General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a footgolf course. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including outdoor table tennis, a volleyball/badminton court, a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

    Good walks in the area

    Disliked:

Very expensive for what was provided. The showers were to small so you had to get out to get dry and dress. All walkways were exceptionally muddy. The width of the hard standing was only marginally wider than my van. Access to pitches was tight so driving across the grass was common place. Shop closed and reception un manned. Facilities were apparently re furbished in 2018. Well they need to be done again.

    Friendly staff at Watersports Centre

    Disliked:

Site condition was very poor...pot holes...mud...standing water...hardstanding in poor condition. (I understand bad weather has an impact but this was poor upkeep)
No staff on gate even though we were told could check in between 8-9pm so had to go to watersports centre.
    Very poor site map.
Booming music so loud shaking van until 130am, phoned security but there was only one of them on duty at water sports centre and they couldn’t leave....too dark onsite for me to go looking myself.

How close it is to Nottingham centre.

    Disliked:

That reception and the shop was closed. The toilet blocks were freezing cold. And that we had to pay double the price through pitch up because they wouldn't honour the deal they had online. £27 for a pitch for a night out of season when half the facilities are closed seems a tad unreasonable to me.
