National Water Sports Centre: Our Pitch

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing and turbo paddling.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a climbing wall, a kids' activity club and archery combat. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

We did not stay at your campsite this weekend. This booking was amended in July this year owing to the change in the dates for the BDA Nationals. I have been assured that this booking alteration has taken place but the arrival of this request for feedback and the failure of the online details in my Pitchup account to change has been very disturbing and worrying. I'm now looking for alternatives in case there are no places available when we arrive on the 30th of September. I have tried repeatedly to communicate directly with staff at Holme Pierrepoint but with no success.

EHU pitches were a good size for tent and car. All pitches were level. My pitch was close to the EHU supply. Good TV reception. Lots of opportunities for different walks with the dog around the river, lakes, country park and watersports actvity centre. Excellent sports facility alongside campsite. Generally a quiet site despite its size. Clean toilet facilities, nice shower cubicles. Good for access to Nottingham Town Centre. Supermarkets nearby.

    Disliked:

No free wifi. Kids screaming around the play area.

Got a good sized roomy pitch at a good price and at the far end where it was a bit quieter away from most children and group bookings which was nice, had more mature couples surrounding us. Staff were helpful when I had issues with electric, check in was simple and hassle free with the details and map all on email.

    Disliked:

Maintenance of the bathroom/wash facilities could have been more regular.
On night 2 a random couple pitched up in our neighbours pitch, in front of them blocking them in with their tent and car, obviously not their pitch and our neighbour let it be known to them but they ignored them and illegaly stayed there the night anyway, so security could be better to prevent illegal pitchers ruining it for the rest.

Bar preventing you leaving before 08:00
Effectively you are a prisoner and what happens if you have to leave in emergency?
The booking system is vet poor and does not clearly advertise the nightly charge. Prices increased for the regatta weekend. £31 a night. Complete rip off. That’s basic tent no electric. I would expect a 5 star campsite for that. Instead you get a shitty toilet block with a hot tap to clean your teeth. It’s 2022 what happened to a hot and cold tap.
Canoeing forces me to stay otherwise there is no way I otherwise would.

3 star review was being a tad generous but didn’t want you to feel too bad by giving you a 1.
