General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths/would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, mini golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a newly created footgolf course.

There's also an assault course, country walks and nature zones on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragon boat racing and triathlons.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the shire countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park.

The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a sandpit, outdoor table tennis and netball, play areas on the site and in the main country park, and a nature trail to explore just a short stroll away.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Our booking was for 5 nights Mon 11th - Sat 16th Sep. We arrived late on the Monday having spent two and a half hours sat in a jam on the M1 due to a multi car pile up.Having phoned ahead we were directed to the main reception to book in. Having booked in we were directed to the camp site.We had been allocated to pitch 60 and found ourselves to be alone in a section a good distance from the toilet block. We parked up left the caravan and drove to our daughters home in Nottingham not wishing to put up an awning and get set up in the dark and rain. Returning on Tuesday AM we got set up and had a look around the site which is vast with 100 Caravan pitches, and over 120 Tent pitches plus 10 Pods. Unfortunately there are only 5 men's showers one of which was out of order. The same in the ladies. The other toilet block was locked and does not have showers. The laundry area appeared to be a storage area. Thursday morning we rose early and both went for showers, having stood under the cold flow for a few minutes and tried the other three operational showers I guessed that there was no hot water, I was right! My wife who was also wet and cold went to reception to be greeted with a "Yes we know, the boiler has been playing up for days and we are waiting for a spare part" when asked if they intended to put a sign up to let the camp know the response was "Oh yes we are doing it now" the sign appeared one hour later and stayed on the door for the next three days. We left on Saturday morning with a feeling of relief. The site was relatively quite whilst we were there with the exception of Friday night when a number of campers arrived no doubt to go the the local club. On Thursday my wife tried to lodge a complaint about the hot water with the management, having been given two names and one telephone number she duly called and left a message on the answer phone. Nobody called back and further visits to reception produced no response from any site management. The site has limited facilities to cope with the potentially vast number of campers.
There are insufficient bins (currently one skip on site) and no recycling bins.
The drinking water taps are fine but the drain they flow into is obviously connected to the Elsan drain as the smell from the fresh water drain is awful.
Lovely site but poorly run with unresponsive management.
What more can I say other than never again.

We had a great time. the campsite was ideal for our needs. yes there were one or very tame louder than normal but this seemed to liven up the night and we did not mind it at all, I think you accept this when on a campsite. Facilities were clean and always had hot water, we never queued to wash up or have a shower. my only small gripes were the shop is not very good so don't rely on this for supplies but there is a Morrisons 5 min drive away. The light on our section of the site where the cold tape is was not working and when we arrived we were only given a site map with gate code on and not one for the toilets which is separate to gate and also directions to Morrisons would have been helpful but no damage done as we asked someone.
