Penally Court Farm: Site

General

  • Clifftop site a three-minute walk to the pub and 10 mins to the beach
  • 10 minutes’ drive to Tenby for its castle, harbour and boat trips
  • 10 minutes from Heatherton and 30 from Oakwood

Penally Court Farm… a clifftop cracker. Sandy beaches, castles, coastal walks with spectacular views, colourful harbour towns – Pembrokeshire needs little introduction. But this little bit of it, in Penally just above Tenby, deserves more than simply introducing: ideally via fanfares, fireworks, a parade…

But none of the above is needed on this peaceful family-run site. In lush green fields on the cliffs overlooking Tenby, it concentrates on simple, well-maintained facilities that don’t get in between you and the surrounds. You can park up where you stay, cook up alfresco feasts on barbecues, or take a three-minute stroll to a pub with grub in Penally. The village also has a shop for stocking up on basics; bigger stores and supermarkets are under 10 minutes' drive away in Tenby.

Not that you’d only visit Tenby for baby wipes and beef burgers – it’s a handsome harbour town with pastel-hued houses, a castle, a fort (on an island) and lots of spots for eats and treats. And a cluster of beaches. The 20-minute walk into town is a terrific way to introduce yourselves to the area, or you could just run into the sea (five minutes’ walk from the site).

Please note

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Your unit's berth size must not exceed your party's occupancy.

    What a lovely site.
Met by friendly and helpful reception staff, who took us to the pitches. They adopt a common sense policy to how you position your vehicle, which is great considering the strict rules of some sites.
There were plenty of small toilet/shower buildings dotted around the site, we never had to queue, they were clean, well maintained with hot water.
The site is an ideal location for walkers and runners, being only 5 minutes walk away from the coastal footpaths with their fab views.
We were concerned about the traffic nose as it was close to the road, however it soon quietened down by early evening. There is an excellent pub, 2 minutes walk away, which serves good portioned meals, we hadn't booked and they managed to squeese us in.

Great location for a walk into Tenby without the hustle and bustle of finding somewhere to park.

    Facilities were clean.

    Disliked:

Road noise. Didn't google map it before we arrived so wasn't sure of the exact location. Absolutely nothing can be done about it and it wouldn't stop us staying again. Just be aware the road is a bit of a race track in the evening.

Nice walks , public footpaths ideal for dog walking, also easy walk into Tenby . We walked main road along the pavements then through kilin park..takes around 45 minutes probably would be a nice bike ride too.
Shower/toilet/sink unit was great, much better than all in separate buildings and very clean.

    Disliked:

When you come into the campsite it's a mass of caravans and looked very close together BUT we were in the campervan field which was spacious and loads of electric hook ups.
Feild was unlevel but it is a field and solved by chocks.

The view, the clean facilities, the staff, the flat pitches, the size of the pitches. What more could you need.

    Disliked:

I read reviews on the road being noisy and it is but it did not bother us at all, what you need to watch out for is the noise of the cows in the field across that road !! Kept us up most nights but obviously nothing the campsite can do about that.

The site was pristine. The shower and toilet facilities were plentiful and really well kept. Love the fact that the train station is less than 10 minutes walk from the site. We set our van up for the week and left it on site; using the trains to get into Tenby and Pembroke. Definitely be returning 👍

The location is great. You can walk to Tenby along the coast path, it’s a nice easy flat walk with the last part walking along the beach to South beach.
You can also catch the train from Penally station to Tenby.
Great walks in the area. A good local pub in the village within walking distance from the site served food from 17.00.
    The facilities were clean.
The grounds were kept well maintained.

    Disliked:

On arrival we faced rows of seasonal caravans, most appeared unoccupied. This did not appeal to us one bit as we like to see life around us and fun a atmosphere. The warden offered us to go to the tent field which is more open and had other campers however we had a nightmare trying to level up our motorhome in order for the fridge to work, after 3 pitch moves we settled, still uneven but thankfully the fridge worked.
We stayed 4 nights, one morning the shower was cold.

Local attractions

Tenby is a port of call for people wanting more than a paddle on the sea: boat trips will take you round the cliffs or out to spot the seals (pick a sunset cruise for marriage proposals, or just to be romantic) and to visit Caldey Island, a rocky nugget of peace, nature and history offshore where monks have been living since the sixth century (not the same ones, of course).

To hit the beach, popular Saundersfoot and Pendine are 15 and 30 minutes' drive away, while surfers head for the big waves at Broad Haven and Newgale (40 and 50 minutes). The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 186 miles long, but don’t feel you have to do it in a day; marked trails along the cliffs give you cracking views and plenty of opps for nature spotting everywhere you go. (A popular short stretch is the eight-miler from Tenby to the castle at Manorbier – and the pub.)

Also in the area, Heatherton World of Activities (10 minutes) gets you zipping through the trees, climbing ropes and driving go-karts; Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) has rides to thrill and spill your drinks over, and at Folly Farm (20 minutes), you can combine a traditional fairground jolly with meeting farm animals and exotic beasts.

Must see

  • Pembroke Castle (13.4 kilometers)

  • Pembrey Country Park (28.9 kilometers)
