General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a footgolf course. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including outdoor table tennis, a volleyball/badminton court, a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

We stayed there for 5 nights during the second week ... 03/05/2019

We stayed there for 5 nights during the second week of the kids half term and they loved it. It was just what we were after with the activities with available for them to do was brilliant at the water sports centre. The play park on the site was really good for them so much so it was a nightmare to try and get them back for dinner! There were plenty of cycle routes and paths along the river which are all flat and ideal for a day out on the bikes. Washing and toilet facilities were okay, could do with being cleaned more than once a day with the volume of people on the site but overall cleanliness was 7/10.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately our trip away took a huge turn for the worse on the last night of our holiday. A large group of young adults turned up on the Sunday and continued to play extremely loud music until the early hours of the morning. I contacted the number of which she basically said that there was nothing which could be done as the one person they have who acts as a warden was not anywhere near the site to act on it. I went to speak to them to ask them to turn the music down of which i received a load of verbal abuse. Again contacted the phone number supplied to us of which nothing was able to be done. The site was meant to be silent by 11pm of which it was pretty much on every night. With 2 young children and trying to get them to sleep before a long trip home the next day was a bad way to end our holiday. More frustratingly the office didn't seem to care and didn't do anything about it.

From the manager...

Thankyou for your review and we are glad you enjoyed the vast activities we have at our amazing location. Our toilet and shower facilities are cleaned twice a day and we have recently added new blocks to site. We do have reactive cleaning aswell on park to deal with any cleaning issues etc. I will monitor this as we are getting very popular so may very well need at weekends to add in a further clean. Sorry that there was a group being louder than the norm. Unfortunately we cant be held accountable for peoples behaviour but we can be for how we deal with it. Sorry that you was subject to this noise nuisance and that we didn't manage to deal with it for you. We now have wardens actively on our site on busy weekends to deal with any incidents of noise. We look forward to seeing you in the future and you seeing the difference

Position near to Nottingham. Dog Friendly and a great run ... 30/04/2019

Position near to Nottingham. Dog Friendly and a great run for the dogs over the road on the banks of the Trent.

    Disliked:

Toilet block could do with more regular cleaning, especially the older block. For the motorhome one of the Elson Toilet emptying points was out of use and we had to go look for another which we found but it was not particularly user friendly.
For anyone with a dog that does not like "bangs" be aware that a Bird Scarer goes off every hour on the half hour through daylight hours. Our dog was not a happy one!

Great location as we were visiting friends in west bridgeford

    Disliked:

We arrived at 7:30 (it states you can arrive between 2-9pm) to find nobody was at reception and the barriers had a pin code to get in. After ringing the telephone number several times, we luckily had another customer who saw our payment confirmation and let us in. Toilets weren’t very clean either. If it wasn’t for the other customer that let us in we could of been stranded outside. Would not recommend.

Our overall stay was excellent with plenty to do during the day for my girls aged 13 and 15. The national water sports centre is a great way to introduce children of any age to water sports, with different activities to have a go at. We stayed at Easter and managed a good few days of warm weather which helps as obviously your outside! We enjoyed the kayaking and paddle boards as well as the lagoon wipe out. The staff were very helpful giving us help when needed. I would say that its an excellent starting point for progression to professional level sports. Its not the kind of camp site that has shops full of the usual tack and junk you find at Skegness. It does have good toilet and shower blocks with pot washing facilities which were clean on our visit. A small shop with essential groceries would be advantageous as we had to travel outside the park a mile or two to find some milk etc as the shop on the site was lacking stock and closed a lot of the time. Still we enjoyed our stay and will visit again in the summer or next year at least!

    Disliked:

Having to travel out to find essentials.
