National Water Sports Centre: Exterior view

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a climbing wall, a kids' activity club and archery combat. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Not many on site so was no problem but reckon number of facilities would become an issue if site is at capacity

From the manager...

Thankyou for your review, almost all our pitches are 10x10 giving plenty of space per pitch, we are glad you felt like there was plenty of space available. New for 2023 summer season we will see yet another new facilities block with not just wc's but several unisex wet rooms, pot washing area and a fully accessible shower room. Thankyou for your custom.

Great level pitches, clean but dated and not enough facilities.03/05/2023

Local and great for the watersports centre. Pitches looked well maintained.

    Disliked:

Toilet block looking a bit dated and not big enough for the size of the site. Dish washing facilities were very poor one sink didn't have any hot water and the tap next to it had a hole in the tap so water poured out of the side. I didnt like that there was no one on reception, if you want to speak to anyone you have to go over to the watersports centre.

From the manager...

Thankyou for your review of our site. In winter months we only operate a very small amount of hard standing pitches and close off some of our toilet blocks. When its cold that pesky frost sets in and can play havoc with water facilities and it did blow some of our taps, these have been added to our system and all being replaced. 2023 summer season news! 2023 will see yet another brand new facilities block added to the site as it grows. This will have a host of wet rooms and pot washing facilities as well as accessible facilities. During winter obviously the demand on site reduces down so we do close some of our receptions. All customers receive contact numbers for them, or if you choose to go in person the main centre reception is just a short stroll away or 2 min in the car. Thankyou for your custom and choosing to stay with us.

The site was peaceful and a very short walk to Holme Pierrepont reservoir. It was a lovely break to catch up with exercise, walking, running and cycling.

    Disliked:

Bars, restaurants, entertainment was a drive away. We prefer those facilities in walking distance too.

From the manager...

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay here with us! In the out of season months the site really is a quiet location set in beautiful countryside that just a short distance from the city. We are working on a map of restaurants and bars in the local area that are all in walking distance or deliver to site. Thankyou for your review, they help us deliver on peoples needs and wants. See you again soon.

    Disliked:

Gravel area too narrow so had to step out onto muddy grass.
Toilet facilities - coded brick block closed
Wood clad toilet block open - only three toilets, one locked off, one with broken cistern flush and the one for disabled the toilet seat wasn’t on properly.
Site was busy so facilities to suitable
Reported at the reception/shop to a vet disinterested member of staff. Asked about the locked toilet block and was told the boiler was broken
Children running round unsupervised and playing football
Looked like there were people there that lived there not on holiday.
    Music/noise until very late
Bus outside the site only ran on Sundays & bank holidays and the bus in the village is a bit far to walk to for anyone with walking issues. We used Uber taxis
