National Water Sports Centre: Exterior view

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a climbing wall, a kids' activity club and archery combat. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Lovely area to camp in. Good sized pitches. Superb hot water showers. Nice playground, been many times and enjoy it here

    Disliked:

The cleanliness of the toilet block was well below standard. The floors edges were dirty clearly not cleaned, all corners were grubby, cleaner was using a filty mop, mens toilets smelled and showers did not work on mens main block.

Have been here many times but the cleanliness of toilets was disappointing this time.

Really enjoyed our stay. We were on park view field and having the park in close proximity was a god send for the children. The toilets and showers were pretty clean and the site as a whole was clean and tidy.

    Disliked:

Our pitch (4) was under a huge tree so was shaded most of the day. I think the reception should have been open for longer. On our first night there were kids running round screaming until 1am - no security to report this to.

Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the pitch sizes were of a good size. We were on park view which was brilliant for the kids to go off and play on their own on the playground.

    Disliked:

The only let down to this campsite was the cleanliness of the toilet blocks. Cleaners came in and mop the floors but the toilet walls were stained and needed a clean.

Have used the camp site on many occasions, for access to the white water centre. Have used the deluxe pods, standard pods and used our own tents, the site is central to everything we need. With the updated toilet and shower block it is the only place we now use on our trips to HPP.
Quiet, family friendly and close to white water what more do you need!

This was a fabulous break for all four of our sons ages between 10 and 17. Lots to do together and separately-give the inflatable in the Lagoon a go.
We camped and were delighted to find that all the pitches were flat-that’s very unusual!

    Disliked:

    The weather

    Disliked:

We came here camping with my partner and child. The campsite had rules which included no campfires, no anti social behaviour, no ball games, cycling etc around other tents. Any rules ignored would result in being removed from the campsite, However all these rules were ignored by fellow campers, we enquired about pitching my tent next to a family tent but was told we couldn’t because of health and safety although after pitching we noticed other campers had done this. The toilets were unclean and obviously not cleaned regularly due to the smell and stained flooring. There was children smoking and vaping around the park and other children fighting, children swearing and being abusive to others but were not removed from campsite even though this was stated in the rules prior to arrival. I didn’t see a single member of staff or security
