National Water Sports Centre: Our Pitch

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing and turbo paddling.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a climbing wall, a kids' activity club and archery combat. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

This was our second time, we stayed in the same spot near enough which we liked. There’s plenty for children to do there’s a park and a volleyball net which was used lots. Two lots of shower blocks and plenty of washing up sinks. We used the water sports centre which was great fun. Little shop on site if you forget something or plenty of shops within a short drive including an Aldi,

It was quiet and not very busy. So we could relax quite nicely.

    Disliked:

The shop didn't open until 0930, the toilet walls were mould covered and the activities were shorter than what we paid for. Also we didn't see a member of staff anywhere other than in the shop from 0930 till 1730.

Location to nwsc and childrens play area good size

    Disliked:

Staff, rude and didn’t want to be there, security, closes the park and then you don’t see or hear from them again all night leaving customers to police the park from children. The noise level is ridiculous, cars coming and going throughout the night. Barrier never shuts at time advised, people partying and arguing as well as some singing, again if site was enforcing noise levels this wouldn’t be an issue. Facilities are cleaned and well maintained and great location for city centre. Very very mixed bag.
