furthest field.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Size of pitch, ease of access (no check in required). Facilities were good - couple of issues with toilets as detailed in disliked box.

Disliked: Toilet/shower cubicle I used had a faulty lock and someone tried and opened the door whilst I was inside. Luckily I was only washing my hands! The locks need to be checked regularly plus maybe a method of showing the unit is occupied as sometimes people close the doors after they exit giving a false impression that it is in use. Also, 2 of the units I used smelt of stale urine. This could be because they were unisex.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nice and spacious

Disliked: The one person situated on the row behind me decided to park on the raised section between the 2 rows and pull up extremely close to my vehicle and tent and therefore i had their headlights shining through my tent all night.
