Penally Court Farm: Site (photo added by manager on 08/10/2022)

General

  • Clifftop site a three-minute walk to the pub and 10 mins to the beach
  • 10 minutes’ drive to Tenby for its castle, harbour and boat trips
  • 10 minutes from Heatherton and 30 from Oakwood

Penally Court Farm… a clifftop cracker. Sandy beaches, castles, coastal walks with spectacular views, colourful harbour towns – Pembrokeshire needs little introduction. But this little bit of it, in Penally just above Tenby, deserves more than simply introducing: ideally via fanfares, fireworks, a parade…

But none of the above is needed on this peaceful family-run site. In lush green fields on the cliffs overlooking Tenby, it concentrates on simple, well-maintained facilities that don’t get in between you and the surrounds. You can park up where you stay, cook up alfresco feasts on barbecues, or take a three-minute stroll to a pub with grub in Penally. The village also has a shop for stocking up on basics; bigger stores and supermarkets are under 10 minutes' drive away in Tenby.

Not that you’d only visit Tenby for baby wipes and beef burgers – it’s a handsome harbour town with pastel-hued houses, a castle, a fort (on an island) and lots of spots for eats and treats. And a cluster of beaches. The 20-minute walk into town is a terrific way to introduce yourselves to the area, or you could just run into the sea (five minutes’ walk from the site).

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Your unit's berth size must not exceed your party's occupancy.

Was due to go 20/10/23 for the weekend but with storm Babet and the location of this site, we asked, not for a refund but to transfer our stay to another date. We fully understood and respected the no refunds policy, but as the whole selling point of this area is the view, we had hoped that with a weather warning in place, we might be able to change the dates of our stay. The reply to our polite email was abrupt and rude: I quote: "Hi Claire I am unable to change your dates to 2024 Regards Sue." not any understanding, any apology -, even if she had said, we cannot change dates and given a reason such as "we have not done this for any other guests and it would be unfair". Clearly she could just not be bothered and her only concern was that fact that this way she is getting money for nothing. Suffice to say that when we DO go to visit this area - we will NOT be staying here!

Good location, about 1.5 miles to Tenby along the beautiful beach. Friendly check in guy who showed me to my pitch. Great views.

    Disliked:

Toilets and showers could do with a bit of updating. Was backed up onto a hedge beside a road and railway. Bit of noise from that but not enough to spoil my stay.

Good area, although a good 30/40 minute walk into Tenby it was a decent walk. Size of pitch was good. Water tap at pitch. Was relatively quiet when on the site, so pretty peaceful. People say about road noise but can’t say we heard any once in campervan. Within walking distance and only about 5 mins was the Cross Inn in Penally. We ate in here one night and had a few drinks. Very nice little pub, friendly and welcoming. Seating outside also. Food was delicious and good portion size as well as reasonably priced.

    Disliked:

Ladies Toilet block at top of site was old and rundown, showers in there weren’t the cleanest. Push button which you constantly had to press to keep water running. Water was also very hot then very cold. There was another portacabin style unisex toilets and showers. In this the shower and toilet were in the same cubicle and although spacious these weren’t very clean either, run down, mirrors all chipping, hooks broken, toilet locks didn’t work great and very rusty, doors didn’t shut properly so quite hard to lock. The steps upto this block were wooden and quite slippy when wet. Approaching this block at night was very dark, there was a very small solar sensored light as you approached but not adequate enough. The dishwashing area was at the side of this cabin, not undercover, water wasn’t hot and it wasn’t lit so no way of doing dishes there once dark. Very dark site at night which sometimes isn’t too bad for an amazing night sky, so take a good torch. No views to sea

Super friendly and helpful man who showed us to our pitch.
Large pitch with EHU and own bin.
Bring chocks as on a slope.
10min walk to the lovely beach.
Easy 30min flat walk in to Tenby and other walks on your doorstep.
5mins from Cross Inn for food and drinks.

    Disliked:

As other reviews have mentioned, we were pitched right next to a hedge backing on to a very busy and loud main road which did make sleep very difficult. Fast cars whizzing past until about 11pm. Shame as everything else was great. Sadly due to this we wouldn’t return.

Local attractions

Tenby is a port of call for people wanting more than a paddle on the sea: boat trips will take you round the cliffs or out to spot the seals (pick a sunset cruise for marriage proposals, or just to be romantic) and to visit Caldey Island, a rocky nugget of peace, nature and history offshore where monks have been living since the sixth century (not the same ones, of course).

To hit the beach, popular Saundersfoot and Pendine are 15 and 30 minutes' drive away, while surfers head for the big waves at Broad Haven and Newgale (40 and 50 minutes). The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 186 miles long, but don’t feel you have to do it in a day; marked trails along the cliffs give you cracking views and plenty of opps for nature spotting everywhere you go. (A popular short stretch is the eight-miler from Tenby to the castle at Manorbier – and the pub.)

Also in the area, Heatherton World of Activities (10 minutes) gets you zipping through the trees, climbing ropes and driving go-karts; Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) has rides to thrill and spill your drinks over, and at Folly Farm (20 minutes), you can combine a traditional fairground jolly with meeting farm animals and exotic beasts.
