  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids on site
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham, are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding; and open-top canoeing. This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this, and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots are on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail, a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

What customers say

This campsite offers a great location near Nottingham and the National Water Sports Centre. Guests find spacious, flat pitches and helpful staff. However, frequent concerns are raised about the cleanliness and dated state of toilet and shower facilities, with some out of order. Noise and a lack of site supervision are also recurring issues.

Liked Spacious pitches, nice setting, we were behind the trees which was nice. Staff friendly and accommodating. Nice park and felt safe for the kids to bike round the site.

Disliked Toilets aren’t the best, mainly because the sites big so it’s hard to keep on top of it but wouldn’t put me off staying again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Proximity to water sports centre

Disliked Dirty and broken showers, sinks, toilets
Booked as a single adult, got assigned the pitch closest to the children's play area
Does the shop ever open? Campsite shop to be useful would be open first thing in the morning (for fresh milk and maybe fresh baking?).
Friends with high vehicles had issues with the barrier being closed early and opened late- watersports centre users often have vans with roof racks and the barrier policy is bad for them.
A lot of noise late into the evening, clearly no staff on patrol.
Email said WiFi didn't need a password; that network was not visible!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The flatness if the site, the size of the pitch and location to water sports.

Disliked The amenity block was tired, poorly maintained - not all taps worked, toilet seats loose or off, only surface clean. The toilets were dirty when we arrived on Saturday lunchtime and no evidence of them being checked before cleaning on Sunday.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Large site with plenty of spaces

Disliked No staff on site. Had to phone and wait 5-10min) for someone to come and open height barrier at 18:30 and 9:30! On a weekend in school summer holidays. Not a cheap site- pay some staff

From the manager: Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the size of the site and the availability of space.

We're sorry for the inconvenience you experienced with the height barrier during your stay. We understand that having to wait for assistance can be frustrating, especially during busy periods. The height barrier is kept down to help prevent unauthorised access to the site, which we believe helps provide a safer and more secure environment for our paying guests.

That said, we appreciate your comments regarding access and response times, and we'll review how we can make this process as smooth as possible for our guests while maintaining site security.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back in the future.
Kind Regards

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Spending time with friends and being outside, what camping is all about.

My friend had a great experience over the phone to get us placed together.

Pot wash area and toilets were decent and drinking water easy to spot and close to camp

Disliked The staff were not at all welcoming at reception, felt like we were bothering them. No check required which seems odd, how do they manage numbers, know who's there or not, and for all safety reasons as well as business reasons.

The pitches were not easy to read, no clear signs on where numbers are and given reception were incredibly unhelpful it took a while to find our pitch.

From the manager: Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the best parts of camping — spending time outdoors with friends — and that you found the pot wash area, toilets, and drinking water facilities convenient during your stay. We're also glad your friend had a positive experience arranging for your pitches to be located together.

We're sorry to hear that your arrival experience did not feel as welcoming as it should have. Providing friendly and helpful service is very important to us, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Your comments regarding the check-in process and pitch signage have also been noted. We understand how important it is for guests to feel confident about where they need to go on arrival, and we'll review how we can make this process clearer and easier.

Thank you again for your honest feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a smoother and more enjoyable experience next time.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Big site with loads of space. Great camping atmosphere. Loads of toilets, never had to wait for one. Play area a bonus.

Disliked We were put on a pitch within metres of a gap in the hedge to the road even though we had put on the booking we had two small children with us. We asked to move pitches but the lady on Reception had no interest in even seeing if it would be possible. Toilets a bit dated.
Play area could do with a litter pick.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We're so pleased to hear you enjoyed the spacious site, the great camping atmosphere, and the play area. It's also wonderful to know that the number of toilet facilities meant you never had to wait.

We're sorry to hear that your pitch location wasn't what you had hoped for, particularly after letting us know you were travelling with two young children. Liked Grounds well kept
Nice little play area
Tiny shop area in reception

Disliked Toilet/shower facilities were basic but did the job, shower toilet sinks and mirror

Feel like adding some extra cleaning slots for toilets/showers was needed
Which would have made this a great cheap site

Liked Overall, we had a good stay. The campsite is in a lovely, peaceful location and it’s a great place to relax. We really appreciated how quiet and calm it was.

Disliked The only downside was the bathrooms. Unfortunately, they were not as clean or well maintained as we expected, and they could definitely do with more regular cleaning. Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay.
