  • Clifftop site a three-minute walk to the pub and 10 mins to the beach
  • 10 minutes’ drive to Tenby for its castle, harbour and boat trips
  • 10 minutes from Heatherton and 30 from Oakwood
Penally Court Farm… a clifftop cracker. Sandy beaches, castles, coastal walks with spectacular views, colourful harbour towns – Pembrokeshire needs little introduction. But this little bit of it, in Penally just above Tenby, deserves more than simply introducing: ideally via fanfares, fireworks, a parade… But none of the above is needed on this peaceful family-run site. In lush green fields on the cliffs overlooking Tenby, it concentrates on simple, well-maintained facilities that don’t get in between you and the surrounds. You can park up where you stay, cook up alfresco feasts on barbecues, or take a three-minute stroll to a pub with grub in Penally. The village also has a shop for stocking up on basics; bigger stores and supermarkets are under 10 minutes' drive away in Tenby. Not that you’d only visit Tenby for baby wipes and beef burgers – it’s a handsome harbour town with pastel-hued houses, a castle, a fort (on an island) and lots of spots for eats and treats. And a cluster of beaches. The 20-minute walk into town is a terrific way to introduce yourselves to the area, or you could just run into the sea (five minutes’ walk from the site).

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: The hilly views and rural feel to the location.

Disliked: 5 mins walk to the beach is severely inaccurate. As a couple in our 30s of average fitness, it took us 20 minutes. About an hours walk into Tenby.

Two options for toilets - one block has two units that are a toilet and a shower together that are unisex. These were really often fully occupied despite the site not being that occupied. The other option are gendered toilets that are extremely old and open to the elements (door constantly open, lights on all nights for bugs etc). I think maybe three cubicles and two showers.

Giant dog poo in the middle of our pitch in arrival that seemed to have been completely missed.

Very unlevel, we used leveling blocks at the max height and were still slightly uneven.

No facilities.

WiFi required paid for token which I felt was misleading.

Brilliant location, 2-minute walk to a lovely pub with a view of the sea.
Hourly bus to Tenby which only takes 10 minutes.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Clean site with a stunning 30 min walk along Tenby South beach in to Tenby. Penally village is beautiful too with two friendly pubs.

Disliked: The pitches were on a bit of a slope so levelling blocks had to be used. The main road running along the edge of the site was very noisy in the evenings and early mornings from fast moving traffic.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: The friendliness and cleanliness of the facilities. Really well located too.

Disliked: Only issue is the noise from the road even though the hedge screening is good. Can’t be helped of course.

Electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked: Beautiful clean site, well kept. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Road noise. Sloping pitch, paid £12 for awning and didn’t bother to put up.
Also website says five minutes stroll to beach, it definitely isn’t.

Local attractions

Tenby is a port of call for people wanting more than a paddle on the sea: boat trips will take you round the cliffs or out to spot the seals (pick a sunset cruise for marriage proposals, or just to be romantic) and to visit Caldey Island, a rocky nugget of peace, nature and history offshore where monks have been living since the sixth century (not the same ones, of course). To hit the beach, popular Saundersfoot and Pendine are 15 and 30 minutes' drive away, while surfers head for the big waves at Broad Haven and Newgale (40 and 50 minutes). The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 186 miles long, but don’t feel you have to do it in a day; marked trails along the cliffs give you cracking views and plenty of opps for nature spotting everywhere you go. (A popular short stretch is the eight-miler from Tenby to the castle at Manorbier – and the pub.) Also in the area, Heatherton World of Activities (10 minutes) gets you zipping through the trees, climbing ropes and driving go-karts; Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) has rides to thrill and spill your drinks over, and at Folly Farm (20 minutes), you can combine a traditional fairground jolly with meeting farm animals and exotic beasts.
