National Water Sports Centre: Exterior view

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a footgolf course. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including outdoor table tennis, a volleyball/badminton court, a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

I know we still have Covid 19 so I understand self check in emails. But sometime during the two days I would have excepted someone to briefly come say ‘welcome’ and ‘is everything ok’. Also the barrier is locked at night which could be a concern in an emergency-especially as we saw no-one so would not have known in that situation what to do.

Excellent location. Easy access to National Water Sports Centre. Good bus service into city centre.

    Disliked:

We arrived as was stated at time of booking at 6 pm. The reception was closed and the barrier down. There was no way of accessing the code for the barrier. Fortunately two children were playing by the gate and opened it for us and told us where we could find the site manager. She said she’d been off duty for three days, we were told to just park anywhere and see her in the morning at 10. We did as advised, still no access code given or any info on wi fi, toilet facilities, water etc The next day we were going into town and on leaving tried the site managers caravan but no answer. At 10.45 I received a call from the manager saying we’d parked in the wrong place to the one allocated(!) but it was ok to stay there. The very large site was almost empty so we were sure it wasn’t really a problem. She then sent me an email with the details of the site access code for barrier , toilets and shower blocks. Fortunately we are self sufficient in our campervan having our own toilet and shower facilities. The chemical toilet disposal was in a disgusting condition as it was leaking into the surrounding area. Very poor service would not recommend this site if it wasn’t for its excellent location

Nice location, quiet site (if you're far enough away from the season pitches!), good pitches, friendly staff in campsite shop

    Disliked:

Amenities shockingly bad for a site this size, 3 showers only (2 working sufficiently)in the new block, none working in the old block, alternative showers offered at the gym 15 minute walk up the road, my first shower was like water torture, 3 seconds cold- 3 seconds hot-off-repeat, wifi there but site staff don't know how you connect to it, elsan point leaking out at ground level all around your feet, glad it was empty when we stayed, god help you if it were busy!
