General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a footgolf course. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including outdoor table tennis, a volleyball/badminton court, a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

    Disliked:

Specific arrival and departure times - though not sure they were being enforced. Gates locked at 8pm which might limit some people wanting to be out for dinner etc. after that time (not sure if they actually were locked).

Nice site, easy to check in whilst reception closed. Clean toilets and showers.

Some of the COVID 19 signage on water stations is confusing. Wasn't expecting washing up facilities to be off limits.

The layout of the pitches- you can pitch how you like as long as you’re within your allocated pitch.
Clean & tidy. Plenty of toilets/showers.
    Good park- was cleaned regularly.
Checking in was online- faster & easier!

    Disliked:

The activities in the water centre weren’t open- we weren’t aware of this when booking via pitch up so children were disappointed. Would of been nice to know. Plus the price is expensive - if the watersports/activities were open it warrants paying the extra but doesnt when they were all closed.
    Pot washing facilities weren’t open.
