National Water Sports Centre: Exterior view

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a climbing wall, a kids' activity club and archery combat. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

Our pitch was spacious. Also liked the proximity to the activities for the kids over at the water sports centre and the space for them to play football or other games on site. Lots of supermarket or takeaway/food options nearby

    Disliked:

Facilities didn’t appear to get cleaned on day 1 (bank holiday Monday), men’s block smelled horrible even after cleaning. Reception/shop closed Tuesday & Thursday and early on other days, so when we had a problem with our hook-up we had to leave a message on an answerphone, didn't get resolved until the next day (so no power for fridge or heater - it was particularly cold at night for the kids!)
No wardens patrolling - some noisy groups late into the night and says no fires, but lots of people had them.

    Spacious pitches

    Disliked:

They didn't clean the toilets in the 3 days we where there. No hot water in 2 full blocks so only 3 hot showers available, which one had no light. Nice place and facilities but I've never smelt anything as bad as the toilets. They have good facilities but didn't clean.

  • Liked:

Site itself is great pods are what you expect and lots of space for kids to play,
Showers were always cold only once was the water luke warm, really disappointing as the site is lovely
Within walking distance to national water sports centre if you enjoy white water tubing and rafting this is for you,
Paddle boarding and kayaking is ok as lake is very small
Kids play area, mini land rovers sky trail all great for little ones but only small so not much to keep them going for a full day

    Disliked:

Toilets and showers need to be kept clean, most toilets ran out of toilet paper
    Water in showers cold
    NWSC offers only limited facilities

The park was good for the children, open spaces for the children to play. Close to shops.

    Disliked:

Toilets were very unclean, showers also unclean and mostly cold. Antisocial behaviour on site. Teenagers hanging around the park assaulting and verbally abusing adults and children. Very loud after 11am still. Onside shop very expensive. Toilet doors sometimes didn't open with code then would lock you in.
